@tchrist Yup.

Lamb Chop is a sock puppet anthropomorphic sheep created by puppeteer and ventriloquist Shari Lewis. The character, a female lamb, first appeared during Lewis' guest appearance on Captain Kangaroo in March 1956 and later appeared on Hi Mom (1957–1959), a local morning show that aired on WRCA-TV in New York, New York. == Concept and creation == Lamb Chop has been described as a "6-year-old girl, very intuitive and very feisty, a combination of obstinacy and vulnerability...you know how they say fools rush in where wise men fear to go? Well, Lamb Chop would rush in, then scream for help." Lamb Chop...

Gene of the day: FAAH-OUT - mutations in this gene make a person unable to feel pain.
> Dr Andrei Okorokov (UCL Medicine), a senior author of the study, said: “The FAAH-OUT gene is just one small corner of a vast continent, which this study has begun to map.
What's amazing is that it is located in a junk region. Probably has an unorthodox structure, and was not noticed during the Human Genome project.
> Two other key genes that were altered were BDNF, which has previously been linked to mood regulation and ACKR3, which helps to regulate opioid levels. These gene changes may contribute to Jo Cameron’s low anxiety, fear and painlessness.
This could prove useful in psychiatry.

Indian Wrestlers' protests are ongoing protests by prominent Indian wrestlers against the alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers by the BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh during his tenure as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The accused denied all the allegations against him and called the protests a conspiracy to remove him from the parliament.The protestors organized a sit-in at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, in January 2023 making the sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan public. After an assurance that the Central government will form a committee to look...

@alphabet you did of course add that 'are' with plural nouns is the way most standard English speakers say it and that 'are' sounds weird in AAE, right?
Sure they could infer that but since they're asking that inference will be hard to make.

@jlliagre I've never seen that
People say it is like a religious experience
@Mitch I moved to be in the path of the one north of Paris in 1999. That was a really special experience, something surreal.
A total solar eclipse occurred on 11 August 1999 with an eclipse magnitude of 1.0286. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun's, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness. Totality occurs in a narrow path across Earth's surface, with the partial solar eclipse visible over a surrounding region thousands of kilometres wide. The path of the Moon's shadow began in the Atlantic Ocean and, before...
The only religious experience I've ever had is one time when I was visiting someone and they are Episcopalian (and I have no idea about that stuff) and at some point during the service (did I mention we went to church?) Row by row people were lining up to go get this thing called 'communion' (sp?) And they got to our row and somehow I was walking up to the front and doing what my friend did and I found myself kneeling in front of some guys handing out juice and crackers
But saying it was something else
They weren't very good juice or crackers
Just saying
So the closest thing I've ever had to a religious experience was an intense feeling of embarrassment, not knowing if I was stepping first with the wrong foot or thinking u provisioned thiughts
@Mitch Sorry Mitch. The juice and crackers is for Methodists. Usually, Episcopalians use wine and wafers. It's hard to believe you have only experienced one communion. It's basically the same for Catholics. But tell me, how was all that a "religious experience"? You are not supposed to take communion if you have not had a first communion.
@jlliagre I don't know if you could use the eclipse in your resale advertisement
@Mitch It's a remnant of our antropophagic past, eating Christ's body and drinking his blood.
8:41 PM
@Mitch All of my religious upbringing seemed very mundane. The most religious experience I ever had was holding my newborn children.
@Lambie maybe the embarrassment was anticipation of being told that I wasn't supposed to do it
@Robusto mine were more...sloppy?
@Lambie That sounds like a paradox. How can you ever have a first communion if you can't take communion until you do that?
The ceremony is called First Communion. You study with a priest and THEN, there is a special ceremony.
@Robusto you've just proved God exists.
At least mathematically
Not that that would be convincing
@Lambie I know, I was raised Roman Catholic. But my objection still stands.
8:46 PM
The Episcopalians do not believe in transubstantiation. That's Catholic. I guess Henry the XIII was good for something.
@Robusto No, you are not supposed to take communion as they say before the formal ceremony of First Communion.
@Robusto objection overruled. This ain't no court of law
@Lambie Did you mean Henry VIII? There was no Henry XIII.
@Mitch If this ain't no court of law, how can you overrule my objection?
@Robusto I was talking to Mitch. :) [Yes, Henry the EIGHTH]. He created the Church of England when he broke with Rome.
I know.
@Robusto hah! You fell into my trap
What that trap is I'm still working on
8:49 PM
And yet I still move freely!
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
@Mitch Resale advertisement? I don't get it.
Also (for all you dieters out there) a waist is a terrible thing to mind.
@Robusto eppur si muove!
@jlliagre @Mitch is having a problem with word salad these days.
@Mitch Don't think you can moon me in chat and get away with it.
@jlliagre I was assuming you moved to this eclipse-conveninet place (and for the joke) also you've since sold and moved away
And an advertisement 'good for watching the eclipse in 1999' probably wouldn't work well for the crowd that would be attracted by the possibility of seeing one

I now declare my intention to start to always call it 'chocalatine'
@Mitch Good luck with all that.
@jlliagre 'move to' means you now reside in a different place.
'go to' is probably what should have been mentioned in that answer
