Does RD know and/or warn if there is a Reference that isn't used?

@ThunderFrame only if it's declared - undeclared variables are still a problem though
Set foo = new Collection ' not seen if foo is undeclared
I didn't want to tweak the resolver and make it declare things on the fly, undeclared variables are evil, set option explicit or live with the consequences
2
@ThunderFrame inspections actually treat unused and unassigned differently; a variable could be referenced but never assigned, for example
It also finds unreferenced constants, members and parameters

> Awesome. Thanks. Are these callback signatures defined by Microsoft, or by the developer? i.e. Could we look up some docs to determine some default, "out of the box", callback signatures?
> This article gives a good overview, and links to MS articles.

11:08 AM
> The callback function names are up to the developer, but because they accept an IRibbonControl interface, they can be reused. For example, the GetEnabled signature is:

```
Sub GetEnabled(control As IRibbonControl, ByRef enabled)
...
End Sub
```

If I have 2 RibbonControls, with IDs ButtonA and ButtonB, then I could declare the callbacks like this, and define the appropriate callback name against each respective control in the Ribbon XML:

```
Sub GetButtonAEnabled(control As IRibbo
> So, there's possibly a code suggestion feature in creating unified callbacks..
@Mat'sMug we've made it. We're getting spam and free license offers.
@RubberDuck huh? where? lol
@Mat'sMug lol. Email through the website.
> Hello, Hope the New Year’s off to a great start for you! I am Veronica, how are you? Seeing how you always keep your readers up-to-date with the latest news on Microsoft Excel, I wanted to give you a heads up about the recent release of our flagship office productivity software. The software is called Able2Extract 10 PDF Converter.
> In short, it’s the 10th version of one of the most popular PDF tools on the market and this one is bigger than ever. The latest upgrade of Able2Extract is packed with a myriad features catering, first and foremost, to MS Excel users, such as: - Convert anything to Excel - Instant PDF to CSV conversion - Improved PDF to Excel conversion engine (e.g. recognize multiple tables per page)
> A particularly notable new feature for everyone dealing with PDF is instant PDF text editing (add, delete, modify text in PDF) featuring a WYSIWYG text editor (all changes of the text style are immediately visible). And this is just for starters. You can learn more Able2Extract 10 here: investintech.com/prod_a2e.htm If you find it interesting and would like to share it with your readers, let me know and I will be happy to provide you with a free license.
bwahaha
> I am positive that your readers would find it useful for their everyday document struggles. Looking forward to your feedback. Cheers, Veronica
I think this might have to do with me tweeting the contact@ email address the other day nope. that one came from the actual contact us form
poor INOPIAE. They're doing great work, but I always still find something
obtw I'm mostly keeping those translated comments for you guys to follow...
or refresh your German :D
@RubberDuck I think I might actually have a use for something like that. Would you mind asking them about this free licence thing?
@Zak probably comes with some kind of obligation to publish a review on our blog, ....which would be totally unrelated to RD
6:53 PM
@Zak Look it up yourself. If it is spam, they'll likely just give you a virus or something.
doesn't look like spam though
Oh. OK.
Isn't cold-emailing like that spam?
it's unsollicited, but not spam. spam would be offering us deals on viagra.
this is more like using the jetbrains contact us link to ask them to promote rubberduck
Yeah, looks like they're searching gitgub for Excel projects, and contacting every hit. Smells like spam, just a bit more finely targeted than Pharmaceutical Spam.
@Mat'sMug That would be spam.
The difference between spam and professional cold-call marketing is mostly down to the legality and professional utility of whatever they're trying to sell you.
Cold call marketing is illegal in some places.
Is there a matrix of tested VBA hosts? Eg. Installs/Works under Win7/Visio 2003, Win8.0/AutoCAD, Win8.1/CorelDraw?
nope
Wiki page?
but we've had feedback from users using it in some non-office hosts - yeah, a wiki page would be a good idea
we're using PIA's for Office 2007, so officially we're only working on Office 2007+
but there was this guy using 1.x on Office 97 IIRC
8:30 PM
.net 4.5 requires Vista or later, so I guess if you can get office 97 installed on vista or 7, it should work.
that's one of the reasons we're not on C# 6.0
I keep meaning to ask. When can we go to C# 6?
So it's not going to work on my alpha edition of Win 1.0.... :(
LOL. I can't imagine much working on that.
Disks are still good, after 30 years!
Zak
8:36 PM
Wait windows didn't always used to use years for version naming?
I should raise a support ticket with MS... "I can't get Office 2016 to install under Windows 1.0 Alpha."
@ThunderFrame I'd like to see the response :)
@Hosch250 when we decide that Rubberduck doesn't work on Windows Vista
So, in about three years when Vista is outdated?
So I guess a wiki should detail OS, Host application, 32/64. And a pass should be Successful Install and Load, but some host-specific language/IDE issues may exist "?
8:42 PM
thing is, I don't see any benefits to moving to C# 6.0 and restricting our user base
I see lots of benefits from programming in C# 6.0.
@ThunderFrame unit testing only works in specific Office apps, for instance
But, 5.0 or whatever we are using is fine too.
4.5
4.5 is the .NET version.
8:43 PM
which is what matters
@Mat'sMug I agree, there will be users that aren't on Vista, but don't necessarily have .NET 4.6
C# 6 runs on 4.6.
@Mat'sMug OK, but which C# version are we using?
the one before 6.0
I think
Which is 5.0.
Which added async/await.
Oh boy, I don't know what we'd do without that.
8:44 PM
MS used a sequential, major version number? WTF?
@ThunderFrame I don't know for sure. They have 4.5.0, 4.5.1, and 4.5.2 in the .NET versions, there might be minor differences there.
I stopped tracking C# versions after 3.5
At the least, it is probably compiler bug fixes, which would cause different behavior in limited cases.
I recently bought a copy of VS2003 Enterprise Architect for under $100. Worth it just for the Visio license :)
@ThunderFrame Really, I didn't really care for Visio when I was using it last semester.
It wasn't bad at all, but doing that stuff just isn't me.
I think Project, which I am using this semester, looks cool.
9:12 PM
RD requires the PIA at compile time, if the host application is to be supported? So I guess RD is using the approach that MZTools advocates?
9:32 PM
@Hosch250 C#6 can run on older versions of the framework actually. You just need the compiler, available on NuGet
And maybe a few class imlementations that aren't in teh older versions.
1 hour later…
11:01 PM
@ThunderFrame except we still admin rights to install & register the AssertClass API for unit testing to work
MZ-Tools doesn't need to register a client API
