@Robusto well, last night I actually discovered a video on their channel where the player discusses the piece. It's only 5 minutes, and he only touches on legato markings very briefly, but it's an interesting watch.

9:12 AM
@Cerberus should also go watch it, because it's in Dutch and I hear he's trying to learn that language?

@RegDwigнt That might clear up any ambiguity in @CowperKettle's 'hot girl butt' poem.

@RegDwigнt I am hiking this week and will look when I get home. I did want to address dynamics with you, which are virtually nonexistent on the baroque flute, but conspicuous in their absence. The repeated lines sound strange without the customary terrace dynamics.

Q: What is the appropirate state of this question regarding feminizing girls?

TonepoetIs there any verb for making a girl more girly? is closed, but I am having difficulty placing my finger on just why that is. I am not suggesting that it is a great question, but it does seem to meet the bare minimum requisites of the website. Regarding Research The first three close votes were ...

I could cast the fifth and final vote to re-open it now, but I am withholding it for now, since I'm legitimately seeking some feedback and nobody provided an answer to my meta-question yet. Does anybody have any objections?

@Mitch I used the word "tights" in it, I guess it's not Latin )))
> c. 1400, tyght "dense, close, compact," from Middle English thight, from Old Norse þettr "watertight, close in texture, solid,"
> Sense of "drawn, stretched" is from 1570s; meaning "fitting closely" (as of garments) is from 1779;
My poem was deleted in Literature SE chat as too lascivious and provoking.
They said it made them uncomfortable.

@CowperKettle What poem?

3:27 PM
@CowperKettle Maybe their caleçons are too tight.
Personally with poetry, like lyrics, I blank out on meaning. I'm spending most of my time checking that the rhyme works out.
Only years later I finally sort through all the words and singing the mindless lyrics out loud do I realize that OMG was that what they were talking about? Walk on the Wild Side I thought was about going on a long car ride and having fun, eating soul food and going to a show at the Apollo.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ right above Faerd's wiki link about The Israeli New Historians.

@Mitch Oh, figures. It's an image.

I'd transcribe it but that would take actual work.
typing and stuff
And I suppose it is lascivious and provoking.

Hang on, I've got an idea

Oh no, you don't have the idea...
First line:
> Oh when a pretty girl like her

@Mitch Yeah, I swear it was right here

3:36 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I posted it on ELL SE

ends with:
> faster than sticking plaster.

Just after I compose a poem, I can't restrain myself and post in all over the internet.
A freshly composed poem looks ideal to me.
After a day or two I notice some blemishes.

@CowperKettle You probably shouldn't given the reaction on Literature. They may be uptight, but if they think it's bad, then at least you have a hint that maybe not appropriate everywhere.

@CowperKettle Is that you Bob Ross

ELU (and SE) has a 'think of others' trend. and since the poem's subject matter is a bit objectifying of a particular woman, it might not be appropriate here. Elsewhere, go wild. But here, probably not.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Is Bob Ross the painter with the frizzy afro?

3:41 PM
@Mitch Yeah I call them mic heads. Not to be confused with, nevermind.
They're usually nice people.

Why 'mic'?

Because it looks like a mic

Do you mean short for 'microphone'?

Oh, funny, but that is pronounced like "Mike", not like "Mick" (because that's how the first syllable of microphone is pronounced)

3:43 PM
I know

It doesn't rhyme with 'dick'
if that's where you were going.
with "Not to be confused with, nevermind".

Yeah
Still.
The other spelling is "mike", I don't pronounce "mike" like "ick".

None of the words of the poem are anywhere near lascivious.
Maybe 'hindmost'.

You're being terribly inconclusive

but that's pretty euphmistic.

Q: Is there a connection between Darwin & Communism?

Jacob BlausteinThis site makes the claim, and thus proposes that actual good ideas from Soviet Scientists, like the Primordial Soup theory should be discounted. The 2nd (and most significant) element of Darwin’s instant success has to do with politics. Even more so than money, politics can be the most corru...

Heh, people actually believe this crap over there?
Wait, nevermind. I just recalled things people believe over here

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ 2nd line: "wears pretty tights to run". I think that sets up the rest of the poem pretty well.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ THink of the weird things that people believe in between.

@Mitch People in Atlantis actually believe normal humans are born with gills, not genetically modified. HAH HAH, who believes that.

Exactly.

And they call that chip thing an organ.

Even though the site is ostensibly about questioning conspiracy theories, isn't it on topic on Skeptics.SE to ask about weirdo theories?

3:54 PM
@Mitch It should have a clear claim it's challenging.

Anyway, I thought that the Soviet Union in the fifties was a little backwards with respect to evolution because of Lysenkoism

The quoted part is high grade pseudo profound bullshit, with loads of rhetorics and stuff

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Oh. OK. It just posted a paragraph and asked "Hey, what about this?" ?
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ the 'stuff' part s the worst.

Undigested cellulose

And don't know what you availability of this is there, but I listen to the "Skeptics Guide to the Universe" podcast.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Um, that's called 'fiber'.
or 'roughage'
good for 'intestinal' health.
or rather for intestinal health.

3:58 PM
To me associating Darwin and communists is like associating Dracula and Frankenstein.
. . . Shoot. People actually did that. Facepalm
@Mitch Not when it's outside the body

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ the ceullulose or the intestines?
outside the body that is.

@Mitch Have you watched Saving Private Ryan recently?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Yeah. They're in the same fictional universe. Like Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Recently, no.
It's a big deal for tomorrow though.

Well, I guess technically if they take a sample for colonoscopy you do have some intestinal thingies outside your body.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Well technically, the waste water treatment plant near my home has quite a bit of my personal intestinal flora setting up shop remotely.
I mean, good for them. I wish them well in their future endeavors.
But the chlorine will kill them off pretty quickly.
So as to endeavors, they're screwed.

4:08 PM
@Mitch They can die like chicken or die fighting, at least
Thinking about intestinal microbiome kinda gives me identity crisis
It's estimated, I read somewhere, that 43 % of the entire cell count of a human body is co-existing bacteria and protists
Or maybe just bacteria. I forgot
Point is, at most, what you consider you is only 57 % you.

4:28 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I find that a bit extreme. I'm not sure how those numbers are calculated. I think it would be a good question for you to ask at Skeptics.SE.

K, I might

Until your intestinal flora invade your nervous system, specifically your brain, you shouldn't worry about identity.
What you perceive as your personal consciousness is merely the byproduct of your literal nervous energy in the totality of you brain.
When the worms eat into it - that's when you should reassess your perception of self.

@Mitch IIRC actually the study that made that claim (or some medical news channel, I forgot) also mentioned roughly that the microbiome's 'welfare' does affect some mental stuff.

Directly? Of course it affects mental status indirectly. If you have to run to the toilet every five minutes, you can't just travel any old place.

Yes, there are very interesting studies.
Microbiome affects mental state, a flurry of studies have been published recently.

4:40 PM
@Mitch It'd be extremely boring if that's what their meant. Anyway, I have to search for it, since self-evidently my memory is fuzzy

All sorts of stuff in the rest of the body affect mental status directly (hormones eg). But yes, the gut doing so is not expected, and aliens in our gut even moreso.
But frankly, how weird do things get when you take an antibiotic that kills everything in your gut? I mean weird other than the bathroom frequency.

5:00 PM
@Mitch They're more resilient than you think, I think.
P.S. I don't think even the majority is in the guts

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ oh.
Topologically, 'in your gut' is not really inside the body. Topologically.
It's just the hole in the donut.

Yeah that too.
I think most donuts consider that space to be them too.
I need to ask the next one.
Before I claim its existence, that is.

2 hours later…
6:45 PM
@Mitch bbc.com/news/health-43674270 It's actually even less it seems
I gotta try that link with a VPN. BRB

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I read it. It's just repeating claims. It sounds like horseshit to me. There's no attempt to address the obvious that it seems like there is quite a bit of human and the non-human is pretty invisible. If the non-human is going to have a high cell-count, those cells have to be extremely small in comparison to human cells.

@Mitch That is indeed the case, but yay, that means I'm going to ask on Skeptics.
Bacteria are usually 1/10 to 1/100th of a normal human cell in each dimension. That's a thousandth to a millionth of the volume

7:07 PM
@Mitch

A: Do we have 10 times more microbes than human cells in our body?

Jack AidleyNo, we do not. Although this figure is widely cited (as per Oliver_C's answer), it is based on rather old data (paywalled, unfortunately), and these estimates are now thought to be inaccurate. A recent estimate by Sender, Fuchs, and Milo puts it at a close to one-to-one ratio of human to microbi...

So much for repz.

8:03 PM
@Cerberus For their friend, who only speaks french?

8:57 PM
@Tonepoet Yes, how did you know?
Their Portuguese friend.

9:07 PM
@Cerberus Heheh. Speaking of Portuguese, I've just been thinking, do you know where has tchrist been lately, if that is not too prying? It seems strange not to be able to ping such a regular fixture in chat.

No, I don't know, he has been absent a lot, of late.

@Cerberus Okay, thanks for the answer.

But he was online 8 hours ago.
And last time he disappeared from chat this long, he did return at some point.
We can only pray for Tchrist's second coming.
