@geoffc words mean things, even non-space words. Nationalism has been in the news lately quite a bit, have you not been watching? Did you miss the "very fine people on both sides" episode? Juxtaposing "nationalistic" and "Japanese" has real connotations; it's a real thing, did you check the link?
"no difference"?? very very big difference!

Q: Is there enough overlap between these four "space ship shape" questions to close at least one as duplicate?

uhohIs there enough overlap between these four "space ship shape" questions to close at least one as duplicate? Are there enough stray gasses in space to justify streamlining a probe? Is the streamlining of a launch vehicle worth the additional fuel required to carry it beyond the Karman line? Is st...

@C0D3X there is one comment from 2013, that's hardly "members are suggesting"

@uhoh Nationalism is a good thing. What one does with the idea is different than the idea. Borders are a good thing. What one does with them is what matters. I also read the "fine people on both sides" speech. Both 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after so I know what really happened.
Japanese ARE nationalistic, and it has served them well in recovering post WWII. They figured out how to do it right.

What you suggest is quite insulting to the Japanese, by denying the amazing act of turning bad nationalism into good nationalism. That is a wonderful thing they did and is praiseworthy. You turn it into shame. Alas, I think that is a ill thought out approach.

Q: Difference between nationalism and patriotism

El ShteigerNowadays, nationalism has a strong negative connotation attached to it. This stigma doesn't apply to patriotism. What's the difference between them? If there is a difference to what extent could nationalism be a positive force for good?

@geoffc Politics SE and "the internet" all say it's pretty much not a good thing. "I suspect" that you think it could just mean "pro-country" but by definition it goes farther. Oxford OED: "Identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations."

@uhoh Ah so nations should not exist? That definition is saying a nation that belives in itself is nationalistic. Ok, sign me up. A nation that does not, soon enough ceases to exist. Which may be a good thing in your book, but not in mine. I think nations provide value. Like everything else, it can be used to good or ill.
Heaven forfend you make policy that protects your citizens before others. Who ever would want to live in such a world?

@uhoh ok then

Really good line:
The grid fin just delivered on a trailer to Starbase is plain ol' steel. Stain-y steel. These fins will look amazing after a few cycles of temper coloring from reentry and oxidation from sitting out side. The mirror stainless, matte black tile and raw steel are really going sing.

To update: "Form follows function," How about: "The best aesthetics is no aesthetics?"

@geoffc if we can't agree on what words mean, if we can write our own dictionaries on the spot, then no point in continuing discussion

@uhoh I do not per se think we are disagreeing on the definition. But rather the value of the word. I.e. You suggest Nationalist qua nationalism is bad. I suggest it can be used for good or bad. I disagree with your value assignment. I see nothing in the OED definition that assigns value.
What is bad, in the OED definition? Everyone, every thing have interests in real life. It is lovely if they can place others above themselves, but rarely can that be done all the time. Thus decisions are regularly made at every level of life, to the exclusion or detriment of others. What matters is HOW you do that, and how it affects others.

SN15 cryo test today... Good pick of frosty and venting.
Some video from NSF...
On that grid fin, someone asserts: "The trailer tyres are ST235/80R16, so for a 16" rim, the grid fin is about 4.65m long. The trailer width is 2.6m so it is around 2.4m wide. This is over 4 times the area of the Falcon 9 Ti grid fin, which is about 2.0 x 1.3m."
That is a cool graphic of the known raptors!
(There are at least 6 raptors in Boca Chica in a hangar, numbers unknown as of a few days ago. Somoene caught them peeking out of a photo).
