@UndotheSnowman Hmmm... that's a lot longer than when he was last in The Pod Bay :O And it was nearly 4 days since he was last at The Workplace, tss tss :)
He's moving countries?

2:43 AM
Would we like to have a bit of fun on meta and run a Space Exploration Beauty Pageant 2013? Since we call our spacecraft and rockets and all the hardware as females, referring to them as she, I thought we could have a "who's the sexiest" contest of space exp hardware active in 2013 :)
maybe "Sexiest Space Exploration Hardware of 2013"?

2:56 AM
@TildalWave: I've added your Space.SE ad into our CPA 2014 ;-)

Q: Community Promotion Ads - 2014

Grace NoteIt's the time of the year again, namely it is December 2013, and so we shall now refresh our Community Promotion Ads for the new year. What are Community Promotion Ads? Community Promotion Ads are community-vetted advertisements that will show up on the main site, in the right sidebar. The purp...

And, Manish added @Undo's...

@CrazyBuddy Oh cheers to both! I'll have to check other sites too when they open such threads, and @UndotheSnowman too :) Thanks a bunch!
@CrazyBuddy Oh and BTW I've read your blog and looking forward to the Mpemba experiment too... I just didn't have the time to comment on it yet, I'll add "Poke @CrazyBuddy on Twitter" to my todo list :)

@TildalWave Heh, yeah... You better check it out. Both the ads would fit great for probably anyone. Wait, you've publicized in EE, Skeptics, etc. too... Right? :D
@TildalWave I just finished writing about Mpemba. I pinged you on twitter... Didn't you get it? O_O
To-do-list??? O_O Hmm... Looks like I can rely on someone else too, (in addition to Manish) :P

3:14 AM
@CrazyBuddy Aye, I'll check a bit later, I'm now writing The Sexiest Space Exploration Hardware of 2013 meta post LOL
@CrazyBuddy I got "the hot water experiment" but you mention in your blog that you'll do the freezing / Mpemba experiment later
> That’s just as expected. I’ve been saying all the way down, “I’m trying not to observe the effect”. Next time, I’ll try to get the effect (I’m sure I’ll attempt doing the same experiment again, at home)…

@TildalWave Great... Admit it..!!! You're writing such titles as a ploy to bring in more visitors. Right? :P

@CrazyBuddy Wait, your g+ account is "Ravi Shankar"? I've been to his concerts two times :)

@TildalWave Oh that one... Yeah - Okay, you got me :D

You play sitar?

@TildalWave That's the name of some guy-with-fame in our country. He's quite famous :)
But, I'm sure that I'm not him he's not me :P

3:18 AM
@CrazyBuddy You don't say :) He only played for The Beatles no less

@TildalWave Honestly, I hate sitar :P

@CrazyBuddy Yes? I don't I find it quite agreeable. OK, I'm not force-fed with it... but I would sometimes play a bit of Ravi

hehe :D
@TildalWave: BTW, there are a lot of Ravishankars allover the country. That's really a name that appears every one in 10000s (of the whole billion or so, population) -_-

tho if you have to listen to it all the time, I guess then anything gets annoying in time
@CrazyBuddy I knew that too, someone pointed that out to me before. :)

ah...

3:21 AM
how many Mpembas? :D

@TildalWave: Hey, Shhhhhh... (shushing) you're telling my real name out... :P

@TildalWave The experiment? Probably 8 or so times, and now I'm tired of doing it. I'll better do that at the start of next semester. For now, VACATION..!!!
badminton, swimming, juggling (learning now, starting from two balls), gaming, reading, blogging have extended degrees of freedom :D
Now that I've got out of the bed and brushed my teeth, I guess I'm ready to chat :D
So, @TildalWave how's your day going?

Oooooh... I forgot, you've been busy writing :P
I'll read that first :)
@TildalWave: How did you get the finalfrontier redirect? o_O

@CrazyBuddy we're awesome :)

When? I hope Astro and Physics too have some names :P
"All three active participants in meta..." LOL :D

@CrazyBuddy Dunno, you should ask for it, or better said ask your mods to ask SE devs and CMs

@TildalWave Nice... I guess it'd be fun :)

@UndotheSnowman I am?

@Tildal It used to be 4k :P

@UndotheSnowman it's now 3k :)

I only gave 26.7k
But I have more badges!

4:22 AM
ok, 2.7k then
@UndotheSnowman :P
@UndotheSnowman you probably wrote a script to open each SE site at least once per day, didn't you?

Nope. Manish would do that. Good idea, though.

hehe
@UndotheSnowman So how do you like my idea for The Sexiest Space Exploration Hardware of 2013 Competition?

@Tildal Hmm.... No comment. You remember my age, right? I try to stay away from words such as those ;)

@UndotheSnowman c'mon

But it'll get traction and hopefully draw people into Meta.

@UndotheSnowman Well sure, why not? If they find them sexy, then that's kinda the point :)

@UndotheSnowman I never said it has to be a complete system tho, it might be some part, dunno. It's open to interpretation ;)

Oh, @Tildal, while I have you here... "Pro-Tem moderator ♦ on Space Exploration SE" really should be "Pro-Tem ♦ moderator on Space Exploration SE"
Otherwise it sounds like you are a diamond.

@UndotheSnowman LOL

instead of just possessing one.

5:05 AM
where did I write that?

In your chat About Me.

Done ;)

Whew. Now I can sleep.
that was driving me nuts.
;)

How do you find the time to see all that? Oh wait, you're a student ... :D

Yup, the same way Manish has time to make userscripts to own the world. He's a student. A busy one, but still a student.

5:08 AM
I should now say something about "when I was your age..." LOL

".... we didn't have the ability to communicate in milliseconds around the globe to a complete stranger who feels like a friend"?

@UndotheSnowman Actually we did, just not so many

Lol
Really it's crazy how fast we can get information across the globe.
And it's crazy to think, "I'm setting here unhappy because my computer is receiving 8 million ones and zeros every second through a little copper wire, and I think that's slow."

hahaha yes the world is shrinking fast, and it's not just information.
you can even get a decent beer in the US nowadays :)
and drink one in Europe and in the same day another one in US
fantastic, isn't it?

Lol, yeah.
in Security.SE CTF Team, 43 secs ago, by Undo the Snowman
Can someone explain in English what this is?

5:27 AM
@UndotheSnowman answered there in the room

@Tildal Mmm, any way I could get in on the fun and at least watch?

@UndotheSnowman you didn't read the meta post, did you? :P

@tildal I did - 5k on SO.
That counts, no?
Or am I completely missing it altogether?

@UndotheSnowman Yes, and it also answers your question. Now all you have to do is follow announcements (or make your own if you think there's some interesting CTF competition) in Sec.SE meta and be in the main chat room and ask for access to the CTF room during the competition

Hmm... Sounds good. I shall now go busy myself reading that room's transcript.

5:33 AM
Most competitions are published on CTFTime.org, our team there is secse and we'll add you to it once we get to it (during or after some comp.)
Competition is fierce tho, and often our team doesn't have the time for it or maybe just a few challenges. I think all things considered, we did pretty well in some competitions, there's usually ~ 500 teams in bigger ones
nearly 3400 teams registered on CTFTime

@Hash sure, she's still operational ... a bit old and nearsighted, but I never said orto-spacecraft aren't allowed to enter :)
BTW everyone, don't forget we have a launch today in about 3 hours:

@TildalWave When was the first session in this room? Because, that was my first & last appearance for a chat session :D

Live streams for the launch of the ILS Proton rocket carrying I-5 F1 comms satellite are now available on Inmarsat (EN) and TsENKI TV (RU)
just posting in advance, just in case I fall asleep LOL

@TildalWave fall asleep? You're a mod for pod bay's sake!!! Usually, they're not meant to fall asleep :P

@CrazyBuddy hehe wait, I'm just looking which launch was the first here... I believe there was Morpheus Lander testing event before that, but you prolly meant an actual launch? Did it happen, or we waited all for nought?
I think the first one that actually launched was:

@TildalWave Yeah, Delta.. that one, exactly :D

@CrazyBuddy I was here for all of them, if you don't remember me here then I did my job professionally and unobtrusively to your enjoyment :P

lol
Wait, you're actually a nice mod. You didn't sleep today. You were awake (when I came here, in the morning), and now, you're still here :D

Yeah well, I started reading something on Titan since I've been following incoming photos from the last flyby, and things got interesting what can I say? :D

@TildalWave: What do you do?
Seeing your activity in IT Security & DMZ... you're much involved into these tech stuff? :D

@CrazyBuddy Professionally? I'm a dev and I pretend I know stuff on InfoSec ;)

9:19 AM
ah... And, you (being Slovenian), how do you speak (??) English good enough? :)

@CrazyBuddy I speak English most of the times yes. Sometimes I forget I'm supposed to speak in my native language with my mom even LOL

@Tilda Video Stream? Audio Stream? Telemetry Stream?

12:15 PM
@Everyone pinned on the right or a few posts up ;)

They really ought to feed the Telemetry Stream too |+:

@Everyone It's a commercial launch for Inmarsat so the customer decides what they wanna make public, which would mostly be a few more opportunities to advertize :)
mostly pre-recorded videos of "look how awesome we are"

SEx.SE gives them a solid 900+ views per day
To say nothing of other visitors

@Everyone I should write them that we want some swag in return LOL

swag?

12:19 PM
you know, coffee cups, t-shirts, baseball hats and other ads ruined almost useful paraphernalia

Cricket too?
Albeit a telemetry feed would probably be more useful than most of those things - except for other paraphernalia
Does any technology dedicated stack actually receive patronage from a major?
I think I just typed something wong ...

12:42 PM
@Everyone What do you mean? If they get swag? Graduated sites with own design would have their custom designed swag yes, but those are getting increasingly more difficult to get, especially after the SE shop closed. I never got a chance to get any, except for the diamond hat that is the same design for all.

SE shop closed?

Long time ago, I wasn't even yet here when it did

Q: What happened to the Stack Exchange Store?

Michael PryorThere used to be a place where you could buy Stack Exchange branded gear, what happened to it?

@Tilda I meant - Do any of the graduated sites receive swag, or other inputs from a major? E.g. SO members receiving promos from Ubuntu
Did the Proton make it, btw?

@Everyone you mean from Canonical Ltd.?

From whom?

12:47 PM
Dunno, doubt it, unless you attend their own events in which case being a member of Ask Ubuntu on SE probably doesn't mean much to them.
@Everyone the company that is behind the development of Ubuntu

@geoffc Eventually.
We have an RSS feed pointing to the new questions on Space.SE and m.Space.SE.

Hmm. Ah. So you also have one to Nasa Spaceflight.com
Neat.

Q: What feeds should we have in The Pod Bay?

UndoWe were recently having a conversation in The Pod Bay, our chatroom (get involved!), about what feeds we should have. These can be RSS feeds, and can contain anything you can fit in an RSS block. Also, one feed per post, the accepted answer should be community wiki and should include all feeds ...

@UndotheSnowman Neat.

@TildalWave Here?

9:24 PM
@UndotheSnowman aye, sup?

@TildalWave Just confirming that both you and Pearson are ok with me flagging for comment edits.
I.e. this:
Maybe edit this into the question so it is a clar answerable question (and not an invitation to discussion). — mart Nov 20 at 8:29
I know you're one person short, soo... I don't want to be a cause of more important flags getting pushed back.
Or wait, isn't there a dance you have to do to dismiss flags without deleting the comment?

@UndotheSnowman I delete first so you get the helpful flag, then undelete and edit, that's the easiest that I know of ;)
plus, you can get another helpful flag later on when you flag it as obsolete LOL

But the mods are ok with those flags?

I am, but I only speak for myself of course. Why do you ask? Did you have many rejected?

@TildalWave No, but just in the context of recent events.
It boils down to a desire not to be a pain ;)

9:30 PM
@UndotheSnowman What recent events? There was no related event that I'm aware of. If you are thinking of @Chris stepping down, then he said it's got nothing to do with us in any way whatsoever

Yeah, that's it.
No, it's more that now there's only two of you, and if you have to go through that dance every time for each little typo I flag, I wouldn't want to keep flagging little typos unless you're OK with it

It's just his personal decision, he's free to decide so. And he told us he's leaving, which is a lot better than some ex mods on other SE sites that just faded out.

I'm talking about mod load. I'm not thinking that I drove him away ;)

@UndotheSnowman Well, it took a lot less time to handle the flag than it does now talking about it :P (joking, I have the time)

Lol
Oh, in related news, I made enough of a nuisance of myself for the SO mods to notice that they were getting 100 comment flags every day at 00:00, and they asked me to spread them out a little. I count that as a personal achievement :D

9:35 PM
@UndotheSnowman Mod load is not too tasking really, then it depends on each individual how much time you'd like to spend refreshing pages and how often. I'm slowly getting a hang of things in that department too, and the new top bar is actually now better (faster notifications, but thats just my impression I can't substantiate it)

ok, great.
I'll go find some comments to improve.

I think that they should put as a basic requirement for mods to have at least dual screen setup. It helps a lot when you can have one monitor dedicated to this and still work on anything else
I actually now put another monitor so I have 3

Lol, I have an iPad watching the 10k queue on both Meta and Space.

and yes, my experiment of combining AMD and Nvidia cards works

@TildalWave Really? Nice!

9:38 PM
I even made the secondary NV card to do PhysX in hardware, but had to use some really old drivers... but since I don't use it as my primary, I don't really care for how fast it is in 3D mode
So I now have all the hardware acceleration anyone could ever want... CUDA, PhysX, OpenCL,... the whole shebang

My weekend project was to take an old HP laptop (one of these‌), and turn it into a home server running Ubuntu Server 12.04.
It's a happy server.
Say, @TildalWave, whatcha think of this comment?
Hey everyone..Thanks for the reply...I know it sounds like homework but is not. to make it more general question if u like so, I would like to know how to calculate the longitude and latitude of a satellite in circular polar orbit. thanks :) — Tas Tor 8 hours ago
Think we should edit his question?

@UndotheSnowman I did that once too, running lubuntu on it... I took the back side off and placed it directly on the note cooling pad, then disabled the annoyingly whiny fan it had over the chipset

I had Lubuntu on it, then realized I really didn't want a GUI.
And it has a WiFi card, so I just threw it in a closet (a warm closet now) and SSH into it.

@UndotheSnowman The question needs a thorough editing, if you have the time then go for it ;)

I'll try...
Hmm...I don't think I'm capable of editing it.

9:53 PM
Well the problem with that question is that you'd first have to calculate the orbital period based on altitude, then decide on some time mark when you pass over e.g. equator and account for rotation of the Earth. In honesty, it's probably best left for OP to realize that, or ask what he needs first.

@TasTor Could you edit your question to ask that instead? — Undo 7 secs ago
In related news, I have a 10k flag indicator again!

@UndotheSnowman well yes, that might be pretty much all we can do about it
@UndotheSnowman Oh, where did it go? It was one of the bugs of the new top bar?

@TildalWave It went away for 10kers in the new top bar. Only diamond mods have it by default :'(
Of course, we are Stack Exchange:
Good eye, @UndotheSnowman, I hacked it back in by reworking Michael Mrozek's soflags userscript. You can get it from here as either a Chrome Extension or a userscript: github.com/jamesmortensen/se-flags. Also, there's a feature request to get that added back into all sites by default: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/153298/…jmort253 19 hours ago

@UndotheSnowman So now it's back, or you just hacked something... again? ;D

@TildalWave Yeah, I hacked something that someone else hacked to make it show up.

9:56 PM
hehe
they're working on it tho?

beh

I think Bart summed it up pretty nicely:

I'm not sure how this can be so difficult. I mean, 90% of it was already there, all they'd have to do is keep the functionality they wanted and add new design and functions to it.

I know.

9:58 PM
Devs these days ...

Lol
SO has made them lazy.

It's a one man job really, and it shouldn't take longer than perhaps two weeks to have a demo ready, then test it where it would use all its functionality (obviously not mSO LOL)

I agree.

Of course, that'd mean devs wouldn't have hero status in all the latest MMORPG

:P

It exists, it's on Wikipedia :D

Yes... it just seems a wee bit spammy.

@UndotheSnowman it's off-topic, what more is there to say about it?

@TildalWave It's asking for a site recommendation. Something we readily hand out.

@UndotheSnowman No, it's asking about where to get a hold of a product. Any recordings of that match would be copyrighted so that makes them merchandize.
