@JD342 What happens is that individuals who have either built up a good rep score through good contributions (or in rare cases who have been around for a long time getting three downvotes and one upvote for many, many, many years), get to vote to close questions accoding to various criteria. They also have the ability to reopen them too. It takes five votes both ways. So your question might well get reopened. But in any case ...

@JD342 I think it will probably get reopened, but you only have a les than 50% chance of getting any better answers than the ones you already have. You have already contibuted to the useful knowledge available to people looking up info about the word nook - maybe forever! (as much a anything's ever forever)

It was four normal users who have reasonably high rep (for varying reasons) and one overworked mod who got sent over there because there was a lot of activity and a flag (form me - oops, sorry, but it was meant to be helpful). I mean, an online shopping mall company is trying to recruit some users for having an interview and research on their sales and their feeling.
In this situation, they want to give some money for them in return for their interview. What do you call this 'money'? Interview fee? Interview payment?
If someone is the type of person who goes into a situation or conversation and before stepping in thinks of all the different things that could happen and how they would respond.

Just bought a copy of Microsoft Office 2019 today. It was expensive, but I hope it can last a decade or so, lol.

@JD342 Your question is whether "nook" meets your constraints -- appropriate in an informal register, and safe to use without "cranny". The research we'd want to see in such a question is, where did you already look to find an answer, what you found, and why it didn't answer your question -- that is, what are you still in doubt about and why.
You made a good start -- you checked a dictionary and a thesaurus. You could add the name(s) of the works, you consulted, say something about what you found, and say why it left you in doubt.
To post a question in a forum/q&a platform, I do research on that specific website first, to avoid making a duplicate
so there's that
Furthermore, on Google there doesn't seem to be much specific info by simply writing "can nook be used without cranny", you will in fact see my question as first link now
And, since I believe the Stack Exchange platform is full of people smarter than me that know their stuff, posting the question over here would be beneficial for me and everyone
@JD342 The issue isn't whether it's a good question. Closing a question doesn't mean it's been judged a bad question, not necessarily. It means there's something about the question that should probably be addressed before anybody else tries to answer it. Then once the issue is solved, the question gets reopened.

@JD342 Comments have a limited purpose on the Stack Exchange network -- they really are just for offering you, the asker, constructive feedback. A lot of those comments were off track. So they're preserved in the chatroom created for the purpose.
Answers in comments cannot be community edited. They cannot be peer reviewed. They discourage people from posting actual answers. They defeat the core answer ranking process.
And they drive away askers, which means a good answer will probably never get accepted. The usual response to a comment answer is basically "kthanksbai"
@MetaEd I'm kinda going trough popular questions and 90% of comments don't seem to fit very well in the delineations of the help center - which nobody reads anyway
@MetaEd what if you're asking for clarification and in that request for clarification you give what some might consider partial answer but really it's only a request for a clarification?
@JD342 EX-effing_ZACTLY. Most of the comments are worse than trash and chatty crap that do nothing for the question (or answer). And the ones that seem to be deleted, the ones that are these nefarious 'partial answers' are actually substantively on point and helpful to future readers. That is, the ones deleted are the ones (that would have been) the most useful.
@JD342 Yes, true. The community curates the posts as time permits. The same rules apply to every post, but the attention actually paid to individual posts varies from day to day, and the way that volunteers understand and handle each situation varies also. So all curation is necessarily a work in progress.
Sometimes people make the argument that their comment should get a free pass on the grounds that the community has not already perfectly curated all other similar content on the site with complete self-consistency. I take a dim view of that argument.

@Mitch There appears to be some type of debate over this question. I'd love to get into it, but stores are selling things to eat right now. As my daughter said when I tried to buy Play-Doh for my grandchildren--'They can't have it because we're fun-killers'...'Yes, Mom, we really are.' So, just admit it. I'll still love you...probably, but you are what you are. Nooks and crannies are fun.
@Mitch I try to avoid that when I make comments. But sometimes it's unavoidable. A great example is word requests with no research whatsoever. I might offer a link to a reputable dictionary, and that link might more or less answer the question or at least make it unnecessary.
@Mitch which is to say (@MetaEd) that Thomas just didn't believe those other guys. He doubted them not the actual insanity of coming back to life ... oh... good reason to doubt. Also, those guys are always screwing around.

But I do remember that one person—which I recall is you, Mitch—put in the comments section of my question a constructive criticism to MetaEd, telling that my question followed the conventions and is was alright. I remember it started with something like, "@MetaEd I fail to see the closeability of this question..." and had 3 +1's last time I checked.
@JD342 Sure. That's kind of what we want to avoid, though. A discussion or debate is best carried on in chat. Consider that the comment was addressed to me. One sign of a good comment is that it is addressed to the author of the post.

For me, it's like "the bold" started singing 'Oh, she's a jolly good...' and then, for a moment, a camera zoomed in on her besties...shy like in a knowing, happy-for-her way. For example, on a construction site, after the only woman there leaves...does the foreman start calling the men in training "stupid" for making mistakes like cutting a precut stud, for example?
