The Corners of My Mind

I suppose...it will never be
The way...it never was,
But there was joy,
And there was hope...
Like Star Wars, after Jaws,
But now it’s just...
A bunch of crap
I pay too much to see,
As if Hulu and HBO
Had shat on my TV.

25 August 2019, just another shatty day...

7 hours later…
12:47 PM
Can I vent here? Or will I risk a suspension?
3
Never mind...

1:07 PM
@Mari-LouA Absolutely you can. That's mainly what this place is for.

1:27 PM
@Robusto Not true. Comments can be flagged, and users banned and suspended for blowing a casket. And I have been suspended in the past for much much less. I need to go out and walk and not give a flying **** It will pass.

1 hour later…
2:52 PM
> - I found some bullets and a note in Arabic in your pocket! What are you up to?!
- Actually it's some rectal suppositories and a doctor's prescription.

3:46 PM
@KannE Hooray! I'm not the only poet in the chat now.

The banana
In the papaya
In the iguana
In the zenana
Is in Panama

4:03 PM
@Mari-LouA You should read a few RegDwight messages. You will feel much more confident in venting. Vulgarly, even.
I get why SO might need a professional chat setting because some people might be using it for slacking off at work, but on ELU, it doesn't make sense much.
And the minimum age for participation is 13 anyway.
So, I guess, as long as we're all adults, and no one is chatting on ELU at work, lots of things should be fine here that aren't elsewhere.

5:04 PM
@CowperKettle Actually, you still are the only one, but I can rhyme with "me" and "you" like SNAP! (That was me...snapping...again.)
@Mari-LouA I'm pretty sure this place is for venting... I think you just have to misspell "bad" words. I could be wrong (a 66.6% probability).
@CowperKettle LOL!

@CowperKettle Heh, I can relate
I'm home right now, but should probably remind myself to take a picture of some doctors' handwriting

1 hour later…
6:24 PM
My poem got a star. This is a miracle.

1 hour later…
7:36 PM
@JaspervanLooij Now it got two stars which is kinda fishy

8:02 PM
What do you call a person who will always take the opportunity if it involves money? Example: Someone doesnt have money and has spent $200 already. They have $85 in there wallet still. And I offer to give $20 to them. They always take it. What do you call a person who does that?
@Mari-LouA For the programming and the moderators. The policy tells us that it shall not obstruct speech other than to behave in a orderly fashion. Being suspended for behaving in an orderly fashion is now requiring reviewing, as well as further moderator punishments. So if you get suspended for venting in an orderly fashion I suggest putting in a formal complaint to the site. Which will include a formal review of the moderators that were online during that time.
@Mari-LouA If the moderators or the programming do not follow the policy the programming or moderators are in violation of the policy and are subject to bans, suspension of privileges and other forms of punishment.
So now you know who violates the policy and who knows the policy and follows it.

8:22 PM
Wow.

1 hour later…
9:29 PM
@Mari-LouA: And I've been suspended from here more than once. And always by mods seeking to settle (apparent) scores with me.
I'm still here, btw. And where are they? Not here no mo'.
I got three downvotes yesterday, all on questions, all within a minute of each other. Chickenshit vendetta, I say. "Take that!," they were no doubt thinking. "I'll show that son of a bitch by cutting his rep score down by 0.004%!!!"

@TannerSwett Indeed not.
Writing mostly spread from the Near East, and it took ages.

9:53 PM
@Cerberus Hey, what is the correct pronunciation of Tacitus? Hard "c" or soft?

@Robusto I'm fine now. There should be a place where you can just let off steam and swear without worrying about offending anyone's sensibilities.
It's not here, unfortunately.

@Mari-LouA Yeah. We fuckin' do all that shit right here. No, really.

@Robusto In classical Latin, C was always hard like K.

@Mari-LouA But glad to hear you're ok now.

@Robusto Poop!

9:54 PM
ta.

What happened?

@Cerberus That's what I thought. But every-fuckin'-body nowadays pronounces it Tassitus.

@Robusto Well, that would be French pronunciation.

Oh, the French.

@Cerberus I mean anytime I hear it. Ever.

9:55 PM
It's not necessarily wrong; it's just not the way the Romans did it.

@Robusto Oh. yeah. That's true.

@Robusto In English, or in what languages?

@Mari-LouA BTW, sorry I got rude to you in comments that one time, which I can't remember. I should have vented in chat, the way I'm supposed to.

No one (in the US) says 'Yooleeus Kye-sar'

@Cerberus In English. I mean, I think I've even heard Oxford dons using the soft c.

9:57 PM
There might be an English tradition to pronounce Tacitus the French way, but I have no idea.
It should be noted, though, that the French way is otherwise quite common English.
Consider names like Cecil and Caesar.

But ... why? You'd think Cicero was a suburb of Chicago the way they pronounce it with two soft sibilants.
@Cerberus That's where the Germans got it right: Caesar -> Kaiser

My guess would be that English mostly adopted the French pronunciation at some point, as did Holland.

Ah. That would be a good question. Maybe I'll ask it on the site and you can answer it.

@Robusto Yes, but that was presumably before the pronunciation of the C began to change in later Latin.

Provided you do a little more research.

9:59 PM
Who know, I might.
Or I might not.
A bit too hot and tired at the moment.

You poor doggy.
And, of course, you think of yourself as Kerberos while the rest of everybody thinks of you as Serberus.

It depends on my mood.

So you have hard-C and soft-C moods?
Tell you what, you do the research first and when it's ripe give me a yell. I'll ask the question then, and you can plug it in before Sven Yargs gets a hold of it.

@All Members: A policy is a legal contract between the users and the company. Company being SE. Moderators usually have a single color or mono emblem figure.

Noted.

10:04 PM
@All Members: But moderators take VERY GOOD NOTE that just as the legal contract (we know as policy) is law abiding. That also means any violation is a violation of the law. Which will or could be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Including but not limited to fines or jail time.
The law states that any foul language aimed towards another person and is intended to harm is illegal. And is punishable at minimum to 60 days in jail. With the $500-2,000 fine. I personally hunt down these types of people for fun. And I track them while bringing justice.

Anyway, gotta run. People are talking jail time and that will put me off my food.
Bai!

@ScientistSmithYT I don't think so.

@Cerberus Look at how the company got the contract.

@ScientistSmithYT Hilarious.
I would never sign any contract with a foreign company.
There is no contract.

@Robusto Don't worry. As long as you follow the policy and obide by it nothing can happen.

10:07 PM
@ScientistSmithYT I actually think you may have missed footnote 76, which clearly prescribes capital punishment.
And you have only a single head, so better watch out.

@Cerberus You don't have to. Your browser automatically signs it because you have it set up that way. Sometimes a notification will pop up about that asking you about it.
@Cerberus Describe the footnote 76 for me? Which one are you referring to?

@ScientistSmithYT Are you sure my browser knows how to falsify my signature? I hadn't heard about that update.
@ScientistSmithYT Oh, the one about capital punishment. I haven't got it on me at the moment.

@Cerberus I wasn't leaning towards saying your browser falsifies your signature. I am meaning to say it takes your real IP then traces it. After that it then it records it and asks your browser if you have already agreed to an automatic signature. If so it accepts it, if not it displays a prompt for you.
@Cerberus I guess this term got misconstrued. By hunt I meant basically find them (VIA a digital address) and report them to the authorities. I don't go killing any one. That's murder.

@ScientistSmithYT Well, an automatic signature is a contradictio in terminis. And agreeing to sign isn't signing either.
@ScientistSmithYT It's not murder when it's in accordance with the law.

@Cerberus That is true. But I want it to be clear I don't go killing people. Now if I was trained and was a military executionar I would hate my job.

10:18 PM
@ScientistSmithYT But you like your job as a civilian executioner.

@Cerberus No. Because I don't execute civilians.

But you do like your job as a civilian executioner when you get to execute soldiers?

@Cerberus I report what needs to be reported. For example: Lets say someone decided to steal your identity or even make a false claim against you. I basically track the IP address down which is linked to the location. Then I report the location and everything else to the authorities.
@Cerberus And no I wouldn't. I would hate it.

@ScientistSmithYT And is that your job?

@Cerberus I will be honest with you. I see the twisting of words you're using. And I'm not going with that flow. Sometimes twisting words around can get someone to make a mistake. Or it can also be used to by time.
@Cerberus I'll be direct with you on that. Sorry.

10:26 PM
@ScientistSmithYT A mistake like which?
@ScientistSmithYT Hmm not answering is a novel approach to directness.

@Cerberus Twisting words around is used a lot to manipulate how a person reacts to things. It can be used also to make someone confused. Which makes them more prone to making a mistake. This is what a detective does.

Am I a detective?

@Cerberus A mistake like which is arbitrary. And this is where it ends. Usually things get out of control when someone asks multiple questions. Which will throw off the receiving end. So I'll stop you right there. And this is how you stop yourself from getting caught in something. Learn and learn then use what you've learned. This is a great example. Thankyou Cerberus for helping me on this experiment.

Oh, you stop me? How?
I didn't know there was an experiment.

@Cerberus Thanks.
Now if someone tries to manipulate you, now you all know what to do. Do not fall into manipulation. This has been a teaching from your fellow dude teaching you how to protect yourself against words. From me to you, I hope we've learned something today. That being to not give in to manipulation. Words in today's day and age have all sorts of meanings which makes them harmful if used improperly.

10:41 PM
Scary.

This is why words have so much power. Sometimes depending on what is said they can be used to make you poor, or even lose your home. Other cases it can be used to do worse, such as black mail you. Which black mailing someone is very common today.
This is a skill I've been learning about a lot recently and the methods behind it. I wanted to find a chat room about languages. As they have to do with language arts.
Now here's the disclaimer I have to give... This will be a little long but not very long.

It is typical of the Abrahamic religions to see supernatural power in words.

Everything said throughout this test was said to amaze the audience. All words said may or may not have been factual. All information given is mostly factual. The after test statements are all true. This is a test/experiment. Any and all interactions are not weitten down nor recorded. Only tones are recorded in this test.
To find the factual information said throughout this test consult your local lawyer for more information. Again this is a real test. The main question I wanted answered was "How do people react when confronted and manipulated and do they notice it?".
Thankyou for being a patient and great audience. For your specific results you can email me at scientistsmithyt@gmail.com . Thank you for your anonymous participation.
@Cerberus The test is officially over. Eveything said after this point is not scripted.

Interesting.
Who was manipulating whom?
I must have missed that.

I was manipulating the two people in the chat room. 1 is you and the other is Robusto. I could have ended up manipulating more people all they have to do is send the first mesage and they are stuck. Unless they know how to get out.

10:57 PM
Gosh, I had no idea.
I thought we were just having fun.

If all 5 people sent a message I could have manipulated all of them. But its kind of like fishing. Once you've got the fish on the hook its hard for that fish to get away. Unless that fish can find a way to get unhooked.

I didn't know I was trying to get away.
Oh, how poor Robusto musn't feel.

I guess my experiment taught everyone something today. Including me. But I hope what everyone learns is to keep there guard up just enough to see something like that coming.

I didn't really see any manipulation, I must confess. Where was it?

I feel bad for Robusto. Hey when he gets back on ping me and I'll see it. I want to talk to him. Telling him how sorry I am for him. But these kinds of experiments are the kind where once you get started you cant stop until its finished.

11:03 PM
Poor, old Robusto.
I'm sure he's shattered.

It was a form of manipulation that triggers emotions, changes how people respond and also gets them to eventually do what you want. It was also targeted to trigger people in a way that makes them sort of impulsive. Usually you'll find that this kind of manipulation can get people to do things that even they don't want. Sometimes it can be worse than black mail.
I stopped right where things would usually escalate into a realm where your stuck. Right where I stopped is where your last chance to get out of it is.
There are o the chances at different levels but they are not easy at all to get out of.
@Robusto Hey, could you come back online and read what I've posted on the chat? This was an experiment. And I've posted the disclaimer.
@Cerberus Hopefully he's ok.

Oh, dear, so we were almost lost beyond all hope.
What things did we do that we didn't want to do?

Well I said that this type of manipulation can get people to do things they don't want to. In my test I didn't get that far because I stopped it before it got to that point. So I didn't make you do things you didn't want to in this test.
I hope I demonstrated that words and the ways they are used can hurt if used improperly. I also hope I've taught what to do to get out of it. I had a friend fall victim to manipulation and it took a hurricane to get him out. So I started to study this stuff any time I had time. Because I wanted to see it coming for others and for myself. So now you can see I take my learning on this very seriously.
I would like to know (If your willing to share) what you learned out of this? If your not willing to share that's ok with me.
