@FaheemMitha well I think the rich are generally getting richer around the world. So if Indian multimillionaires are getting rich faster than the average multimillionaire in the world, it's uh, a special sort of bad? I think it'd be a worthwhile comparison at least.
@FaheemMitha weed in then I guess. I was pretty distracted while writing those messages
@FaheemMitha okay, it's sometimes a vicious cycle, I get it. But I feel like pointing at a random cultural trait and being like "this is how they do it in Western Europe or the US." isn't really helpful. It's just a speculation but I think this "higher culture" of the richer countries could have easily been integrated into Indian customs if India wasn't among the plundered but the plunderers couple of centuries ago.
Same goes for Iran or any third world country, I suppose, though there is bound to be some exceptions.

The cocoliztli epidemic, or the great pestilence, is a term given to millions of deaths in the territory of New Spain in present-day Mexico in the 16th century attributed to one or more illnesses collectively called cocoliztli, a mysterious illness characterized by high fevers and bleeding. It ravaged the Mexican highlands in epidemic proportions. The disease became known as Cocoliztli by the native Aztecs, and had devastating effects on the area’s demography, particularly for the indigenous people. Based on the death toll, this outbreak is often referred to as the worst disease epidemic in the...
Cocoliztli will give covid a beating anytime.

@M.A.R. I think it's happening faster here, and in an already very poor country. But of course I don't know the details. The Oxfam report is quite detailed and makes interesting reading, though I've not read the whole of it yet.
@M.A.R. Don't really follow, sorry. Pointing at "a random cultural trait"? What cultural trait? Also "this is how they do it in Western Europe or the US"? When did I say that? I'm hardly an admirer of either.
@M.A.R. By happening faster here, I mean the wealth disparity has increased rapidly, apparently largely during the pandemic. I'm not exactly sure how or why. Some of it may be temporary - some of the wealth increases have been caused by the Indian stock market. And that could quickly change.
As I think I mentioned a bit earlier, I watched this video which mentioned that the number of investors in the Indian stock market roughly doubled. And to a first approximation all these people have no idea what they are doing. The Indian stock market is quite volatile under normal circumstances, anyway.
For example, it's interesting to note that the stock price of Reliance Industries was largely flat till around 2014, when it started rising quite rapidly. That this coincided with the Nazis finally succeeding in getting control of the Indian Central govt is probably not a coincidence.
Ambani is a big Nazi supporter. Whether he is one himself, I don't know.
Actually, looking at the graph, RIL's stock price really took off from the beginning of 2017 or so. I guess the whole Reliance Jio thing helped. That happened in 2016.

@Cerberus So, just to be clear, you were not aware of this till I mentioned it? Was anyone else here aware? Just curious. Call it an informal poll.

Maybe 90% of the times whenever I want to type "Thanks", I actually type THanks and then correct it to Thanks. And it always reminds me of Tom Hanks :D

I think it has some science/logic behind it. Maybe T and H are closer on keyboard.

@CowperKettle sure, there have been much scarier epidemics. I wonder what would have happened if global travel was as commonplace then.

@Cerberus I fixed it! Took a chance on the wires corresponding in the same order from the motor control board to the motor - tested this hypothesis on the 6 working wires, and tried makeing the last 3 wires match. Seems to work.
