hey
Happy birthday @SimonForsberg!
@Phrancis Ouch, that sucks

hey !
@skiwi how do you know ?

@Marc-Andre I know everything!

Happy birthday @SimonForsberg !

I like how today we were writing code for Arduino and were wondering why it wasn't working only to figure out we never send a command to a servo motor :D

1:21 PM
That is just a small detail!

Monking
I think I just saw someone make a complete arse about themselves because they were pissed off by the rainbow logo SO had

hey @Phrancis

@ARedHerring The rainbow logo was like at least 2 weeks ago no ?

@Marc-Andre It was but I've only just stumbled across a meta post where they were furious that SO was trying to "implicate them into supporting the supreme court decision"
The entire meta basically reeked of "I'm a bigot and I don't want to support the same political views as you"

Was a while back, more than 2 weeks

Q: Remember when you promised not to imply that I support your political message?

Ben VoigtBefore dismissing this as a "spurious interpretation", please consider that these license restrictions are the same ones that protect our names and technical content from being used on sites that promote white supremacy (fancy some KKK pictures slotted between answers, anyone? Or maybe used to i...

sauce

I had not read that question !

I'm not sure whether he is arguing that its a slippery slope or that he is against the fact that SO supports the ruling
I agree with the premise but ultimately SO have expressed political messages before and no one gave a crap
and OP is from the bible belt.. not to make assumptions..

3:24 PM
@Deduplicator: Like I said in my last comment, "I am against having Stack Exchange attach any sociopolitical message to my online brand without my permission." Since it seems no one is going to give me peace until I reveal my thoughts on "civil rights for homosexual Americans", I will say two things: First, I am against the federal government seizing control of the definition of marriage from the states, even if all three branches agreed, except through the amendment process. Second, the whole "hospital visitation" thing is compelling, and the fact that these rights are available outside — Ben Voigt Jun 27 at 17:57
of a marriage only by filing hundreds of legal documents is absurd and benefits only lawyers, who get paid for document preparation time. I am 100% in favor of a streamlined process for two adults of sound mind to agree to a partnership of mutual emotional and financial support that gives visitation rights, pensions, shared property, etc, etc. And the couple being involved in a sexual relationship should not be a requirement (as some domestic partnership forms evidently demand). Make it available to lovers, army buddies, parent/child, siblings, and everyone else. — Ben Voigt Jun 27 at 18:01
@ARedHerring He's arging about Stack Overflow making it look like he's supporting a cause. The cause is irrelevant to his claims.

@Marc-Andre Whilst that is what he says, I mentioned before - SO have made political stances before (steve jobs). He did not speak up then. If this were really about SO raising a political POV, he would have spoken up when they've done it before.
Perhaps I am just a cynic :P

@ARedHerring No your point is valid since it's because it's something he does not endorse (I think his view is : the legal power should not have made that decision it should be the constitutional power that do rule that) and it was mention in this answer meta.stackoverflow.com/a/298021/2115680

3:54 PM
@Marc-Andre One word: Facebook. And thanks!

Nice

@ARedHerring Steve Jobs?

4:14 PM
What does Steve Jobs have to do with SO?

4:29 PM
If anyone is interested:
right now I'm talking with Mast about how I can use a Groovy DSL without BF-characters (+ - . , < > [ ])

5:02 PM
I'd like to not mess with my brain

5:12 PM
@SimonForsberg I checked in the chat transcript to confirm that it's today! Facebook is not the only source now!

@Marc-Andre You were able to confirm that toda is today?

What I tried to say is that I confirmed that his birthday is today by checking the chat transcript

@Marc-Andre but last year @skiwi also knew it thanks to Facebook.

It's already been a year?!
Time flies

5:32 PM
Which is nicer than remembering to look at the chat transcript to know about birthdays.

@Phrancis because there is a bug in the application!
that sounds like the description of an exception to me

6:04 PM
Yeah .Net NullReferenceException

6:26 PM
@StackExchange I gotta admit, I don't get that one.

Don't you know about the scandal with Volkswagen ?

WTF
> It sounds like the sinister plot of some straight-to-DVD movie. Since 2009, Volkswagen had been installing elaborate software in 482,000 "clean diesel" vehicles sold in the US, so that the cars' pollution controls only worked when being tested for emissions. The rest of the time, the vehicles could freely spew hazardous, smog-forming compounds.
Didn't know about that either until you mentioned it just now, @Marc-Andre

It will cost them billions of dollar

@Marc-Andre Someone has been living under a small rock :P

So the joke is that they "planned" to make billions out of the software to change the motor mapping, but turns out it will cost them a lot

6:36 PM
I don't fully understand it though
Seems like the engine would run in a lower spec mode during tests in order to reduce emission?

So the car's software would have to know when it is being tested vs. when it is just running regularly?

Appareantly ^
It's in a way a bit similar to GPU's being benchmarked, in that case they get into a sort of overdrive mode

I wonder whose idea that was to do this. Surely developers didn't sneak this past VW execs right under their nose, someone had to tell them to make this

6:52 PM
> Since 2009, we now know, Volkswagen had been inserting intricate code in its vehicle software that tracked steering and pedal movements. When those movements suggested that the car was being tested for nitrogen-oxide emissions in a lab, the car automatically turned its pollution controls on. The rest of the time, the pollution controls switched off.

Has it been suggested to put the cards in the deck builder in a visual grid display instead of a list?

@Lokkij Yes, we're planning on doing that

Cool

I thought there was an issue for it, but I can't seem to find it

7:10 PM
@Phrancis oh dear...

Holy crap, I love the Vox's cardstack reader thing. Can we make one of those too?

@Phrancis the what?

Go here scroll to the very bottom until you see this:
<div class="vox-cardstack"><a href="http://www.vox.com/cards/obama-climate-plan/what-are-u-s-fuel-efficiency-standards-for-cars-and-trucks">What are the CAFE standards for cars and&nbsp;trucks?</a></div>
<script src="//embed.vox.com/cardstack.js"></script>
Looks and feels gorgeous, that would be great for a tutorial or tour

that shouldn't be too difficult I think

That JS code is pretty hard to read, it's quite obfuscated

7:19 PM
@Phrancis and you should not try to paste code from another site
2

Ah, guessing that's frowned upon? Didn't realize that...

well copyright license and blabla. You can be inspire about what they do and try to the same thing. But you should do hey I looked at your code and did the same thing (unless you have permission)

Ah, right.

I'm missing some words in my message I hope you understand what I've tried to say

the effect should be quite easy to reproduce without copy-pasting anything.

7:28 PM
@Marc-Andre Yeah I got your point

I can't write today ...

Actually wouldn't be surprised if Bootstrap has a thing similar to that already, but one way or the other, I just think it's really awesome

Like not at all

Is there any difference between Pikeman and Archer (from Mythos) if you don't count the archer's lower attack?
We'll probably want to avoid cards being strictly better than another card.

@Lokkij Archer is ranged. There is currently no visual indication yet for ranged cards (one of the most important issues IMO)

7:39 PM
Alright, makes sense. I take it there's also no indication for taunt yet?

correct

I really need to work on that issue, been so damn busy from moving though

To learn how a given API works, yes. To learn how to write clean, flexible and reusable code, no. #Excel #VBA https://twitter.com/ExcelEasy/status/646385372491030528

"Clean, flexible, reusable" VBA? Is there such a thing?

ohhh BURN

8:11 PM
Can we currently do triggered effects? (whenever [trigger], [effect])

@Lokkij these are the triggers that currently exists AFAIK

Sweet, thanks!

No problem! A large part of the DSL is documented in the Documentation/ directory

Woah, we have a lot of documentation

All thanks to @Phrancis!

8:18 PM
I would like to have more triggers, there're some issues open (look for the tag)

8:28 PM
[Zomis/Brainduck] Zomis pushed commit 9816422a to commandsep: BrainfuckCommand is now responsible for what to actually perform on the BrainfuckRunner

What does set sickness to 3 mean (on Poseidon)?

> As @Phrancis noted in the chatroom, the boardstates in Mythos become too complex as the game progresses. I've come up with a couple of solutions to this problem:

- **Less continuous effects, more permanent/timed effects**. A lot of cards currently modify all creatures' stats as long as they are on the battlefield. Changing those effects to either a permanent effect upon entering the battlefield or an until-end-of-turn effect reduces board complexity massively: these just happen and the play

@Lokkij I think that means that three turns must pass before that card can be used.

Whew, nasty! Thanks.

Don't take my word for it, though.

8:43 PM
Yes, that's what it does, to essentially "freeze" or "paralyze" a card for X turns. We should probably come up with synonym DSL for that, it's not immediately obvious what it actually does

It's also a SUPER nasty effect to play against when it happens every turn.

Oh wow, yeah didn't realize that
I didn't create most of the effects in the Greek set (another contributor @Jay1148 did, I only wrote the DSL for them)

@Duga I agree with those

9:14 PM
[Zomis/Brainduck] Zomis pushed commit 2a46a6c4 to commandsep: Fix compiler error that was caused by last commit
[Zomis/Brainduck] Zomis pushed commit 7235b85c to commandsep: Extract responsibility for creating the BrainfuckCommands
