A: Why do opposition parties not want an election?

PelinoreWhy do opposition parties not want an election? Short answer : Because they think they'd lose. Long answer : Recent polling suggest Cons would win a GE held tomorrow reasonably easily on their own & if they came to an agreement with the BP that it would pretty much be a landslide. So the oppos...

This answer is not very clear to me: in the current context a GE wouldn't be a Conservatives vs. opposition game. For example the recently expelled Conservative MPs should probably be counted as opposition.

Can we have some evidence to support the third paragraph please? Which polls does this paragraph refer to? The pollsters being interviewed on TV, at the moment, are much more equivocal and nuanced than that.

@Erwan : You what? could you reword that please because it makes no sense to me, I've no idea what you're trying to say? in a GE any expelled Cons either stand as independents join another party or don''t stand, the Cons will field other Con-members that haven't been expelled in their place.
@DaveGremlin : are you honestly saying you don't have MSM or Google? OK then, I'll edit one or two in.
@Erwan : 'a GE wouldn't be a Conservatives vs. opposition game' : Which makes it worse for the opposition, the highest polling party other than the Cons is Labour (at 10 points behind the Cons on the last poll I saw), I really don't understand what you don't understand about that or my answer?

These polls were done before the recent political events. The traditional Conservative vote is likely to be more divided now. Even if they win, they are likely to have a hard time forming a majority. Overall your answer is very affirmative about the result of a very uncertain election.

@Erwan : Doesn't matter if those polls are b4 recent events or not, they're the only thing they have to go on & they're not going to risk going for a GE until they've seen the results of new polls to let them know what if any effect recent events may have had to voting intentions, the rest of your point I simply don't understand (appears to be meaningless corp speak & weasel word drivel) & the very fact it would be uncertain simply reinforces the point that for them to accept a GE right now is unwise

@Pelinore - It is good practice to provide references politics.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/40/…

@Pelinore If you don't want to hear anything other than your own opinion it's fine, it doesn't make what others say "meaningless corp speak & weasel word drivel".

@Erwan : Your 'concerns' with my answer all appear to be meaningless drivel with a few buzz words thrown in so I simply can't believe your 'opinion' is an honest one, the answer I've provided is simple straightforward & clear, they would prefer to wait until they have a better chance of winning more seats, your complaints all seem to revolve around the idea that there is something unclear or hard to understand about it about it when there isn't, a classic propaganda approach, I've not taken a side in my answer so I find it difficult to understand your motivation for it.

@Pelinore Can you please quote which exact parts of what I said you consider "meaningless drivel with a few buzz words"? For now you seem more interested in throwing insults than actually asking for clarifications.

@Erwan : Why? they're obvious for all to see & you're clearly just trolling at this point.

@Pelinore I'm quite sure the one trolling is the one who evades dialogue with vague claims and insults.

@Erwan : nice switch, raise false arguments ignore or evade complaints about them while continuing to raise more & when you're target realises further discourse is pointless & disengages claim they're trolling you because they won't talk to you any more :) yes you are a troll, thanks for the confirmation.

@Erwan : Let us not, I've no further interest in talking to someone whose only interest is in creating conflict rather than exchanging honest opinion & fact to reach a conclusion.

Since you insist... Definition for "trolling": "to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content ". I can easily quote 5 or 6 occurrences of your posts which match this definition. And so far you haven't even been able to say which part of what I said was unclear.

@Erwan : "I've no further interest in talking to someone whose only interest is in creating conflict rather than exchanging honest opinion"

@Pelinore: you realize that it's not because you say something that it makes it true, right? From saying that my comment "makes no sense" to pretending that I'm following a "classic propaganda approach", you have been attacking ad hominem from the start.

@Erwan : "you realize that it's not because you say something that it makes it true, right?"

News from Sep 3 "Polls point to a hung parliament" politicshome.com/news/uk/political-parties/conservative-part‌y/…
Likewise the Telegraph headlined today "the timing of an election could be the difference between a huge Tory majority and a hung parliament" telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/09/06/…

@Fizz : "Polls point to a hung parliament" but (probably?) with a lot more pro brexit MP's, especially in the Con party after Boris's clear out, might actually be more chance of getting something done than the position at present.
