Interessant.

8:55 PM
So, which of our current moderators do not need to be re-elected? (Which ones are and are not pro-tempore?)

All of the current moderators are pro-tempore

Okay. Thanks.

At this point, anyone who wants to be a moderator must go through the election process.
No problem!

9:15 PM
My candidate score is only 31/40. But I make up the other 9 points with love <3
(or, you know, moderating experience)

Where's the query for candidate score again

Somewhere in the depths of the Nineteenth Byte transcript
The score shows for candidates who have been nominated though.

I know

Oh, okay.

My score is 14.
Lowest score wins? :PP

9:20 PM
haha
Just like code golf
But IMO the candidate scores don't matter much. I think it's more about the candidate's character, experience, etc.

Yay, I have caucus badge!

| I have no redeeming qualities whatsoever > | I can cook spaghetti
meeting all of PPCG's quality standards

We should have a magpie party and a tiger party.

I also got the Caucus badge yay

9:37 PM
Wow, 4 candidates already.

At this rate, we're going to have a primary.

I'm in.

I saw. Good luck!

Pretty happy to have got my manifesto to be exactly the 1200 characters
probably a better qualification than any here ;-)
@Dennis Thanks - same to you!
@AquaTart whats important is that your code looks like spaghetti

I'm not that good at popularity contests. I propose the shortest nomination should win.

9:45 PM
"Vote me"
No, that can be golfed

I'm in the middle of typing up my nomination because I'm crazy

for all other .SE elections I've voted in, its always pretty much been a case of voting for candidates that I am familiar with (assuming no red flags)
but this time round it will be really hard figure out who to vote for
1 hour in and we already have candidates that we all know are excellently qualified, and I suspect there will be more. Then there's me too...
@AlexA. if Dennis has 33, then I think you're already doing pretty good
I wonder if anyone eligible actually has a 40/40 mod score

Just wait for Martin's nomination, and we'll know.

yes, him and Doorknob probably

Writing this is harder than I thought.
Must be because of that "no redeeming qualities" thing

9:55 PM
getting it within 1200 is quite a challenge

That's where our golfing abilities are useful.

breaking the habit of 2 spaces after a full-stop felt a little strange

Just use a tab.

Noooo
1 space after full-stop renders exactly the same

Mostly joking. Why do you use two spaces though?

10:12 PM
Woo!
Election time!

Oh boy, conclusions. The thing I'm worst at

I am free to edit my nomination after I post it, right?

I think so.
> too long by 43 characters
uggghhh

What's the limit? Normal posting limit?

Nope.
1200 chars, I think.

10:17 PM
^

okay

Posted. Now I just need some nice campaign posters...

I'm looking at my own user stats right now.
Apparently, having visited this site 1109 days, I actually average <10 rep per day visited.

I don't personally think reputation matter that much; it's activity that matters. Reputation is merely a measurement of very specific kinds of activity
And, frankly, reputation measures the least important kinds of activity for what makes a moderator IMO

Maybe I should throw in some activity stats from my other mod job.
Like having banned over 700 users.

10:26 PM
I would have thrown in some stats like that but honestly I ran out of room

99% spammers, though, which is different than here

Yeah, SE seems to be pretty good at blocking spam without human intervention.

And SmokeDetector takes care of the rest, really.
Usually, the users can take care of that.
So if there's less than 10 candidates the primary is skipped?

Yes, but that's not going to happen.

Really?
I wouldn't think that many people would nominate themselves

10:31 PM
We've got 5 nominations in 2 hours, and 166 hours to go.

But most of the people who would have nominated themselves have.
The only nominations I'm really expecting now are Doorknob and Martin.

There's also PhiNotPi and ProgramFOX.

Fair point.
Although ProgramFOX isn't all that active outside of reviewing

He has 434 helpful flags. That's a lot of flags for PPCG, and certainly shows interest in moderation.

> 3 helpful flags
;--;

10:39 PM
Dennis only has 18 :P

And that isn't even fair, because my own flags get automatically marked as helpful.
Now that I'm a mod, that is.

Why would you flag something as opposed just to deleting it?

@PhiNotPi Same :)

I suppose for the spam flags perhaps

^

10:42 PM
Ah.

@Dennis I had no idea there was such controversy about the 1-space vs 2-space after fullstop thing. I was taught the 2-space way, but I do see the point of the 1-spacers

@Dennis OK, you were right. It seems everyone is nominating themselves
And here I thought I was so creative trying to build up the "dedicated rookie" persona
Well, it isn't something I'm building up per se. It is true
Anyways

interesting though - in a way in most cases it doesn't actually seem to matter - I think it it probably is appropriate to use 2 spaces in monospace font (e.g. writing beautiful code comments)
and in most proportional font applications, the renderer is smart enough to do the right thing regardless

I personally use 2 spaces, but we probably shouldn't talk about this in here.

but I think I'm getting way off topic

@AquaTart yes.
What is the consensus on links in nominations? Personally I think links to specific achievements are fine. I'm interested in opinions on links to further candidate information/publicity that is specifically created for the election, which could be seen as exploiting a loophole around the 1200 char rule

I was considering nominating myself, but I determined that I wouldn't be the best person for the role (look at my stats, for example), although it has always been a dream of mine. I still hope that I can do all that I can for this community, working around my schedule of course. Although I won't be running I hope I can be an asset to this communities growth and development. I wish luck to all that are running and I hope that we can keep our core users intact regardless of the outcome.

@GamrCorps I respect that -- being able to say you just aren't the right person for the job and put the community first before your ambitions is great.
I'm probably not the right person for the job either, but I wanted to try anyways.

11:09 PM
@AquaTart Thank you! Good luck in the nominations!

<3

11:24 PM
@DigitalTrauma Undo had a thrown-together Bootstrap site the first time he ran on SO, if I'm remembering correctly. It's certainly not forbidden, but don't be surprised if the majority of voters don't bother with the extra click.

@Doorknob thats cool - thanks!
where is your nom? you are in, right?

I thought that said, "where is your mom."

"Recent Activity: badge: Caucus" (for every candidate)
@AlexA. Lets keep family members out of this ;-)

haha
in The Nineteenth Byte, 17 mins ago, by Doorknob
@mbomb007 you might have to wait until tomorrow for my nomination :P Got a lot of other stuff to do today

11:39 PM
I just realized, @Downgoat has all of the noteworthy badges except for Copy Editor. Huh...

Martin is the only one on the site with Copy Editor IIRC

I have copy editor on CR X)

Nice!

How many mods can we elect? (Did I miss where it said?)

There's less reason to do edits here, I always found

11:45 PM
@HelkaHomba We have 4 slots available

@HelkaHomba 4, and at the top

But when people vote, they vote for their top 3 picks.

IIRC, your votes are for your 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences in order. Does that imply that votes are weighted by position? If so, what are the weightings?

Search STV on google

If I'm not mistaken, it works like this.

11:49 PM
we also did a code challenge for this

Q: There's an election going on. What's happening and how does it work?

@Quill Where at top exactly? I can't seem to find it mentioned

Ah, thanks

@MamaFunRoll I was rather surprised to see how high his candidate score is. He's been a lot more active in the more janitorial duties than I had thought

11:53 PM
@Doorknob (<red-face> spot the mod-election rookie)

@DigitalTrauma it's a selfie question
what are you talking about

Are mod positions permanent, assuming the mod is never demoted nor steps down? Like are there biyearly re-elections?

@HelkaHomba IIRC, yes
