I'm not a Polish speaker, so I don't know how terrible that sentence sounds.

Also, "płakał" is "cried (shed tears)," not "cried (shouted, yelped)."

Huh, Wikipedia has a very interesting translation of the opening of Beowulf.

It's essentially just the original text with each Old English word replaced by its Modern English descendant—or what its descendant would be, if it doesn't have one.

There are also content words added, like "of" and "did."
