A: Looping through an Excel document in C#

user1477388With appreciation for the answers and sound advice provided here, I have concluded that the real source of the issue was not my improper use of try/catch nor FirstOrDefault() or any of that, but rather, it was the Excel package. To fix this, the only solution would be to convert the Excel into...

@Morwenn LOL I thought that was a girl, until I read the title...

@All just noticed that there is a Blog Planning Event on English....
We should probably use the event-type system in chat for similar purposes.

please place the event at a reasonable time for the majority of contributors...
like about now.

3:12 PM
@Malachi This is a girl. But her name is "Guy".

@Vogel612 Presumably you mean: "Around this time of day", not "right now".

meh. Right now would be fine, too ;)

@Morwenn then it makes way more sense to me...lol...and I find it funnier.

@Morwenn does it make sense, that the strip is duplicated?

About 15:00 UTC?

3:14 PM
@rolfl yes I am listening to this, and watching that guy, he is kind of fun to watch

Yeah, sometimes off-putting, but he is brilliant to listen to (if not to watch).

@rolfl who is that?

@Vogel612 Nope, I think that it's a bug.

I can play chopsticks, and a few other things ;-) , but I would love to mess around like him with my own philharmonic as accompaniment
Also, I think the disney fantasia rhapsody in blue animation is brilliant too.... ;-)
@Malachi FAZIL SAY YENİ BİR GÜLNİHAL

@rolfl don't ask me to say that aloud, I think I can pronounce it in my head, but not aloud...lol
he must be pretty important to have the Philharmonic as accompaniment

3:21 PM
@Malachi Fun to watch, but not to listen to. The more piano a Piano is played, the better the resulting music. Much better to just leave the Piano out completely.

@JerryCoffin I agree and disagree all at the same time.
normally playing a piano in the middle of a full orchestra would take it down a notch but he it really good and the music they are playing really brings the piano into the orchestra as another piece without much if any ..... what is the word I am looking for....

@Malachi obnoxion?

interruption in the flow of the music
@JerryCoffin that isn't a word

@Malachi but it probably should be.

@rolfl this query is not returning current data..... data.stackexchange.com/codereview/query/169776/one-vote-short it still shows me with rep I had like 3 days ago, do you have a new one?

3:28 PM
@Malachi that's due to the fact, that data.se is only updated weekly..

@Vogel612 oh yeah that's right

@Malachi looks fine, you could point to diveintohtml5.info/semantics.html for more semantic tags

no idea... The down'side of being a mod is that I need to be moderate ;-)

@RavenHursT please excercise care when talking with a community mod. especially when this community mod is backed up by the whole community of this site. We politely asked you to comply to the minimal standards we require of questions. These standards are not randomly created by 12 year olds, but we have put a lot of though into them. We want you to comply to these standards to minimize the effort we as helpers have, and to provide maximum learning effect to you as asker. That's the problem.. Look at the question. I've done exactly what your "moderator" has asked for. But apparently simply questioning your "standards", even after complying, is enough to still deny a user from using your service. So much for an "open" community. Whatever. — RavenHursT 24 secs ago

I am sorry, but I fail to understand. As our mod quoted, I quote again: "I know there's some edge cases and race conditions that I'm missing." This means your code is not doing what it's supposed to. You can ask a question on Stack Overflow for that kind of issue. We will be happy to review your code, as soon as you have included fixes for these "edge cases" and "race conditions" — Vogel612 11 secs ago

mostly, but there are some edge cases.
we are tying to put together a proposal/meta question to resolve the fuzziness.

Q: getting rid of proper nouns in a nested list python

user2744489I'm trying to right a program that takes in a nested list, and returns a new list that takes out proper nouns. Here is an example: ['the', 'name', 'is', 'is', 'the', 'tresure', 'cackled', 'insanely'] Take note that 'where' is deleted. It is ok since it does not appear anywhere else in the nes...

@BenVlodgi have review something in other queues ?
6 reviews today in the queue by everyone
it's the total of the queue

@Mat's Mug, I posted this on stack overflow and they told me to come here. I'll go back there. — user2744489 43 secs ago

I'll go with you (and maybe take a moderator along with me ;) — Mat's Mug 7 secs ago

@Jamal let's go?

Alright

can't find the post...

@Marc-Andre it could be because I never vote from the review menu?... I tend to go to the post itself and vote there

7:46 PM
@BenVlodgi 6 reviews today refer to the total that has been done by the queue, if you vote directly on the post it's not a review.
(I think)

then, what is?

A review count when you're doing it in the queue I guess

^^ that

strange... good to know! tnx

If you vote or comment on a new question by a new user, it doesn't count toward a review for first post, so I guess it's the same for VTC directly on a question.

Q: Load JSON file into model using Javascript / jQuery (deferred, asynchronous)

user3546614As a beginner I am always determined to improve myself. I've got written the following Code using jQuery that is working fine. However, I am sure that there are cleaner ways for achieving the same. Right now, I am struggling with the this keyword and the asynchronous loading of the JSON file. Mo...

@Marc-Andre I would SOOO have that [badge:reviewer] if it were the case!

@Mat'sMug I'm always like I'll wait 2-3 minutes to see if it shows up in the queue before doing something :P

sneaky

You know badge :P

I need to downvote something. Anything.
Is it me or finding shitty answers to downvote is hard?

The code in the answer doesn ot even compile.

@Mat'sMug Why would you want to ?

Q: Let's Make Community Ads!

Mat's MugLast I heard, Community Ads were something graduated sites could do... but recently I stumbled upon this meta-PCG post, so here's a shamelessly stolen meta-post :) It's simple: you make an ad, and post it as an answer here; then the community votes for what the next ad should be. The highest vo...

Temporal Coupling? I don't know if I am qualified to understand anything that has a heading of Temporal Coupling, I automatically think of time travel

@Mat'sMug Pin it!

@Mat'sMug I figure the official post (after graduation) will receive more attention anyway.

@Jamal so PCG's is BS?

nice answer from new user ( @jgillich )

@Mat'sMug They're free to do so anyway. I believe a CM will post the official one when the time is right.

Is the word "ass" in "does this code make my ass look fat?" offensive?

nah, well maybe, to some potentially yes, definitely not the greatest way to get female code reviewers

almost a good answer

A: Prime Number Generator - Are the conventions proper?

tinstaaflOne thing you might want to look at is more efficient code. You're running a loop for each number you want to check. Using a Sieve of Eratosthenes means you do all your looping once and the index of the vector returns true or false according to whether it's prime: #include <iostream> #include <...

@konijn haha

does this code make my penis look small? (because the code is obtuse and oversized, needs to be minimalized)
am I over-compensating for the size of my penis with huge bulky coding practices?

hmm I think you're pushing it

Q: Dynamically loading jQuery when it's not available or version isn't high enough

Adam MerrifieldI'm writing a script for others to use on their websites. I'd like to use jQuery in this script. Because I don't have control over what frameworks people use on their sites, I need to make sure jQuery is available and that it's version 1.8 or higher. Here's my take on it. Does anyone see anything...

allright, TTGH - later @all

bye @Mat'sMug!
remember to write smaller code ;)
