Californians are on a gun-buying spree. In 2020, 1.26 million guns were purchased in the state, a 56% increase from the previous year, and the most since at least 2000.

The people who don't know the difference between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.

@CowperKettle Been there, done that.
I think you mean etymology. "Entymology" sounds like a weird hybrid, like the study of insect word origins. ^_^ — Robusto Sep 2 '20 at 20:19

I am noticing more and more people being interviewed on television (Bloomberg interviews many folks) who speak with a bit of a lisp. It seems almost fashionable. it appears to be related to an underbite, which they could correct by thrusting the lower jaw forward a bit. Perhaps local accents are partly genetic, the structure of the parts.

7:19 AM
I cannot bring myself to watch the interview with Putin.
It's like watching an interview with a criminal that holds your family hostage.
And you cannot do anything about it. There is no justice, no court, no police that can apprehend him.
My longtime close friend from Moscow, whom I know personally, deletes all mentions of politics in our personal chat in Telegram, he is so afraid.
Putin is holding all people who are dear to me as hostages.

Q: Meaning of "I just look out and go" in "Doctors will be, walk a couple of miles every day. And I just look out and go, can't be bothered."

CowperKettleFrom a speech by a depressed man who was told to exercise more: And the doctors will be, just go out and do a couple of mile walk every day. And I just look out and go, can’t be bothered. Can’t be bothered. Because still in the back of my mind, I think, well if I don’t do all this, and don’t get...

@CowperKettle Answered.

@CowperKettle No, he only approves of the storming of the Capitol by murderous white mobs bent on overthrowing democracy, not of peaceful civil rights protests by unwhites.

I drove across Nebraska yesterday. It was afflicted by deadly heat, never dropping below 100 until right before nightfall. At its worst it was 108, but mostly around 105.
Nebraskans are obviously all great readers. It sometimes seemed like in every single-occupant vehicle I passed, the driver was looking down into his lap as though reading some paperback novel.

@Robusto Thank you! That was really hard to understand. Once I finished writing the question, an idea occurred to me that it was reported speech. "And I just (reply to the doctor): *look out and go, can't be bothered". But that did not explain the look out part.

@CowperKettle Yeah, some colloquial uses can be hard to fathom.

@CowperKettle There "look out" pairs with the doctors saying to "go out".
Like "out" is some place where these things can, or cannot, happen.

The Q is from chemistry but about the sentences meaning.
Here. If we notice the statements of Q15.
Pressure is increased to 1 and a half and temp is increased by 1/3 of Abs.Temp.
So , 1st one means because of ‘to’ that pressure value is changed from 1 to 1+1/2. For temp , it is increased ‘by’. Therefore 1/3 of absolute temp(Defined as 273) + Temperature at initial value in Q which is 273K
Am I right ?

Katanin is a microtubule-severing AAA protein. It is named after the Japanese sword, katana. Katanin is a heterodimeric protein first discovered in sea urchins. It contains a 60 kDa ATPase subunit, encoded by KATNA1, which functions to sever microtubules. This subunit requires ATP and the presence of microtubules for activation. The second 80 kDA subunit, encoded by KATNB1, regulates the activity of the ATPase and localizes the protein to centrosomes. Electron microscopy shows that katanin forms 14–16 nm rings in its active oligomerized state on the walls of microtubules (although not around...

@CowperKettle To add to what @Robusto said, it's not just informal, it's someone metally transcribing their own speech into words and the way it is written maybe misleading because it is not common to have speech like that in writing (even though it is idiomatic very informal English). " I just look out and go, can’t be bothered. " would be more formally said and then written/punctuated 'I just look out and say "I can't be bothered"'.
It's not a constituent "I look out and go" followed by another independent constituent "can't be bothered". it's "I look out" followed by "(I) go (= say) 'can't be bothered'". It's parsed differently than 'look out and go".

Thank you!
