What does Pro means in Pro-Russian?

@Vikas professional edition
Like MS Windows 11 Pro

I would take Pro-Russian to mean supportive of Russia and their aims.

I think the new bill is introduced to make it easier to admit Transnistria into Russia
Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an unrecognised breakaway state that is internationally recognised as part of Moldova. Transnistria controls most of the narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and the Moldovan–Ukrainian border, as well as some land on the other side of the river's bank. Its capital and largest city is Tiraspol. Transnistria has been recognised only by three other unrecognised or partially recognised breakaway states: Abkhazia, Artsakh and South Ossetia, and has a Russian military presence. Transnistria is officially designated by...

> India will see a countrywide ban on the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of identified single-use plastic items, which have low utility and high littering potential, from 1 July 2022.

'Single-use plastics', as the name suggests, are those that are discarded or disposed of after one single use.

@CowperKettle What is the difference? Besides the price, I mean.

@Vikas The borders are so fluid on this one that I took it for something else at first.

Fluid?
I know this one very well.
I've sailed in that bay with my pirate ship.

1:14 PM
@Cerberus Hehe. I'm still sleepy, or I'd have recognized it right away. It's one of the maps I used to stare at during boring classes.

I always feel that hanging things to memorise in boring places is a good idea.

Do you teach your students the memory palace technique?

1:41 PM
@Robusto No, you need to draw seven red lines, some of them with green ink but they aren't green lines.
@Vikas I save all my single-use plastic water containers and consider them multi-use. Until they get gross and dirty.
Well, actually, beyond gross and dirty. Someone else needs to make a face before I do anything.
@Cerberus Whoa! Now I can tell my grandchildren that I knew a pirate once.

@Mitch Alewife to Quincy, that's the Red Line. Maybe a bit farther south. Green Line is all over the place. You probably take the Green Line from where you are.

@Robusto No, Red lining keeps ethnic groups in their place. Green lining is an attempt to counter-act the effects of redlining.

@Cerberus Fluid is a clue which if I elaborate will give too much away.

@Robusto But also you forgot Mattapan

@Mitch And how did that work out in Boston?

1:46 PM
@Robusto How did that work out anywhere?

@Mitch I always forget Mattapan, usually as soon as I remember it's not the same thing as marzipan.

@Robusto Both equally distatseful.
Haha some Mattapan slam

I'd rather live in marzipan than Mattapan.

@Robusto Do you mean historically changing, or smooth without sharp corners and 'hairy' bits?

@Robusto De gustibus non est pudendum

1:48 PM
@Mitch How many do you have?

@Cerberus I mean looking as if it were formed by certain motions of fluids.
@Mitch No me gustan tus palabras.

Right.

@Cerberus Aspirationally maybe a small set? I don't want to wish too much work on my own kids
@Robusto In all fairness they probably don't like you much either. Words are kinda dicks like that.

@Mitch They always start out small. Usually they don't stay that way.

@Robusto They're so light at the beginning, and then they chunk up and your biceps get sore, and then with their arms upstretched straining your back, and then there's the years of bending over to pick up Lego
Actually

1:52 PM
@Mitch Don't forget stepping on Lego blocks with bare feet.

I learned real quick how to flick them under the couch with my toe
@Robusto stomach clenches

@Mitch Such aspirations!
How many children do you have, then?

So there's on one end of the Green line there's Lechmere, but on the west end it splits into 4, but they all kinda converge near Boston College before terminating or shooting off to the backend of Newton.
Wait
E line doesn't go to BC, it wraps around Mission Hill to .. the VA center?

@Mitch People take the Green Line who have no other options.

Anyway, I would take the bus.

1:56 PM
jinx
kinda

@Robusto In the US that's true of most everywhere.
well... I don't know.
for the Green line there are lots of bus options nearby. Also the commuter rail through the center of Newton, which also goes to a lot of areas served by the Green line.

When I had to go to NYC or DC I would always take the train. It was much nicer than flying.

Oh since you've been gone they've created a couple of commuter rail stops, one near Fenway.

@Mitch Yeah, but being so close in your commuter trains were SRO, at least in rush hours.

@Robusto how long was that to DC?

1:59 PM
@Mitch About 8 hours, IIRC. I wouldn't do that for a day trip, obviously, but if I had to be there over several days it was fine.

@Robusto Frankly also the busses sometimes.
also this is 3 year old info, C-19 probably messed all sorts of schedules and availability up.
@Robusto For practical purposes, training to NYC is great because usually work is in Manhattan (and flying is awful because neither airport is convenient to there). But anywhere else has the extra 'you need a car or super expensive taxi' inconvenience.
I've never gone to DC that way so I don't know.
Travel can be fun but remote is -so- easy.

The Bos-Wash corridor needs some high-speed, limited-access rail lines. Boston-NYC in 90 minutes, Bos-Wash in 3 hours. That sort of thing.
@Mitch Flying is always awful, unless you're flying your own plane.

No, redlining is showing grammatical errors in Word, and greenlining is for investing energy, products and services in low-income, minority and disabled communities to increase profits and expand the economic pie.

On the train you can get up and walk around whenever you want, you can work in comfort from your seat, you don't get searched getting on, stuff like that.
@Mitch Where I live now, red and green are condiments. Put 'em together and you get Christmas.

@Robusto I wonder if being super rich and taking your own personal jet to a meeting is that much more convenient than first-class. You can drive up to your own jet and skip a lot of security and baggage checkin BS and waiting to be boarded. But... hm I guess that would be nice.

2:09 PM
@Mitch The point is, you can come and go as you please, not at the pleasure of airline schedules and connections.

@Robusto Salsa? Add crema for the full Mexican flag
@Robusto Being rich is nice. Cause that's all pretty expensive to have it all waiting for you (pilot, ground staff, your security detail, aides-de-camp, aides-de-chambre, attorneys-de-general, I suppose you can pour your own drinks and operate the microwabe yourself).

@Robusto I could have used less guesses if trusted my gut feelings.
@Mitch Example?

2:28 PM
@Vikas April 17th, 2021 - bought a 24-pack of mini (8oz) single use plastic water bottles for car trips and such. Nov 2nd 2021 - first time used one. Kept the bottle and refilled it multiple times from the sink over the next four months. Now I don't know where it is. Under the car seat? Someone else threw it away?

@Vikas This is great
There's too much plastic litter everywhere.

2:49 PM
@Mitch I mean could you show any photo? What kind of bottles you have for water?

@Robusto I was just joking

@CowperKettle Are Russians free to emigrate now, or does the government throw up barriers to that?

I just googled for it. I'm not going to go to the trouble of standing up, walking over to one of the bottles, placing it in an appropriate photogenic setting, take a picture with my phone, upload to elu chat (those last two steps not as easy as you'd expect).

3:08 PM
@Robusto There are reports in the media of long searches and questionings
Just today a news report came out, according to which some people trying to visit Finland are turned back.
The officials on the border demand some documental explanation why this or that person is trying to visit Finland.
And many are just trying to spend a couple days there, and have no "documental explanation".
But there is no iron curtain yet.
One can go to Turkey and flee further, if one has money.

3:37 PM
@Mitch Thanks for the trouble. Ah. So they are same what we have. But I have heard they aren't good for using for long time? I mean their quality is not as good as dedicated water bottles for daily use. They might causes health issues in future.
@CowperKettle It would be a challenge for government though. Not everyone is going to follow it and corruption might get involved in it.

@Vikas Sure. the whole idea of single-use is that their production can be much less expensive because they are not supposed to be durable. But their lack of durability is seen as a negative for the environment.
But I think it is becoming more widely realized that plastics have environmental consequences whether durable or not. They don't seem to break down at a molecular level, or rather break down at a mechanical process only down to small pieces of hydrocarbon substances. and single-use ones break down into pieces faster but the large pieces are an eye-sore and fill up land-fills, and smaller pieces get into the ecosystem and kill organisms (some fish try to ingest the smaller pieces).
Or so I've seen lately

@Mitch Apparently the idea of compostable single-use containers is too un-American to gain traction here.

3:59 PM
I think that plastic shopping bags should be banned, and plastic overshoes.

4:13 PM
And especially big plastic containers for tiny items.

Gentlemen, I did an embarrassing English mistake in this question 🤣 You may want to read it. You will find it easily in the beginning of details.
1
Q: What is the use of this green and red lines on Snellen/Eye chart?

VikasEye read that in eye tests red and green colors are used. For example: But in Snellen/Eye chart, these are not background colors. These are lines only. What is the purpose of it?

I realized it just now.
I wonder no one suggested edit.

Haha nice.
