Well, what I mean with "geometrical" formulation is mostly not just writing down equations, but actually realizing which mathematical objects stand behind them - and in most cases, these lead to geometry: Symplectic geometry for Hamilonian mechanics, projective spaces and Kähler structures in QM, principal bundles for gauge theories...

@obe A better understanding what the structures governing the theories are, hints how to generalize them or how to understand the qualitative behaviour of systems based on geometrical invariants without having to solve the system. Also, many non-perturbative effects are more clearly understood on a geometrical/topological level.
