@ColeValleyGirl: I would agree that candidate 4 looks the most likely one, based on employment and geography. Also, looking at Google's satellite map, Dowlais and Cwmbargoed are just a few miles apart, separated only by the large Ffos-y-fran open-cast coalmine. If he worked there, it would be quite plausible for Thomas to move between those two villages while maintaining employment (and a walkable commute) at the same mine.
