ok, I gotta go for a bit

> 35. That which does not kill you has made a tactical error.
HA!
@trogdor Ttfn!

be back later

> 37. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'
I like this one as well.
@BESW @trogdor I'll reinforce that I like what we do in our stories. So me getting restless that we don't do other stuff doesn't mean I don't like what we are doing. It just means I'm restless for the other stuff we're not doing.

12:52 AM
The dentist assures me that tooth is so dead that it would take a necromancer to get feeling back into it, but I am still nervous.

@SPArchaeologist I was thinking that was just a magical creature using magic to bamboozle someone.

@Miniman I've finished the this little race that I've made, however I'm unsure about certain racial features. Would it make my question too broad to include 4 possible alterations at the end?

1:09 AM
@SolidusVerum Probably not? I'm no expert on this sort of thing, and the Stack's reaction is hard to predict

@SolidusVerum Depends on what the alterations are.

The alterations are basically Add: this
remove: that
add: this nerf
remove: this buff

"Here's this homebrew race! Also, here's four other things that are 90%-complete homebrew races all on their own as alterations, please evaluate them too!" is asking us to evaluate ~5 homebrew races. Way too broad. On the other hand, "I was considering replacing the number for this feature with this other number" is tiny and fine.

@doppelgreener Okay thanks for the heads up.

"Tiny and Fine" is a good name for a band.

1:49 AM
@BESW Yes. Very much Yes.

2:15 AM
I assume D&D 5e has squeezing rules?

@BESW Rubber books?
You can squeeze them if you're too stressed from missing too much.

@BESW Yep
> A creature can squeeze through a space that is large
enough for a creature one size smaller than it. Thus, a
Large creature can squeeze through a passage that’s only
5 feet wide. While squeezing through a space, a creature
must spend 1 extra foot for every foot it moves there, and
it has disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving
throws. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage
while it’s in the smaller space.

Both these answers would benefit from mentioning that.

@BESW I thought about it, but it's something that only really comes up in niche out of combat situations.

Maybe mention that, then? because some D&D editions do enjoy their bottlenecked fights.

2:23 AM
@BESW I added it in the form of a link to one of my own answers :)
Kinda nice when I searched on squeezing and the first thing I got was by me.

The Fairy Nuff approves.

I went back and spread the love a bit to assuage my guilt.

3:06 AM
@Miniman I remember someone lamenting that the Powerful Build of previous editions was written so selectively, and not in a way more easy to bear in mind, which is just: "You're one size larger when it's advantageous to you to consider yourself that way."
Instead of that, you had to bear in mind a list of situations in which it applied, and then your intuition usually added extra situations which sorry, no, the author didn't specify that, you can't have that.
... which creates weird unintuitive cases.

@doppelgreener I'm guessing you're remembering this.
At that point, why not just make them Large and have done with it?

Maybe, I think someone like KRyan was poking holes in a situation revolving around Powerful Build or something.
Maybe in a Powerful Build / Monkey Grip question.
Or the lamentation is my own feelings and I never actually read it in something someone else said first?
I dunno.

Haha. Broken DnD Tools link.

@Nyoze Delete, replace if possible

@doppelgreener @Nyoze (Preferably with something not illegal.)

3:19 AM

A: Links to "D&D Tools" / dndtools.eu

SevenSidedDieI don't offer a position on the ethics or legality of linking to "D&D Tools" – that's amply covered already, and (despite my frequent writing about the legal issues of copyright) my personal feelings about what should be the ethics and legality are complicated and aren't relevant. There is a pra...

I don't have a link to Monkey Grip anywhere though, and don't know what book it's from.

Then just leave it unlinked.

@Nyoze Complete Warrior, I think, so any link you could find would be illegal anyway

It's reasonable to expect folks answering the question to have access to the material they're acting as experts on.

A page reference is a nice compromise

3:30 AM
Yeah...
@Miniman Anytime I can find a link on something not covered by OGL - I just tend to quote the link instead. Page reference would be good, but I don't have the money to buy all the books :(
Probably just as well BESW editted it, I would just be put in the queue to wait for approval :\

Okay, that was all the easy-to-find-and-fix references to dndtools.
There's probably a ton more but I'll have to go into the Googles for specialised in-link searches.
Will let the queue cool down first.

Does the site search within links?

Doesn't seem to.
But I didn't push it really hard.

Interesting

Is it worth flagging This Answer for deletion since there was nothing else of substance except the link?

@Nyoze Wait and see how they respond to comments, I guess

@Nyoze I've done so, also beat you to it on that comment ;)

@doppelgreener I saw that :P

@doppelgreener Could you use d20srd instead of dandwiki?

4:04 AM
For any OGL, then d20 is the place to go.

dandwiki's OGL is still OGL, but...
At a choice between two coffee shops with equally good coffee, I'm going to recommend the one that doesn't have week-old unrefrigerated egg salad sandwiches in its display case, even if I don't plan to eat them myself.

@BESW Well analogied.

The thing I find is that when I go to d20 - I know that I'm getting a good coffee. On the other hand, Dandwiki is going to give me a good coffee sometimes, or an instant made-up coffee in the same cup other times.

4:24 AM
@BESW Yes, I feel similarly to you.

You ever get that feeling when someone messages you and says its urgent, you reply to them and they don't get back to you? /Rant

@Nyoze You are describing a series of events and not a feeling
(for me the associated feeling is often severe confusion and a little bit of frustration, but they're usually busy chasing down other things related to the urgent thing)

Do you know that feeling you get after the aforementioned series of events happens to you?

@Nyoze i think so

4:35 AM
Okay, doing a Google image search for "series of events" did not disappoint.

... What?

The world is a large and strange place, and the Internet often acts as its lint trap.
Gosh it's wet and rainy out.

yeah it is pretty bad out here too

@BESW The way I look at it, the world is the dust trap of the universe, and everything that is just too weird for society in general ends up here with us :D

4:50 AM

Question: D&D 5e asserts that two-handed weapons require two hands. Sure. But do my two hands require only maximum one weapon each? Can I dual-wield my mauls by duct-taping them together? Can I swing around my bundle-o-mauls? (And is it truly dual-wielding at this point?)

@doppelgreener Sounds like an improvised weapon to me, enjoy your 1d4 damage

@Miniman This seems accurate, that 1d4 is probably something suffering a light graze getting out of the way of my impossible-to-use bundle-o-mauls.

@doppelgreener I lol-ed, but at the same time I'm envisaging a character who operates on the "more is better" principle.
Swords sticking out of his armour everywhere, a giant mass of blades, spikes, and who knows what in his hands.

...so, a Warhammer Ork.

4:59 AM
@BESW except less dakka, more stabs.

@BESW Heh. They have the best lore of anything in that universe.
"They think red makes it go faster, so it does."

"Their guns don't actually work, but they think they do, so they work for them. For anyone else it's just scrap metal thrown together in a vaguely gun-like shape."

5:12 AM
I recall a mission from the Warhammer: Age of Reckoning MMO. The ork currency is teef. An ork chief wakes up and notices all his teef have gone missing from his mouth and is upset about it. He asks you to find out who did it. You find the culprit, they fess up and hand over his teef. You return them to him, and he lets bygones be bygones.
It amuses me still how calmly he responded to having no teef left in his mouth.

Still my favorite character from the Drizzt novels.

This question reminds me of our D&D 3.5 campaign where the GM ruled that every time "an extradimensional space" was referenced, it was actually a hermetically sealed pocket within a single extradimensional plane filled with honeycomb-like cells of varying sizes.
This plane was, naturally enough, called The Plane of Indefinite Article.

@Nyoze It's the Rhino!
@BESW I recall you also had a bag-lich occupying one of those pockets. Did long-lost pockets of stuff from bags torn and rendered useless thousands of years back ever come up as a story element?

We actually had to raid the PoIA to retrieve an item lost to a popped bag of holding.

Oh, beautiful.
And, I suppose, contend with the guardian deity of that plane?

5:20 AM
naturally.

That sounds like fun

("lost to a popped bag of holding" is a simplification to the point of absurd inaccuracy, but the actual story involves trying to explain what we were doing with an artefact that was shifted halfway between two planes, and why we were putting it into a bag that was only shifted 1/3 of the way between those planes.)

> I want to peg the price at 10-15k per user: high for the amount of space, but with the added convenience of "yes, I do have that potion of Cure Serious".
Potions of Cure Serious, for when someone needs to turn that frown upside down.
(I get what they mean, but the contraction tickles me.)

@doppelgreener Pinkie Pie has stashes of Cure Serious hidden all around Ponyville, in case of emergencies.

5:35 AM
Of course xD

6:24 AM
Haha. I need a potion of Cure Serious now please :P
That works, I guess.

No
That is too serious

@doppelgreener Only if you don't realise that the same person came out with The Cat Song
@Pixie Holla :)

@Nyoze Hello!

How's it going?

Alright. Waiting on laundry again, hashing out new characters with my boyfriend. Names are hard. :P How are you?

6:37 AM
names are the worst sometimes

Ehh... Numbers hurt my head, and cause me to have random uncontrolled outbursts at my email. Outside of that, things are grand.

I love naming things.

I hate making new names. :\

Also, Cure Serious:

I have made dozens of characters who I knew whole backstories and motivations to who never got good names XD

6:38 AM
Naming things is often fun, but then sometimes I get a character who is so hard to name. xD

I decided a few months ago, I needed to change my online usernames since I'm not the same person I was 5-10 years ago, and... Actually making new online names is impossible :\

Heh. It took me a long time to figure out usernames that felt right.
Cure Light:

Cure Medium (Yes I know it's Moderate... Medium gave me better results :\ ):

@Pixie I've given up. If I can't get "Magician", I use an ugly amalgamation of it and the first part of my surname - the first thing that came into my head years ago, that I've used since.

6:44 AM
(@Pixie I strongly suggest listening to this song! ^)

@Magician If I can't get Pixie, I try Marionette, and if I can't get either, it's usually Marionette combined with something else.
(They are sadly both common usernames.)

@Pixie Pixmarionettie?

I'd love to use just the first part of my surname, it's short and easy to say. But some bastard somewhere decided it's slang for what people usually use slang for. I've never heard it used that way, never had anyone comment on it meaning that, but it must be on a list of forbidden names as it's always "taken".

@Nyoze The streams must never be crossed! It would be too powerful.

@Magician Maybe it really is just that common that it is always used? :P
Anyway, lunch time, brb :)

6:49 AM
I used to wonder if some distant relative of mine is into all the stuff that I'm into. Then I googled it.

@doppelgreener Catchy. xD

@Pixie It is great.

[flumps in]
Names are hard.

^ that

6:56 AM
I get weird about them. There are a number of elements I use for usernames, but they can only be combined in certain ways, or it feels all wrong.

I like how people each have username grammars for what usernames seem right.

Yeah...

Haha, yes.

I'll use Nyoze for a username, but I use Noyze as a character name... It just sounds better :\

I subsume elements into my identity like a gelatinous cube and then determine which other words sound correct with them.

7:11 AM
I listen to the Gibbering stars and they whisper character ideas to me, they gtfo when it is time to name them though XD

For characters, it really depends. I take setting into account first of all. Sometimes I have to establish naming conventions since I'm often working in original worlds. But if it's an Earth character, that can be easier and harder too.

@trogdor You should listen to the Carefully Articulate stars for character names, they're further widdershins.

they don't get along with the Character Creation stars though

Hmm. Yes, don't consult with both at once, and be careful if you have a pact with either of them.

@Nyoze Noisier, certainly :P

7:44 AM
@Miniman I did vaguely toy with the idea of I instead of Y... I decided I wasn't that noizy :P

@IronHeart The changeling race first appears in the wedding episode. Since then, they had minor roles in other episode too. Their story has never been explained in the tv show, the only clue you have is in one of the latest episode where the scene they appear in may be an indication that some changelings may have "pony friends"

@SPArchaeologist I do follow the show, you know.

Right, you saw all of them. Sorry, I still can't remember who saw them all and who didn't.
I blame @Pixie .

I think it is mainly Pixie who has not
among people who like it I mean

7:54 AM
You see? all her fault :P

I am always behind in everything. Very much so.

Anyway, creature with innate sorcery ensorcelling a potential threat and attractive source of food to keep him docile, is my thinking on the Shining daze phenomenon.

@Pixie You're a leading figure in back-of-the-packery.

@BESW The first of the last to know.

You are, in the purest sense of the word, ultimate.

8:00 AM
@IronHeart That is it, there are not man other explanations. What I wondered is if a changeling could live among ponies without consequences for the ponies.
@BESW Please, no. The latest thing we need is a black-with-red-stripes Fluttershy reskin ^_^

One of my super powers is being late for everything, like any good magical girl.

No worries, that comment is entirely un-pony-related.

You want something pony related? Have @Pixie play "Minuette VS Tardines"

No, I don't, really.

8:15 AM
not everything is ponies
thank goodness

@trogdor Marc will be joining us at Geek Night this Saturday, too.

mk

Geek night lol

Yeah, I have a lot of friends who find it hard to get together regularly because of work, families, and so forth. So I've set aside Saturday nights as a time when my house is always open if someone happens to be available.
Usually it's a pretty small crowd and we play RPGs.
But depending on who shows up, we might watch a movie or play Munchkin or cribbage or go see a theatre performance.

That sounds wonderful.

8:29 AM
it is pretty great

It's part of my effort to create a welcoming, safe environment where folks feel comfortable. Same reason I moved to more episodic, low-upfront-effort RPG systems.

I miss hanging out. My home isn't really suitable for it anymore for reasons I cannot control, sadly.

The last four years are the first time (except for a glorious year in college) when I had a domicile I could do this in.
Prior to that most of my games were in other folks' homes.
And the general out-hanging was a lot harder to support.

Heh, sort of the opposite for me. I used to be the one always inviting others over, and I really, reeeally miss being able to do that.

My parents did it when I was a kid, and then we were unable to for many years.

8:40 AM
It's great that you're able to again. :)

Well, for about a year it was just @trogdor and me every Saturday night.

yeah
it was still fun, but it is better with more people

We tried doing twosies in Fate, but Trogdor and I do a lot better, both as GMs and as players, when there's multiple players to bounce between.

Understandable. I usually like group environments better as well.

I hadn't previously appreciated how nice it is to be able to sit back and let someone else have the spotlight sometimes. (And I'm a spotlight hog.)

8:55 AM
Though I dearly miss sleepovers with a certain friend. Sometimes we'd freeform RP back and forth in a notebook, or we'd just talk out scenarios and plan for the future. We were always running some kind of game online.
(Actually, that is the same friend who ran the game with Veyfiel the door-mage and his bat who couldn't hear things either, which I have described in the Campfire. That was a sleepover with some of her friends, and we just thought, "You know, it's the middle of the night. Let's play D&D.")
But overall, I've always loved group environments because one of the fun things about RP seeing how people's ideas intersect and what they think of that I might never have. The more people, the more of that you get.

Yesh.

There are just certain people that I work really, really well with. Those are usually the only ones I do one-on-one with.
She was one, my boyfriend is another... I think that's about the full list, honestly.

Good morning

Yawp.

So question. I want to ask a question pretty much exactly like this one only for Pathfinder. Would it be considered a duplicate or not? I don't think so but thought I would ask.

Well the answer to the 3.5 one has a pathfinder product, does it not? Still, I don't think it's exactly a duplicate.

I am seeing the raw HTML I think
Nevermind

12:25 PM
Yes. It is. But I will now never mind. =)

12:38 PM
@Aaron as long as its for a different game system it wouldn't be considered a duplicate. Also, that question is very old and there's the possibility that some answers are outdated.

Answers being outdated means the question should get bumped--maybe with a bounty.
"The existing stuff is outdated" isn't going to make a dupe any less a dupe. The different system, though--that's viable. Even though 3.5 and PF are so close as to make little difference, I suspect it's a reasonable variation in the eyes of the site.
If you really want to get an answer on whether it's a dupe before you post, though--ask on meta.

And hellfire filling peoples lungs and ash exploding into ash.
...Er...

Or ash filling demons' lungs and exploding into people...
Wow... what a twist

How about hellfire filling peoples lungs and exploding people into demons

I mean, science!
"Because science" is always a valid argument. I'd even go as far as saying it should be an implicit Game Aspect in Fate :P

@BESW These bad movie stunts are incredible.

Q: Would this be a duplicate?

AaronI want to ask a question that is nearly identical to This question however about Pathfinder instead of 3.5 I am aware the two systems are very alike but I would like PF specific answer. Would this question not be a duplicate due to being about a different system? If it would be a dup, what wou...

@Aaron I found a fascinating bug in Pathfinder. Tell me if this sounds right.
Barbarian has a rage power called Brawler, which grants the barbarian who has it Improved Unarmed Strike while in a rage.
There's a second rage power, which requires Brawler, that grants the barbarian Two-Weapon Fighting for the purpose of unarmed strikes while in a rage.
I'll wait for you to find the bug.

List question to be closed? rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/65746/…

It's also subjective, and I imagine Bad Subjective.

I say this here, because I can't VTC

@IronHeart If you mean unarmed attacks are not weapons I believe they count as light weapons for the purpose of those feats.

5:41 PM
No. It's that a barbarian who already has Improved Unarmed Strike is still forced to take the rage power that grants him Improved Unarmed Strike (with restrictions, and no additional benefit) to get the second rage power.

@SevenSidedDie of course. I don't want that answer to be iuncanceled, it's just my OCD kicking in.

Because they forgot that people can choose to just take Improved Unarmed Strike.

Unless it is intended as rage-power tax, which is probably wasn't.

You're already paying a feat.
Or a class level.

Like Toughness in 3.5 generally was.

5:43 PM
What's a rage power in comparison to that?

Yep

5:56 PM
@IronHeart I would assume it would be more thematic
You get so pissed that you drop whatever weapons you normally use and just whale on them with your fists.

That's an interesting thought.
... okay, rereading, I'm now noticing that it (effectively) serves as Improved Natural Attack (unarmed strike) if you already have Improved Unarmed Strike. That's a failure of labelling I can't put on the publisher, whoops. (Damn you, d20pfsrd!)

Why is it that doing a Google image search for bear caught in bear trap turns up almost no images of bears in bear traps, but tons of images (mostly grotesque) of humans in bear traps?

I can find you one if you need one

I did get one. I was looking for a higher quality one, but was turned off by all the gore.
Hmm I wonder if SafeSearch filters gore...
Thank you for the offer

@MarcDingena It isn't an implicit aspect in Fate as a whole, but it is one of the Modes in ARRPG

Howdy @SanaBatool

@Sandwich I suspect they're here because this is the most active chat and was at the top of the chat list, rather than because they're interested in RPGs, since their account is with magento.se.

It's the most active chat because we're awesome, and other places are lame. @BESW
:D

lol
don't say it like that

It's not exactly a virtue to be a super-active Stack chat, since chat isn't the point of the Stack.

Well we're one of the more active communities, if chat is any indication
And we talk a lot which means we're tight as heck

But it's a nice thing to do while I wait for a question I can answer to appear every 1000 years, so I cannot complain. :P

@Pixie Indeed.

No one ever answered my Maid RPG Point buy question
Even with a bounty

It's important for the chat to remember that we've got --at best-- maybe a third of the really active citizens in here.

RIP Maid

The chat community is a very small niche group within the wider site community, and isn't really a representative sampling.

@Sandwich I don't think there are a lot of Maid people active here. Very niche game. I'm the one people get directed to in chat.

I hadn't heard of Maid until @Pixie asked a question about it.
'course, there are tons of games I haven't heard of. But as a non-random sampling of one, 100% of me were unaware Maid existed.
(3% margin of error)

And I must flee again. Alas.

If I played more stuff, I'd ask questions, but since I don't really play a lot right now, I am low on questions.

I play three times a month on average, and my Q:A ratio is 1:4.

I would join any game I was invited to at this point
Even if that game required me to invest time into learning the system

@Pixie yeah... same here XD
i answer questions very infrequently and probably wouldn't even be on the site editing so much if it weren't also for chat
i'd probably just not be using the site much at all

@BESW I see a sea plane sea plane.

@doppelgreener Alternate captions: "It's planes all the way down;" "Yo dawg, I hear you like planes...;" "The mother plane will carry her offspring on her back until they are able to fly themselves."

I see a sea plane pontoon sea plane from the seashore
I got one
"The little one is obviously the top in the relationship"

@BESW That last one makes me giggle so I like that one.

"We call that one the reverse kangaroo"
"All the seaplanes say I'm pretty fly, for a white guy"
