8:00 PM
But wevs.
Slow and steady wins the race.

The Matrix never won any awards.

I'm not sure if the sequels did.

they had to give back any awards from the first one.

They did some technical stuff that was groundbreaking. Don't forget there's like 500 Oscar categories for that alone.

Best kernel panic in an action-adventure.

8:02 PM
@Mitch they should do the reverse with LotR. The first movie got virtually nothing, and the last one got like 13. It should be exactly the other way round.

. . . Next . . . You millennials or however you're called have watched every Nicholas Cage movie ever.

Anyway. I only just realized tomorrow's not Saturday.

Heh.
Well, for me LotR 3 is better.

@M.A.R. I've watched many more of them than I care to count or admit.
Even City of Angels.
But I have not watched every single one, no.

LotR visually was about the same as the Transformers except instead of shards of metal robots exploding, it's pieces of orc and hobbit.

8:03 PM
Mandy is still on my list.
I've heard good things.

That recent one?

I've heard good things about Cage specifically in it, too.

@M.A.R. There are a lot of them. Lots of mafia debts to pay off.

Me too. Meh

@RegDwigнt Is that good or bad?

8:04 PM
@The Matrix effects were done on FreeBSD, which I was running at the time, so I liked that.

@M.A.R. I like #3 because of the explanation of the calendar and the writing and the synopsi... oh.. that's the books.

Anyway. I have to go before we start talking about Russian or German or French or Italian movies because then I'll just never stop talking until I die of malnourishment.

Can you get a Farsi translation of LotR there?

@Mitch it's good because I can pull a random stop to the conversation. It's bad because I have to work tomorrow.

@Mitch Sure. Not on TV though. And whatever the TV shows is over censored crap anyway.
I've talked about it before.

8:05 PM
@Xanne -really-?!

A two hours and half movie gets cut down to an hour and half. It's not about censorship anymore, even.

@M.A.R. I meant the books.

Two out of every five minutes in the movie are not there.
@Mitch Sure again
Wait.

@Mitch Really which?

@M.A.R. what is it about then? The advertising?

8:06 PM
Not so sure.

@M.A.R. I remember watching Killing Zoe on TV. The original movie is like only 80 minutes already. The TV version was less than 60 because they had to cut out the last scene.
But I have to stop. Goodnight gents.

@Mitch Being the old farts that they are, they have no concept of a movie longer than 90 minutes.
It's not about PG-13 stuff anymore. Not kisses or cleavage.

@Xanne The Matrix. On FreeeBSD. I wouldn't have expected all the effect tooling was *nix compatible.

They censor random scenes because why not.
@Mitch Persian seems so distant from English I don't ever enjoy the few translations that I have available
Or maybe they're too contemporary?

@M.A.R. 90 minutes is a long time. LotR has a lot that can be cut too.

8:08 PM
A recent example is Hawking's books.
@Mitch Not when it gets nonsensical.

@Yes, they had a bank of pc’s running.

@M.A.R. Oh. Well, maybe it's just poor editing.
@Xanne and 1995 is like a long time ago.
(In my head 1995 is 5 years in the future, so I have to act like it's 25 years later.)

One other thing is the feeling of being invaded by the English language so the translators that don't give a damn suck and the ones that do give a damn develop weird tastes, like reviving words from ancient Persian, to the degree that I feel more comfortable reading the English version
Which makes me wonder, despite not having any access to anyone speaking English fluently except my ESL younger brother, I think I'm a better writer in English now than in Persian.
So I dunno why I'd make that comparison. I'm probably as familiar with English as I can get with any language. That's not to say there are not at times big holes.

NOW YOU GET WHY IT"S ANNOYING ON ELU WHEN PEOPLE ANSWER AN swr WITH A WORD THAT EVEN PEOPLE FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO THOUGHT WAS FOR TEACHER'S PETS.

. . . That'd automatically fill up themselves if I were exposed to an exclusively English environment.
Something as simple as buying simple stuff from a store.
"Are they really called Cheetos?" and so on.

8:14 PM
Wait...they are called 'Cheetos'.
The fiery-hot ones are really good.

Alright, I think I'm done browsing Reg's movie-watching history for now.
Reg has a weird taste, as if that needed confirming.
We seem to agree on some controversial movies so much (even the same rating out of 10) that I wonder if he's my lost brother if this was a Bollywood movie.
And he has rated high some movies and rated down others that, as I said, seemed pretty inconsistent with his peculiarly strong agreement on most other movies
Well, tastes. If we agreed 100 percent, then one of us might have as well not existed.
A wise guy once said that.
I dunno who said that. So it might be me.

@Mitch The Matrix was 1999. MS Windows could not yet compete. Maybe something on DEC/VAX could. But otherwise ‘nix, one version or another. FreeBSD was available for Intel pc’s in 1995.
And many mainframes were running ‘nix. IBM, HP, Berkeley, SUN OS were all ‘nixes.
Or had ‘nix versions.

@Xanne Maybe I'm just thinking of the laugh line in Jurassic Park (1995) about 'Hey this is Unix, I can do this'

8:29 PM
Well, that was a mainframe, I think.
And ‘nixes are a lot alike in shell commands.

1 hour later…
9:57 PM

That's an American called Rose Sarah alright.
@Reg maybe an opinion we share that most don't is your rating of the Star Wars movies. Or I dunno, what else is it you're looking for?
It's already pretty hard for two random guys on the internet to agree so much on movie taste. Your taste is a bit grimmer than mine though. Maybe when I get to your age I'll be the same
