One more medium hard thing to add to the site, and a few relatively easy things.
Oh, and a bunch of really easy minor things to do too...
Ere, make that 2 more medium hard things to do...

Just need a Tesla Page, New plots page, add in an add or two, and add in some re-directs. I think tomorrow I'll push out what I have done thus far to a wider audience, see what they have to say about it.

I think the images on the home page being vertically aligned when the screen is big enough to have them side by side leaves a lot of space on the right and makes the starting text "But where is the roadster really" feel hidden and far away
Otherwise it looks pretty slick

I don't have time to run the meme generator. There's one for "russia, russia, russia!" already but I need one that says "roadster, roadster, roadster!" youtu.be/-yZHveWFvqM?t=7
(humor of course)

Almost done with the website updates. What should I do next?
It seems people want to learn more about orbital mechanics... Not what I was planning on doing next, but...
@Edlothiad Hmmm... I could probably have the chart be beside the roadster image. Shouldn't be too bad I suppose. Hmmm...

Q: How to interpret and use characteristic energy C3 in this case?

uhohIn this answer I've interpreted the x axis of the plot in the question (also shown below) labeled as $C_3$ (characteristic energy) to be the "excess $v^2$ above escape velocity from Earth", and so I'd written the relation. $$C_3 = v^2 - v_{esc}^2.$$ Could I have some confirmation that this is a...

Are there any rocket scientist here? Looking for yay or nay.

@PearsonArtPhoto on my computer there's a glitch between May 29 and June 9 of 2018; between those two dates there is no motion.
probably not the "what to do next" you were looking for.

That is interesting. Gmmm...

I would love to have two ZOOM buttons. One would frame Earth-Roadster, the other would frame Mars-Roadster.

I'm seeing the same thing, BTW.
Will add it to my list of things to work on.

So far, with the current display, Roadster and Earth are on top of each other. 11 million miles is swallowed up by the Earth.

I'm starting to see a small difference.

6:18 PM
Probably I'm the only one to notice it. The curse of the stickler.

Ya me too. I guess it's not really going to be necessary now.

Okay, so it seems to be a problem with the data set.
I can update that when I get home in a few hours. Or I suppose I could just use the set from my test site, which doesn't seem to have the issue. Hmmm...
Actually, I know exactly what the problem is...
Trying to be too efficient, and failing. I'll get it fixed temporarily now, and do a better job when I get home.
@uhoh It should be fixed as soon as the update gets propagated.

That's great! You're welcome to remove the GIF if it's unsightly/distracting.
Also thank you for the answer to my question - you are multiplexing or time-slicing or something.

It's what I do.
I had already started to answer the C3 question, so...
If I have done this right, it will show events from the close approachs page on the chart now.

6:39 PM
@uhoh I'm glad to be contributing to your sleep.

yes, except I will be burning a bit of post-midnight oil tonight.
But indeed when the time comes...

Hadn't fully fixed the problem, but it should be good now.

About ready to hit the publish button for test.whereisroadster.com to go live to the main site. Will probably do it late at night one of the next few nights to minimize down time. Still need to add one more page, for some new types of plots, but is there any feedback you'd like to offer before I publish?
