What is going on
First usernames with Monica and then the Meta post on firing mods

Where are we heading towards?
Seems SE is sinking
I wish it happened to FB

There is a big sign on a building in the center of Yekaterinburg: "Who are we and where are we heading towards?"

1:01 PM
Which reminds me of my favorite animated movie, Rango!
> Who am I? I could be anyone.

1:27 PM
@CowperKettle that is disgusting on every level imaginable. Whoever made it is one sick fuck who belongs behind bars.
@Cerberus on the main site. On any question at all.

1:41 PM
@Gigili I love the score! The movie was alright, could have been better
@CowperKettle We for vendetta?

@RegDwigнt Haha. I don't believe you're serious.
It's a great clip, reflects the overall mood of Putin's regime.

@Gigili It's kinda old news, but I actually hope they took a dent so they would apologize for what they did, but that seems unlikely. If the moderators and the caretakers of a site are taken away, the damage is not immediately visible, but it's going to be gradual and irreversible

The so-called "Русский мир", full of corpses and bombed out buildings.

@RegDwigнt Oof, now I wonder what the song is about
I can't listen to it on laptop

There are innuendos in that video. For instance, the guy playing on the string instrument while bombs are falling on buildings. Russia helped Assad bomb Syrian cities, and after that Putin's dear friend, Roldugin, a cello player, flied to Syria to play there.
Roldugin is one of Vladimir Putin's "cash boxes". He "earned" 2 billion dollars - meaning, he is keeping the money that Putin has stolen from Russians.

1:48 PM
The name sounds like the traditional Santa Klaus of a European country
Rodlo whatever

@M.A.R. The score? Is it a movie or what?

There is a Russian meme in which Paul McCartney is saying "Oh, my, I've only earned $1 billion in my whole career as a guitar player, I should have learned to play cello like Roldugin".

@Gigili No, I mean the soundtrack. Wasn't it Hans Zimmer's?
. . . Yep
@CowperKettle OK OK I'll Google him (?)

No, better spend your time studying chemistry.
No need to collect exorbitant info.
I'm trying to concentrate on C# now ))

@CowperKettle That sounds horrible

2:03 PM
> I got the world jacuzzi and 'Yakuza' confused.

Now I'm in hot water with the Japanese mafia.

@M.A.R. Ah!
@M.A.R. How old is it?

haha because it's true both literally and figuratively

If what I think is happening, is happening, it better not be

@Gigili Two or three months
@Gigili SE becoming yet another American corporate excusing wrong actions with paying back the investors? Well

@Gigili Nothing happened. Or rather, Monica was demoderated, and then a lot of people got angry, but nothing has actually changed since.

2:06 PM
@Mitch Haha

haha!

@Mitch The issue now is really the public defamation, people are way past hoping for re-modding
2

I mean, I will laugh at a door shutting.

Alt-right neo-nazis now take her for some hero, because of how SE distorted the facts, talking to The Register or whatever it was called, so I've heard.
@Mitch haha

@M.A.R. ha!

2:08 PM
Heeeheeeeee
OK now my insides hurt

@CowperKettle it's very much on par with ISIS videos. So fuck everyone who made it, and fuck everyone who likes it.

@M.A.R. That was strange. Makes me wonder who is advising ... um... that person. Or if they actually came up with the idea to publicize it themselves. Very pre-Stalinist.
@M.A.R. Let's not get carried away.

@M.A.R. it's a shit song for twats. Your time is better spend listening to Summer of the Diabolical Holocaust by Darkthrone.

There's better

There's better insides?

2:10 PM
Yeah. Twinkies.
Have you ever had Twinkies?

Only in Zombieland
I much prefer my local sweets
@Mitch Oh and there was this zombie mobile game I was playing that had a joke like "Heh, Twinkies. Not even zombies eat these"

2:42 PM
> A coauthor and I are drafting a letter, and we're not yet sure whom we're going to be sending it to.
Is 'whom' right there?
I'd have thought it should be 'who', or 'and we're not yet sure to whom we're going to be sending it'

@marcellothearcane Surely there's multiple answers already on ELU. But, in short, it's complicated.
It's a transformatin of "We're going to be sending it to him."

So:
1- It used to be "to whom we're we're going to be sending it'
2- That sounds overly formal nowadays. The alternative is:"who we're going to be sending it to" for people who allow the stylistic choice of ending sentences in prepositions (i.e. -not- the New Yorker)

"to who" is considered an error by everybody but people sometimes say it (though it's still an error).

1 hour later…
3:51 PM
@marcellothearcane yes

4:20 PM
> I'm looking for a catchy and nice-sounding word a really nice sounding phrase would although be better than nothing.
Huh?

1 hour later…
5:32 PM
@RegDwigнt I love it
There is a reference to Dmitry Medvedev (the bear in snickers), to Russia's criminal Chief Prosecutor whose surname is Chaika (gull, there's a bird there in the Medvedev scene)
It's a wonderful video, I keep noticing references.
There was a movie titled Chaika about this prosecutor. His sons wonderfully became billionaires on state-funded contracts.
The video, in short, is a critique on the regime.
There's lots of gore but that's like in the American South Park cartoons, it's not meant to be there for gore's sake.
And the blue-coat aggressive guys with automatic weapons are oprichniki, the terror police of Ivan the Terrible.
Blue was the color used by Okhrana, Russian oppressive police deparment that kept people in terror in the 19th century.
Lermontov mentions "blue coats" in his poem.
The Department for Protecting the Public Security and Order (Russian: Отделение по Охранению Общественной Безопасности и Порядка), usually called "guard department" (Russian: Охранное отделение) and commonly abbreviated in modern sources as Okhrana (Russian: Охрана, IPA: [ɐˈxranə] (listen), lit. 'the guard') was a secret-police force of the Russian Empire and part of the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) in the late 19th century, aided by the Special Corps of Gendarmes. == Overview == Formed to combat political terrorism and left-wing revolutionary activity, ...
Oprichnik (Russian: опри́чник, IPA: [ɐˈprʲitɕnʲɪk], man aside; plural Oprichniki) was the designation given to a member of the Oprichnina, a bodyguard corps established by Tsar Ivan the Terrible to govern a division of Russia from 1565 to 1572. == Foundation == Some scholars believe that Ivan's second wife, the Circassian Maria Temryukovna, first had the idea of forming the organization. This theory comes from Heinrich von Staden, a German oprichnik. Maria Temryukovna's brother also became a leading oprichnik. == Oath == Upon acceptance, the new Oprichniki were required to swear an oa...
Okay, here's a non-violent song, I found it yesterday.
In Ukrainian, but it's 90% understandable to a Russian
About a girl who saves for 2 years to buy the best white sneakers

@RegDwigнt Hmm I don't see it.
