hey @200_success!

@rolfl Post a report on Meta SE. Preferably with a suggested improvement. Not because I don't see what you're saying, but because I can't think of a better wording of the top of my head.

@rolfl Those three stars are remarkably relevant.
3 votes, 3 stars.

@Pops Will do.

@Mat'sMug Hi

I think a lot of people (including myself) are wondering if/when you're going to announce whether you're nominating yourself or stepping down :)

4:03 AM
@Mat'sMug That's the tune!

Q: Wording of election-phase sidebar is misleading and needs repair

rolflFor elections, the election phase page has a sidebar with the following wording (and the wording at issue is bolded): In the election phase, 10 candidates advance to final community voting. Any community member with 150 reputation may vote in the election. Each community member has 3...

@Mat'sMug @Pops I'm rather miffed that my recommendation for there to be five moderator positions was not accepted. There is enough work for five people, and more than enough talent.

@Mat'sMug @Vogel612 Will you be running?

I'm sorry I'm still not quite sure. Especially since there's so many candidates who all would IMO make better mods than me..
then again I'm more bordering into yes right now.

If that's your only argument versus running I'd say go for it.

true that :) I've got some others but these are ... subject to change right now...

The nomination phase is still young, don't feel rushed.

10:33 AM
@Mast wrong room

Same colours, same users, confusing.

Mat and Simon and Janos are the rest of my guesses.
what about me, @Hosch250? lol JK they are good Candidates for the positions open
@Quill ▼▼

Sorry, wasn't sure about that one

this is a good instance of, good answer but not enough meat to the answer
it will probably be downvoted if it stays like this

uh, wrong room?

it's all good, I was just letting you know what I did here.
@nhgrif this is the Moderator election room right?
@Quill is running for Mod, as am I... I just wanted to make sure that we are both on the same page, in the case that we both end up as Moderators

Thanks @Malachi for taking the time :-)

1:51 PM
@Quill you're welcome
@rolfl what options do you have for Moderating chat? I haven't ever thought about the chat moderation tools until trying to answer your question

That, is a really good question ;-)

kick-mute, message-deletion, message moving and chat-suspensions
Did I forget something?
(aside from star and pin-related stuff)?
oh yea right: chat profile "About me" editing..

As a moderator, you have the following tools available, in no particular order:
1. you can freeze the room - only moderators can chat then
2. you can kick individuals
3. you can see the edit history of all posts
4. you can use some tools which can help identify whether a person is also actually someone else
5. you can see the suspention history of a user
6. you can see any previously flagged chat messages (but not who flagged them)
7. you can suspend users for pretty much any length of time (up to a year is easu, a century takes more effort)
Oh, an important tool is also the Teachers' Lounge chat room, where youc an contact other moderators, including moderators who may frequent the rooms a troublesome user may frequent

thank you, @rolfl
I am actually doing my homework this time.
kind of slow at work right now, it's the calm before the storm

2 hours later…
3:45 PM
No longer running. Just withdrew.

@nhgrif I had hoped you wouldn't do that now..

I saw that, why?

@Hosch250 drama in the 2nd monitor.

Oh, missed that.

I'm still shaky...

reminder that if you would like to nominate someone that there is a meta post, so check it out and see if someone has nominated you.

Q: 2015 Community Moderator Election - Nomination Requests

Vogel612In the light of the currently running nomination phase of the 2015 Community Moderator Election, I want to add this question as a place for the community to nudge candidates on the edge into actually nominating themselves. This seems to be customary around the network: Some sites like to hos...

I am sorely disappointed, @nhgrif - I am sorry I did not give you the individualized responses you wanted, but I was dealing with multiple people at once. I am happy to hash out whatever issues you feel there were, but at that time, in that room, I had to deal with other things.
@Vogel612 / others.... the 2nd monitor has been "brewing" for a while, and it needed to vent. It's past time. The room had become a problem.
Sorry if it left you shakey, but it should improve... it has to improve

@rolfl would you mind standing by your own word and open a meta if you want to discuss this

Also, I would rather like to have the room in good shape before I walk out.

I have left the 2nd monitor at that time for a reason and I don't feel confident to discuss this RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW where you take it to be

@Vogel612 I won't mind, but other meta posts have already been opened in the past about the on-topic nature, and I also feel I am missing what must be the important issues.
Also, I have to take the coward's route, and say I have family responsibiliies. Today is the 1st July, a national hjoliday here in Canada, and I have to go wave flags with my kids, etc.
I will be back ina few hours.

3:53 PM
@rolfl have fun :)

@rolfl not the cowards route

^ that

4:17 PM
@rolfl agreed. And as a room owner I feel like I failed.

@Mat'sMug would you mind keeping this topic out of the election room?
I understand these topics are intertwined and tangled, but I think right now it's too much of a mess to make sense of, even moreso when discussions about it happen in 3 rooms

@Vogel612 sure. Except one of the questions in the mod Q&A is specifically about moderaring chat.
2

true, but I'd like to wait until it's become a little more peaceful..

fair enough

5:05 PM
@Mat'sMug , remember when we used to string meta questions together? could we have a question and answer for Nominees like that? can you see where I am going with that?

@Malachi We will have a Q/A soon enough, after nominations.

oh I know, I was wondering if it would be easier better to do it a little differently. instead of comments about concerns we would have answers and people could upvote and downvote different concerns so we know how much the concerns mean to the community

Nah. Let's do this the SE way. We're a grownup site now.

6:09 PM
@Mat'sMug sounds good to me

1 hour later…
7:37 PM
Anyway... for those already running for moderator, this is the kind of thing you would have to deal with in chat. It would only get worse if it took place on another site's room and you were in the middle of it.

@Jamal Yep. I was almost wondering if SE didn't do it on purpose.

lol
SE is a wild animal isn't it

Conspiracy theories. :-)

So, the rule for other sites is to let their moderators handle it for the most part, but remove any blatantly bad comments?

Yes. But sometimes the site moderators won't be around, so someone else would have to take the plunge.

7:40 PM
Yes.
Thanks.
I'm going on a walk now, but I'll be back later.

8:08 PM
@Jamal sounds like my draft for the mod questions

8:33 PM
My question here is very similar to @200_success's question, only somewhat broader:
10
A: 2015 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

Hosch250A user has an issue with an action you, as moderator, took; calling you out on meta, a chat room, comments, or otherwise. How do you handle this?

11
A: 2015 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

200_successQuestion closure / dealing with upset users Suppose that you closed a question, which angers the original poster, who calls you a power-tripping moderator. How do you respond? The implicit question is, under what circumstances would you use your moderator privilege to close questions, bypassin...

Should I remove mine?
We don't exactly need two.

@Hosch250 suggest in a comment to 200 that he make his more generic like yours?

I don't know.
I pinged him here, so...

9:01 PM
I'll probably merge the wording if nothing else is suggested

OK.
I'm busy writing my answers to the questions.
Some are easy, others are tougher.

9:36 PM
hi @GraceNote
I am outta here for the day
TTQW

@Hosch250 I was aware of the similarity with your existing question when I asked mine. I wanted to know both the candidates' positions on mod closures and how they would react to backlash for a common specific complaint.

10:06 PM
@Jamal I suspect many of the 10k+ nominees have jumped into the middle of such things already.

10:20 PM
@RubberDuck I have 4k and I can see chat flags.
@200_success OK.

10:39 PM
@RubberDuck @Hosch250 To see chat flags you need 10k+ SE-wide, as chat is cross-site.
you have 8.9k on CR. Where did you get 4k from?

@SimonAndréForsberg Um, I guess I got it from the 4k top requirement.

I guess so

11:37 PM
@Hosch250 8.9K on CR + 1.4K on PPCG == 10.3K network wide
