No idea. It's like the server sometimes returns 0 for quota_remaining for no good reason.

Or maybe there's a rare call that uses a filter that doesn't return quota?
Are API calls logged somewhere? Maybe log the last 50-ish?

So why is the quota on the api docs 10000 but when running it from a userscript I only get 300?

To get 10000 you need an API key, i.e., a registered application.

You only get 10000 with a key kajigger
yeah that

Oh, ok. I'll check that out, thanks.

stackapps.com/apps/oauth/register In the OAuth field, stackexchange.com will do
The registration does not create anything public. Only if you are using write methods, you'd need a Stack Apps post linked to from the app page.
(Which is mostly a legacy of the time when write methods appended application info to the content.)

It's like they are just generating a new random domain name for every post.
Should link-at-end be extended to AU? They get a lot of this stuff.
The only concern is that the AU reports feed into their general room, and we wouldn't want to flood them with false positives.
Hm, maybe exclude this reason from reporting to AU room...

AU spam seems to get closed very quickly. Probably not a big need...
You could always ask them. :)

That's partly because their mods hang out in AU room all the time.
Anyway, I found a bug in the list of unwanted reasons anyway, capitalization again.

This is so poetic.

@NormalHuman Better with commas around "Beauty" capitalized...

The longest pattern currently in the rules is for websites. First part has options (burn|vapor|ecig|formula|biotic|male|derma|medical|medicare|health|beauty|rx|ski‌n|trim|slim|weight|fat|nutrition|shred|advance|perfect|alpha|beta|brain(?!tree)). The second part has options (about|market|max|help|info|policy|program|try|slim|idea|pro|tip|review|assess|r‌eport|critique|blog|site|guide|advi[sc]|discussion|solution|consult|source|sups|v‌ms|cream|grow|enhance)
Just mentioning this, as an example of their vocabulary use.
Anyway, I'll go back to put some beauty in titles, along with hair, skin, and such

@NormalHuman ^ I got asked this, but actually I have no idea myself :P Would you want to give an answer?

@ProgramFOX No idea about the report, but the general difference is that non-English languages can use Latin characters. Think French, which uses broadly the same Latin char set as English, but is clearly not English.

Hmm, I see. Thanks!
But that doesn't explain how the report mechanism works, though.
Because there is no mechanism to see if something is using English words or not.

Nope, because I have no idea what report he's talking about, or the workings of it :)

am I wrong?

And we should... but I got sidetracked and forgot about the plan to report rep when it's > 1

oh good I'm still right. :P

Because to do that reliably, we need an extra API call for posts reported on the basis of websocket feed.
But that in itself is slightly problematic, because then everything is delayed by 60 seconds (?)
At least, this is how long we wait now before fetching the posts...
Sigh. Maybe Metasmoke could fetch rep on its end. :)

So about 5400
@rene Why?

That's only 54 API calls. :)

Yes, I shrugged at some of the manual SOCVR reports recently.

9:25 PM

@NormalHuman please ping me if you see that again, I'm updating our guidance as we speak

Sure, will do. Or maybe we need a !!/counter-report command :)
Some of those I simply rmblu, though.

like maybe fpu- ?

for now I want to fix whatever damage is done.

fpu- would work too, I think.

9:27 PM
@rene I wouldn't worry about it, we can just fpu them as they come up

I don't think there is that much damage. There is no flood of false reports of that kind, and when they do appear, users get delisted.

Maybe !!/report shouldn't automatically blacklist when invoked from SOCVR, though.
But yeah, it's not a huge thing

OK, so we are on the lookout for false positives and try to fix them if they popup and we keep us other informed if we see new reports that are not abusive or spam?

I've been trying to keep it under control (Drew and Kevin seem to be the only ones using it on questionable content), but I didn't really want to outright say that they shouldn't be using it for that kind of stuff. Being that there was recently a message (can't remember where) which said something along the lines of "blacklist the user if you want to see the next post from that user".

At some point we need to make a decision about whether we want Smokey to be strictly spam or "stuff that needs attention for some reason" too.

9:30 PM
I vote just spam and offensive gets counted as "true".
Have plenty of queues for other stuff.

True

@TinyGiant That should have been "blacklist the user if you want everyone to see the next post from that user".
But perhaps saying: if this user posts spam/abusive content would be more clear, and to the point.

that ^

That's what I thought, I was kind of caught off-guard when I read that message the first time.
I'm going to try and find that message and make sure I'm not on glue.

OK, @TinyGiant updated our room-guidance. Let's see if we can bring this guidance into practice in our room. I'll keep an eye on those messages.
