Recently my accepted:answer ratio has been going down, sharply.

Any idea why this doesn't remove trailing brackets? It does remove the leading ones: /^[\s\(\[]+|[\s\(\[]+$/g

@EBrown It seems that there are many more answers now than before. Or is it just me?

@JeroenVannevel Because you don't have them on the classes.
@JeroenVannevel ^[\s\(\[\]]+|[\s\(\[\]]+$/g

5:02 PM
We can't review stub code. If you're specifically interested in removing goto calls in a diluted/boiled-down version of the code stripped of its context, Stack Overflow would be a better place to ask, but I'm not sure how well it would be received. Alternatively, include the whole code, but if it's not your own, you might be violating its license by posting it here, under CC-by-SA. — Mat's Mug ♦ 36 secs ago

@TopinFrassi Potentially.

anyone know of some good scholarships or grants for IT degrees?

@EBrown that doesn't do what I want to do

@JeroenVannevel Then what do you want it to do?

exactly as I say
Remove trailing and leading brackets

5:03 PM
@Malachi Bachelors or Masters?

I think I know why: it stops the regex after the first one is matched and then doesn't do the removing which is done in the second regex

@Hosch250 Bachelors

@JeroenVannevel You don't have a character for trailing brackets in the regex at all.

Usually for a Bachelors, you have limited scholarships available based on need, minority status, and academic prowess.
You can find them listed on the school website.

C# question ... If System.Number.StringToNumber was used on either an empty string, or null, is that the kind of thing that would raise a [FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.]?

5:05 PM
ah
That would be the issue, yes

A Masters has many more scholarships available, and you might be able to get a full ride there.

Works: /^[\s\(\[]+|[\s\)\]]+$/g

@JeroenVannevel Told you. :P

Oh, sometimes your work will provide some payment. My father's union gave me a scholarship because I am dependent on him still and he is in good standing.

@Phrancis Possibly?

5:07 PM
@Hosch250 I will have to see which companies around here are willing to pitch in for my education, might help steer me to job as well. I already have an Associates and 3 years experience. but it just isn't enough around here

@Malachi I thought you had a job before you moved?

yeah it didn't pan out... I have been jobless for that last 2 months

Oh damn, I didn't know that.

So, you'll probably need 2.5-3 years of full-time college (2 semesters a year, 15 credits a semester, doesn't need to be taking full time) to get a degree.

That sucks, man.

5:09 PM
@Malachi You could try the University of Arizona. They are one of the few with a good selection of online degrees.
@Zak was just flagged in the Renderfarm.

Zak
@Malachi Do you need to get a degree? I mean, sure, it's a very useful thing to have and it'd suck to lose all the progress already, but a couple years' work experience carries far more weight anyway.

I would suggest checking out the Code Review SE if this code works and you just need it to be editted (though I do not know if it does indeed work). To answer your question, the imports are to include certain classes from other modules. Yes, you do need them because those classes are used in the code — R Nar 41 secs ago
@Antonio I terms of giving good advice: I agree. I just pointed out how to get around the issue. This is not code review where I would suggest a mayor overhaul of the whole design anyway. :) — Pixelchemist 57 secs ago
if youre not worried about speed, yes. you would have to rewrite some of your code (especially the defaultdict stuff). Again, I think Code Review is more for you even though it is quite evident this isnt your code... — R Nar 14 secs ago

Trying to work a simple issue (adding an email address to a vendor interface), I realize that the interface has a bunch of emails that shouldn't be there... then I log into the application suite to add the one, and remove the others the "proper way", and find an application bug that prevents profiles from being opened at all because of above stated C# error.

@Phrancis Count the amount of values separated by a comma, I think.

OK, I think I found the booboo

@Phrancis That's not a sentence.

lol

@Mat'sMug That's not what the rest of his question seems to state though.

Maybe it is time for the ritual question: "Does the code do exactly what you want it to do?"

@user2754673 So the intended behavior of your code is for it to get stuck when it should come up easily? — Phrancis 7 secs ago

@CaptainObvious lol, it's that hard to type over a problem statement?

Thanks Santa, new "Nice answer" incoming :-)
One more vote on my wabbit question and I get another "Good question" badge.
I should write more Python answers, to get that badge as well. Over 3k points and no tag badge yet.

@Jamal you ant that badge tonight ?

@janos Nah, but I can at least make more progress on it.

A: Microgrid device driver controlling GSM modem, LCD, keypad, and relays

JamalThis is particularly hard to read: UART0printf("\n\r> ----------Testing function status:----------"); if (testGSM) { UART0printf("\n\r> ENABLED : GSM power at boot"); } else {UART0printf("\n\r> DISABLED: GSM power at boot");} if (testEEPROM) { UART0printf("\n\r> ENABLED : Store/retrieve ontime ...

Once you get the required number of answer, the score can slowburn

Yeah, and I now have the required answers.

@Jamal Could the repetition there be solved or would that be too high-level for C?

That may depend. I have recommended a new function, but that may not work exactly as described.

@AaronBertrand RELEASE THE CRAPPEN!

My C is incredibly rusty.
Sometimes you encounter a question of which it's odd it hasn't been asked earlier.

Q: How should I set up emergency access to business-critical secrets in case I am "hit by a bus"?

AndrewSwerlickI work as the primary developer and IT administrator for a small business. I want to ensure that business can continue even if I suddenly become unavailable for some reason. Much of what I do requires access to a number of servers, (through key-based ssh), cloud services, and other secure infrast...

Q: Substring function for C

TomSo, I am trying to implement the idea of a substring in C. This is what I have but I am not sure if it makes sense or is practical for long strings. size_t substring(char *destination, char const *string, int start, int end) { // writes a substring to the destinaton starting at start index ...

Q: Speech reorganization helper class

Mina FawzyI am working on a speech reorganization project. I have a util class that consists of three methods: check if a microphone exists, check microphone availability, and check text-to-speech availability. Can anyone review my code? public class MediaUtil { //returns whether a microphone exists ...

Okay, I'm capped. :-)

@Jamal How much till the C badge?
@Matthew around the water cooler: "So John, I was almost hit by a bus last night, but then I remembered you asking me not to last week..." — Michael yesterday

@Mast I had to endure a lot of C in my Unix class. I did also get an A, so it was worth it.

@Mast 15, or less if caching.

@Mast @TheCoffeeCup FYI: I did quite a bit of work today on Brainduck. User Experience should have been improved a bit. I hope to do more work on it soon.

I used to program Atmel chips in C. But that has been a while.

@Duga will inform in Cardshifter TCG room exactly how much I did today.

@SimonForsberg If all goes well I have a little time tomorrow where a Brainduck session would fit in just nice.

@Jamal That's silver, right?

Yeah

9:57 PM
Guys, I just want to say, I love this room. :)

I agree on every level with that. :D

It's like a second home to me.
Even on our bad days we're all pretty awesome.

@Mast Okay, now it's 11 more

We're better than most all other Chat.SE rooms.

@Jamal Can't take that long.
