A: Find non duplicateTriangle Triplets from a list of given numbers

nhgrifAt this point, I can only re-recommend my suggestion of the Triplet struct. struct Triplet { int a; int b; int c; }; But let me elaborate more on why this is important, I guess. What happens if we go back to your original printing implementation? How we print isn't really impor...

12:02 AM
@Duga I think @Duga should call them "zombies"

Eventually Stack Exchange will make a chat badge for me getting 1k stars on the same message...

@IsmaelMiguel Answering that with "their size" is like answering the question "What's wrong with the letter 'A'?" with "It's the letter 'A'".

@Ismael - The issue I see in your edit-concerns is as follows:
1. not all posts are perfect
2. not all posters fix their own posts
3. you can't see problems and ignore them - that's not going to improve site quality
4. so, you see problems, you fix them.
5. if there's a problem, then the asker can roll-back and comment.
telling people they cannot fix problems when they see them is going to make the site worse.
always,.
We want people to care about everything, even the small stuff.

Hmm, I can't edit chat messages.

I can... ;-0

Maybe you should fix queality then?

Q: Inspecting types that look alike but don't share an interface

Mat's MugI'm inspecting VBA code to find obsolete code constructs - namely explicit Call statements, like this: Call DoSomething(42) The "correct" code construct would be to omit the Call token and drop the parentheses - my code locates the obsolete Call statements and rewrites them like this: DoSo...

@nhgrif That deserves a star.

Anyway, it is stack exchange policy now that all edits that improve the posts should stay, and be encouraged.

A: What's a Zombie? And what are the many other memes of Code Review?

Mat's MugMeme: Jamalized Originator: Jamal ♦ (actually, apparently me) Cultural Height: All over CR (see this chat transcript search) Background: Jamal being a frantic editor. And he's fast. Q: Are IDE tags even necessary for this site?

JamalI am aware of two current IDE tags: visual-studio (3 questions) eclipse (1 question) I'm not an expert on IDEs in general, but I think most code is written in some kind of IDE. However, so few questions here use such tags, but only because they specifically mention the IDE that was used. If...

Status-declined is a tag that is applied by mods or employees only.

Right.
Should Jamal mark the answer as accepted since he considers this suggestion declined?

It is an indication that the issue is resolved. The use by SE staff is more important because it links in to their issue tracking systems.
Apart from that, there is no special value or meaning to the tag.

Right, but if the issue is resolved, mark an answer accepted?
I mean obviously if it's someone random asking we can't control that

I believe there used to be an accepted answer. Not sure what happened to it ;-)

12:28 AM
I think Jamal may have unaccepted it after I voiced some opinions... but if that's the case, removed ?

> **NO!**

The currently accepted answer suggests that IDE tags would be appropriate when the question is a sample of code that serves as an extension or plugin to the IDE. But if this is the case, are we limiting this option purely to IDEs?

lol... yea, so it used to have an accepted answer, then that became unaccepted with some of my convincing, but the stuck?

meh, sure, whatever. won't change anything though

What won't?
Marking one as accepted? Or removing the tag?

no more tag.

12:29 AM
I was just confused. Just noticed the tag.
Generally speaking, we should encourage anything with a "declined" or "complete" status to have an accepted answer though so that it sticks to the top and is more clear to users which answer is the site "policy" so to speak?

@Mat'sMug here's one option, i'm not super happy with it though share.linqpad.net/8usr4v.linq

It appears, so far, the IDE tags have at least a 33% misuse rate. And with that, you have to keep in mind that no one has even created and new users cant create tags.

@Mat'sMug the more i think about it, the more i like the dynamic solution. except catch a Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException

Also, the dumb one regularly falls off of things while trying to stretch.

12:45 AM
^^ that probably YouTube-worthy

She refuses to lay completely on anything. She's not comfortable unless she's partially hanging off, and then she stretches and rolls, and falls off.

One will lick you until your skin falls off. The other will bite, for the same reason. And yet another will just run around and be dumb, because reasons.

Most recently, she was on this little cat tower which has scratching posts for legs. She's on the top, reaching down to scratch the post... and she falls over, doing a frontflip.

@nhgrif That sounds unsurprisingly like what a cat does

Now, that's something Swift can't do (yet).
Of course, Swift can't even manage refactoring right now either.

Omg... "Quick tour of Visual Studio"... This better get better.

Can't even do a mass variable name change.

@nhgrif I can do that in VBA :)

@nhgrif A... what? ^^

1:06 AM
In Swift.

is this really better though?
            // loop replaces tail-recursive call
            while (true)
            {
                var statement = context as VBAParser.LetStmtContext;
                if (statement != null)
                {
                    return statement;
                }

                var parent = context.Parent;
                if (parent != null)
                {
                    context = parent;
                    continue;
                }

                return null;
            }

You can do it in Objective-C. They're still ironing out some of the finer details of the language itself, so some of those sorts of niceties are missing.

For some reason, miniAudicle can check for typos and stuff, but it cannot rename variables and stuff en masse...

But Swift playground is still unbeatable magic, so I'm okay with some of those niceties being late to the party.

(Oh, it can also take text input from microphone, for some odd reason)

1:07 AM
That loop is confusing...

I do understand your need to test private methods but you shouldn't do that. If you think a bit your private method must be called from at least one public (if not, why would you write it). Test the public method instead. Anyway I don't think RubberDuck supports testing private methods. — PetLahev 12 hours ago

You're even advertised already!

Bahajahahahaha. They're explaining intellisense....

cough cough ... zombies on the way down

@nhgrif it is... how bad can tail recursion be?
unless... Let abc = Something.SomethingElse.AnotherThing.ThatHere.NoHere.Baaaaah.HereThis.NoThis
Well, Rubberduck does no magic - if you can call the method, you can test it. You can't call a Private method directly in code, why would it be any different in test code? — Mat's Mug 11 secs ago

Josh KirkpatrickThis bit of code gathers data from two methods and puts in in to an array, the code works fine but it doesn't look pretty and i feel like there is a better way of doing what i have done. public static function RagUpdate() { $MachineOnOffStatus = self::RagOnOffStatus(); $ActiveMac...

Q: SQL server efficiency, comparing date time of latest record and the one under it

Josh KirkpatrickI have a snippet of SQL that compared the last two records and gives the datediff in seconds, however the way i have it is quite slow taking up to 20 seconds to execute depending how many controllerID's i needs to check, What would be a more efficient way of do doing this? select ...

@rolfl Hmm?

There is little point in trying to argue with a person who has already made up their mind about something.

Okay, but... no one but Steephen has commented. I'm not a C++ master. Am I completely wrong here?
I'm not interested in arguing with Steephen about it any more... just trying to check my own sanity.

I just recommend not engaging with people (@Steephen) in comments, etc. They are not the right place for 'tutorials' or 'debates'.

Ignore the debate and the comments. Do you have any feedback on my answer?

I would agree with your answer, yes. The vector is not the right answer.

It only has one upvote, no one has told me if I'm right or not... and C++ isn't my area of expertise, so I'm asking whether or not my answer seems right?
Okay.
Who are our main C++ guys around here? hmm.

I would probably suggest a full class though, struct is not the only answer
By the way, I have purged the comments.

10:37 AM
A full class is an option too
I wouldn't be able to debate a class with someone
Class could include isTriplet, and could include logic for making sure its variables were ascending (a <= b <= c)
or in Swift, rather than a struct, I might just opt for a tuple.
But I can also typealias a tuple.
typealias Triplet = (Int, Int, Int)
var TripletArray = [Triplet]()

Meh, the technicalities don't interest me as much as the fact that it looks like you were looking for some controversy

No, I wasn't. If this were Swift or Objective-C, I'd just know he's wrong. It's not, so I really don't know.

> At this point, I can only re-recommend my suggestion of the Triplet struct .... But let me elaborate more on why this is important, I guess.
Basically, you say: I was right the first time, and you just did not get it.
You may be right... (you are right), but the tone is.... off

But I didn't really give much reasoning behind it in the first answer.
First time I was righting it, I figured it was obvious to use a struct. Second time, apparently it wasn't so obvious so I spent time elaborating on why it's better.

Yeah, @Steephen's question makes it obvious he has dismissed the struct concept.
> To achieve this additional feature in better way is to keep the data structure as vector instead of suggested data structure 'structure' in place of vector.

Moreover there is no additional advantage, instead a change in the coding style with this suggested change in my perspective
There is no point in arguing with that. Just ignore it.
You can't help everyone.
I may as well try and convince you that Linux is better than OSX.... ;-)

10:46 AM
Not better, different.
As someone who has a decent amount of use with Linux, OS X, and Windows, I think I might hate that argument more than anyone.
Most people (not you necessarily) decide which OS is best without using them all. I've used them all and know they all have their plusses and minuses.

I'm just saying hi and claiming MS-DOS is the best here, runs away

So many discussions lately every time I wake up
Where are the good old days when we all just laughed with my super funny comments

I'm going to use this one sunny day we have each year to sit outside and read some Android stuff

Android... really?

That was the whole point of my Moviepicker project -- to make an Android app
I have an exam on it in August and this is how I study for it
And an app makes me look like hot shit

Q: Ruby Splitting an array by comma, is this efficient?

Chris YeungI was given a file of size 46KB full of names (around ~5000), in the format as shown below: "MARY","PATRICIA","LINDA","BARBARA","ELIZABETH"..."DARRELL","ALONSO" I wonder if my code below is optimal in doing what I want, which is to translate this txt file into an array of names. array = [] Fi...

Q: Create pairs from a set of numbers

SteephenProblem here is to list all pairs from a set of integers. We need 2 versions. In the first program, the order matters — pairs (a,b) and (b,a) are considered distinct. In the second program, (a,b) and (b,a) is treated as the same pair. Consider a and b to be positive integers. Is there any better...

There's been so many announcements in the last years about batteries, but still practically nothing has hit the consumer market... I'm getting skeptical
