Flip around some of those "X of the Y" instances into attributive "Y X" nouns or possessive "Y's X" nouns. It sounds much more natural.
"This is the knob of the door of the bedroom of the house that Jack build" gets old fast. :)
It's really just the house's bedroom doorknob.
Germanically speaking.

Q: What do you call someone who is used by people behind the scenes?

HoreelThe true people in power need a pretty face to represent their agenda. What do you call such an empty person ?

It can also be a phrasal verb, for i'm not quite sure if it is a single word. Can you help me? Give me some suggestions, please! Thanks in a...

Q: What's the word for using power in a morally unacceptable way?

DheerajAs we know, some people from the show business have recently been accused of multiple cases of sexual harassment. What would be the precise term for such abuse of power?

@MetaEd Thanks. I think you can also say "I would have liked to have an ice cream (, but didn't because ...)", right? So the irrealis mood doesn't depend on the perfect form of the verb have (an ice cream).
What I meant was something else, but never mind. I kinda got my answer.

Weird. Where's JL?

> 2 The more time that passes the worse he plays.

Did he delete his account again?

Jasper you mean?

What are your other guesses?

I vaguely remember another user by the name JL.
And never known Jasper by this name.
Hell. I don't pay that much attention to peoples screennames.

Do you know everyone's name in this very chat?

Should I?

Can you?

Would I?
Anyway. Jasper's interest in this chat or SE chats in general waxes and wanes.

@Færd Do I care?

You're the one who asked.

Did I direct the question at you?

OK. Have fun. See ya.

Q: "Feedbackable": better word / is it clear?

Michal CharemzaI'm considering creating & using a word in presentation: "feedbackable". This is in a software engineering context. If a code change is highly feedbackable, it means will be used by a lot of people, and so if there's feedback from users (or technology, e.g. overloaded server), it will be given. ...

@Gigili You did BTW:

Do you know everyone's name in this very chat?
@Gigili And please go sniff your nose at kids chatting in other rooms. 'Tis no place for this kind of disdaining behavior.

I believe you don't need any advice, since you already knew better to leave the room after those interesting remarks.

Q: What would you call two or more people who have no stakes in an issue affecting you or many more but are unfortunately the decision makers

AMNWhat would you call two or more incompetent people who have no stakes in an issue affecting you but are unfortunately the decision makers usually like the politicians who take ineffective, sloppy and knee jerk decisions adversely affecting those they have to help.

@Gigili I'd welcome any kind of constructive advice/criticism. You need to be more specific though. And please reply to my messages when you're talking to me; that way the conversation goes on without us having to be present here all the time.

@Færd As I said, my initial question was not directed at you, and there is no conversation. I'd appreciate it if you could get out of my way. It sounds quite weird to me that you insulted me earlier and now you pretend nothing's happened.

@Gigili Your original question wasn't pointed at anyone.
And where did I insult you exactly?
I'd be happy to apologize if I did.
You throw a question into thin air and someone gives a reply without even pinging you and you continue the conversation like he shouldn't even dared to talk to you in the first place, and then you're all kids these days.
This is so childish.
@Gigili If you're so unhappy with me in your way, feel free to ignore me: click on me, and then on ignore this user.
That's it for me today.

Can I have a sentence semantically rely on a parenthetic clause? I've read that parenthetic expressions are embedded as though their absence would not invalidate grammar. However, given a relatively objective context, can I write a parenthetic clause as though its absence would invalidate the meaning and logic of the sentence?
so it is 100% not optional semantically
yet almost as though it is in brackets
I've always held hesitance on doing so because it shows a lack of flow, like you need to explain yourself prior to continuation because you failed to do so earlier. However, having necessary parenthetic clauses can help phrasing.
