@EasterlyIrk what about +-/?

yah, i forgot

and what about =

Not an op?

:= is assignment and = is equality check

oh cool

4:01 PM
@Downgoat Then you must contribute something to the organization. Then I'll put you on a trial period where you have admin access to the repos that are like the ones you contributed to and read access to all other repos.

brb pulling your website and filling it with happy faces

should variable declaration be implicit (Python) or explicit (e.g. C, JS)?

ELI18?

@EasterlyIrk ?

oh like x=1 vs int x=1?

4:03 PM
But I don't know how to manage access.

@EasterlyIrk yeah

@Downgoat thought about ELI5, but decided 18 was a better choice.

@EasterlyIrk It's just you. imgur.com is up.

@zyabin101 There should be a invite button, and the settings for each repo have access rights.

@EasterlyIrk make sure your DNS is 8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8 (something like that)

4:05 PM

@Downgoat An IPv4 only has four digits delimited with dots, from 0 to 255.

@zyabin101 I know, I just didn't feel like couting

@Downgoat pls halp chatgoat is abusive

@zyabin101 Four digits, you say?

@EasterlyIrk treat chatgoat as you want to be treated
otherwise he gets bad language in his lexicon

very good reason why to.

@zyabin101 An IPv4 is nothing but a 32-bit integer. There are several ways to display it. Four digits in decimal notation happens to be quite readable, but it isn't the only one.

Comepletely off-topic remark: what is "largest known term"/"number of known terms" supposed to mean here? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repunit

@Dennis can you chat ban Chatgoat?
He came in the wrong room.

How did that happen?
Did he follow you?
If he did, that's kinda creepy...

@Mego I am no longer in the election. (withdrew today because I didn't really see the point)

I would vote for you, I did on Mego's poll.

Eh.

@CoolestVeto can you see if imgur is down for you?

I don't really think I'd be a good mod, to be honest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not around as much as the other candidates.

It is for me.

I also connect to the British servers.
So I can't really give you good advice here. :P

Anyone want to come into Beep Boop Maggot and help me teach chatgoat how to be nice (by being very nice to him). He has no sense of context so just go with what he says

Is there any open source Markov Chain implementation in JavaScript?

@Downgoat I'm not sure if that's going to be a good idea.

@EasterlyIrk that bug happened after some update to have it modifiable. It doesn't work and I've tried to fix it :/

@zyabin101 ?

6:13 PM
@quartata A Markov chain implementation in JavaScript. It must be open source.
Is there any that I can use?

@zyabin101 there's one in node

@zyabin101 A Markov chain is just a random walk.
Do you mean a specific Markov chain?

@Downgoat I need a browser JavaScript one.

compile it?

I hate the tmLanguage spec. I really don't understand why it did become so ubiquitous.

@mınxomaτ Why is it terrible? (Note: I don't know what it is)

what operators should my new language have? I have added ^ (power) * - / + < > <=` >= = != :=, can anyone think of anything else I might need?

6:53 PM
@Dennis i dont get it

chat goat is somewhat fixed, he is nice just don't be rude to him

@Optimizer Should I draw you a picture?

yes

@Zgarb It is a really noisy format for parsing code, and there's no easy way to create it apart from trial & error. A better choice would be CJSSHS (a RegEx state machine parser).

@Downgoat # to make a 2d array. not exactly an operator but very useful. It does kind of look like a grid

6:55 PM
@Downgoat maybe % ?

@epicTCK that could be cool, I'll see if I can implement that

@Downgoat Bitwise assign. |= etc.

@jrich oh, yes! also the binary operators....

really? awesome! you could win at all the bot-save-the-princess type things

6:57 PM
@Downgoat also just plain !

any idea on what character(s) should be xor? I'm using ^ for power.

@Downgoat ~?

^
(as in what @jrich said, not as the operator)

@jrich then what would bitwise NOT be?

@Dennis wait, it was meta? why did you say that as a reply to the image?

6:59 PM
hmmm
how about `

°? ´? @?

@Optimizer You replied i dont get it to -1 no freehand circles. What was your question?

my question was why did u post it after that image and why did it get stars..
maybe its just me...

It was a bug report. Bug reports require freehand circles. Freehand circles get stars.

how could I get html elements by title atribute in js DOM?
there isn't a getElementsByTitle() method

There's a way to do it with jQuery, so there must be a vanilla JS function for it.

yeah... i'm thinking it's document.getElementsByAttribute() or has to do with that...

@El'endiaStarman Which way to do it in jQuery?

7:56 PM
@zyabin101 The SO question I just linked also has jQuery solutions.

thanks
ill try that

If JavaScript with no libraries is vanilla JS, does that make jQuery strawberry JS?

@AlexA. We should have a site, "select a JS framework by your favorite ice cream flavour".

I overslept and missed the Washington state Democratic caucus. ;-;
Well, at least Bernie is destroying (73% so far)

@AlexA. What is this?

It's where folks go and give preliminary votes for the presidential candidate before the party has chosen a nominee

So it is just like a survey but not like the definitive election?

9:07 PM
Yeah
Sort of
The next round of voting is the primaries, where the party's nominee is chosen
Then the nominees from each party run against each other in the election

@AlexA. \o/
better than Hilary IMO.

So what do you need to constitute a party?

xD
VTC'd as subjective.

@flawr Well, in the US there's the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, and no one else matters because the two-party system is so ingrained into how the US does things that no one else gets votes.

9:11 PM
@AlexA. See: Dixiecrats, 1940s.

See: Ralph Nader, eternally
Sometimes I imagine a world in which the people who voted for Nader in the Bush/Gore election voted for Gore instead. Then I get sad because I remember that Bush won. ;-;

@AlexA. Oh right, I totally forgot that! So are there actually any other parties?

Yeah

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Agreed, but I'll still support her if she gets the nomination.

@AlexA. That makes sense. In the case it's between Trump and Hilary, I'd learn towards Trump merely because I know what bad already looks like from the Clinton's. That, or I'd take a ride with someone going to Canada :P

Oh, I loved Bill.

9:18 PM
If it comes down to hillary vs trump, I'm not voting. =(

@AlexA. I don't remember him :/
I just don't like the scandalous nature.

No matter what, I can't vote. :'(

@AlexA. Did you see that Bernie is crushing it in Washington?

But were I able to, I'd vote anybody who's going against Trump, no questions asked.

27 mins ago, by Alex A.
Well, at least Bernie is destroying (73% so far)

9:29 PM
Oh, sumo'd.

@ChrisJester-Young Is your wife a US citizen? If so, wouldn't that give you citizenship?

@AlexA. I've been eligible to apply for US citizenship for over 4 years. I choose not to do it.

Ohhhh right, I remember this now. We've talked about this before.

In New Zealand, both permanent residents and citizens can vote. In the US, only citizens can vote.
Hehehehehe.

@quartata That is actually a new one=)

9:42 PM
hey, a question. Lets say you have 2 dimensional grid like this:
3 3 2 1
2 2 7 0
3 4 1 1
Each numbers represents the number of citizens in certain area. We have to divide this region into smaller sections, so that each section is similar in number of votes.
How would you begin to program something like that?

Do those sections have to be connected?

yes, not diagonally

I think you need to provide some sort of criterion.

ok, just a second

E.g. you want n sections or you want that the mean number of votes per section is close k or so

9:45 PM
You can connect them like that:
http://imgur.com/JCOZ1ZW

That means only horizontally?

Or like this:
http://imgur.com/5m6KnZE

So all partitions need to be 4-connected.

meaning?

Each square of a sections needs to be 'reachable' from each other square by just jumping over edges.
Ans always staying inside the section.

9:47 PM
yes

So and doy ou want as many sections as possible?
(If not, then you could just choose the whole grid as one section)

no, you get the number of sections you need to make
in this case i need 3

Is the existence of a solution guaranteed?

Yes

Ok that is a lot of information you could have given us right away. Is there anything else known?

9:51 PM
Just a second
As you can see english is not my first language :)

Out of curiosity, what is your first language?

slovenian

So you have to get the best solution (where the difference between section with the lowest population and the section with the highest population is the smallest number possible), the section consists of at least 1 cell

given a sorted list of integers I, a focal point F, and a group size N, find the smallest possible integer range that includes F and N-1 other integers from I

10:00 PM

my tokenizer worked \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/

Actually, that might not be what you are looking for, it simply gives "approximate" answers.

@PhiNotPi Wow, I didn't know there was a word for that. Thanks :)

@drobilc Which word are you talking about?

@PhiNotPi gerrymandering

10:04 PM
I wouldn't call what you are trying to do "gerrymandering" though.
Gerrymandering is what happens when, during the process of redistricting, politicians choose the dividing lines as to give themselves an advantage and hurt their opponent.

Yes, I'm trying to even the number of people on each district of a country

@Downgoat MUST FIX PLS
Not on my computer, so I can't.

I will once I finish a part of the language I"m making

Stahp wiht that image.
Start feeling like it.

@drobilc If you want exact answers, I can't really think of anything that's not brute-force.

10:13 PM
@PhiNotPi But how would you even begin brute-forcing it?

Brute force would be a recursive algorithm that, given a partially-colored map, picks the next uncolored square and attempts to give it a valid color assignment. For each valid color assignment, it recurses on the new map. The option that gives the best result is the one that is returned.

I'm making a language, does anyone have any language name ideas/suggestions?

cheddar

as in the cheese?

10:36 PM
does anyone here know much about JavaScript generators?

@Downgoat cheddar is not cheese.

@flawr cheddar is a type of cheese though

@Downgoat I will never accept this notion.

why?

Haha, that is one of the first things I learned when I visited the us=)
It just doesn't look and taste like any cheese I know.
It feels so artificial.
But anyway, that is just my experience=)

10:47 PM
@Downgoat YES
I KNOW SO MUCH

ok, well I need help with them...
    [Symbol.iterator]() {
        for (let i = 0; i < this.length; i++) {
            yield this[i];
        }
        return this;
    }

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ MUCH KNOW, VERY JAVA, MANY SCRIPT, SO GENERATE

for some reason my transpiler is complaining about the yield this[i], any idea why that's happening?
@flawr ಠ_ಠ Java =\= JavaScript

This doesn't look quite like a generator ... are you using classes?

yes

10:48 PM
Hm.
I would try creating a generator then assigning it to the iterator symbol.

=

And bind it with the sufficient function.

oh, I forgot the *, nevermind

10:49 PM
ES6 is beautiful :^)

I haz no dataz on zis languaz.

JavaScript ES6?

ES6 - Energetic Sorcer 6
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yes.

It's better.

10:51 PM
Will learn it some day...
... but procrastination is here...

Why don't you learn ES7? It's one more!

@Solver but JavaScript...
@flawr ES7 has like 5% support even with transpilers.

@Downgoat Is my favourite language!

@Downgoat Oh, didn't know it even exists^^

@flawr lol

10:54 PM
@flawr :/
any other language name suggestions besides Cheddar?

I used Cookie for my language...
... sweet foods is a nice idea...
How about... Icecream!

... interesting idea...

@Downgoat Can you tell us a bit about it's features / ideas?

I am actually serious.
And my language is called Cookie (find it on Github)

@flawr There are even ES4 runtimes (ES4 makes JS a full-blown Object-Oriented language instead of just prototype-based). To bad it was dropped by ECMA and never implemented in any browser or mainstream engine.

10:57 PM
@flawr it's a high-level, general porpoise language. An example program is...

    class Person(String: name, Int: age) {
      main {
        self name name
        self age  Age:(age)
      }
    }

    ExamplePerson := Person:("Bob", 39)
    print ExamplePerson.age #prints 39

JavC#++Script

JavC#++Scrython

JavC#++Scrython ES6

10:59 PM
But Scrython has a really nice sound.

Maybe that could be it!

Scry6
