8:01 PM
@Cerberus Pardon my interuption
@Mahnax Hi
@Gigili How's life? la la lala lala

It sucks and I'm off to bed.

Hi skull. How are you?

Fine thanks,
and you?

Decent. I'm in English class.

What year?

8:06 PM
10. I'm in high school.

@Skullpatrol What do you mean?

@Cerberus What do you think of the "anonymous pranking" interpretation as part of the definition of trolling?

Eh what does this definition entail exactly?
I don't think "anonymous" is really part of the essential bit.

[[File:Trollface.svg|thumb|right|200px|The "trollface", first appearing in 2008, is often used to indicate trolling in contemporary internet culture. Modern usage of the word itself dates from 1980s.]] In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, , or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll yo...

And pranking sounds a bit too elaborate for internet trolling.

8:11 PM
anonymity is an important part of trolling (or atleast pseudonymity) because the troll believes that they can't be caught
the worst that can happen is a ban of some kind, no offline retribution

How about attending a meeting and asking troll questions?
And how about trolling some people in this chat room whose real names you know?
I would say those can be trollish, despite the arguable lack of anonymity.

@Cerberus it depends on if the person is doing it to the face of the presenter or from the back of the room where they can't be identified

What if I am in the front row, asking silly questions?
On purpose, to make fun of the presenter?

if they can be readily identified, it's not so much trolling as being overtly distruptive
@Cerberus I might call you a troll, but I'd more likely call you something harsher
@Cerberus heckling is like trolling

how about a heckling troll?

8:16 PM
Woo, I got on FB at school. Bonus points.

I just don't think the anonymity is really essential. Of course typical trolling is anonymous; but playful internet trolling, and real-life behaviour that one might call trolling too, I would not consider very anonymous, and yet I might consider it troll-like.

@Mahnax how subversive! Did you have to get around the firewall or somesuch?

I found a dandy little app that does just that.

@Cerberus for me trolling is very much an internet behaviour. I don't think I would call someone a troll offline.
not unless they looked like a troll or asked for a toll
or especially if they were stopping goats from crossing a bridge

@MattЭллен Agreed: it is an internet term.

8:19 PM
@Cerberus I think we could categorize many kinds of toll-like behaviors.

But it is not impossible to use the term in a slightly novel way for real life, is it?
It would be intelligible, a funny kind of comparison with digital life.

@Cerberus yeah. If someone else said it, I would no doubt understand them

Exactly.
And would you say "hmm, the anonymous part is lacking: this use of the word irks me"?

@Cerberus only if they were call me a troll ;)
trolls gonna troll

Hehe.
It might be a compliment.

8:23 PM
cornbreadninja is a good example of an "anonymous" user name for trolling

I need moar food, later!

cya @cerb :D

poof

@Cerberus bye

hey now.

8:25 PM
you know what they say about pots and kettles

they're good for heating water?

and catching mice
well, kettles, not so much

@cornbreadninja Pardon me for using your user name as an example in our trolling disscussion.

do I look like gerald ford? ;)
(I don't)

gerald who?

8:28 PM

@MattЭллен Do you mean by "you know what they say about pots and kettles" that ussually trolls like to call other trolls "You troll?"

@Skullpatrol no, that Skullpatrol is a good example of an anonymous username for trolling

@MattЭллен Only for those who don't know what it means and happen to have trolling on their mind.

and can't see your avatar? wait, is it raiders-related?

yes

8:35 PM
Raiders, aren't they known for fouling a lot?
sound like trolls to me :Þ

the silver and black never retreat and always attack

Not exactly the sort of term I usually search on, lest little tiny armies come and take core samples 'round my hard head.

true

8:40 PM
Matt Эллен: it is common practice among me and my roommates to use Internet terms for IRL situations. Like trolling.

@Andres
uh, woops

I'm out like crystal pepsi.

That... was a thing?
> It would have been nice if I'd made sure the product tasted good.
@cornbreadninja Bai!

@cornbreadninja did you stockpile it in the mid '90s?
oh, wait, nm. i thought you said you're out of crystal pepsi
and i was, like, wow, you must have had some stash of crystal pepsi if you're only out now

8:44 PM
It doesn't sound like anyone would be remotely upset about that either
Like, not unless there was no potable water or something

i loved it back in the day
of course i was in middle school, so i take no responsibility for my actions

@JSBᾶngs driven by hormones and boredom, eh?

@MattЭллен well, you know, those early adolescent hormones really go wild without a bottle of crystal pepsi...

It's surprising so many made it through school in those days.
If we weren't deafening ourselves with MTV, we were getting high on crystal pepsi

I don't even remember it. Teh wiki sez it died in 1993 and I wasn't quite old enough to get much of a say in soda purchases at the time... I recall being allowed to pick out a mixed flat or two of soda cans at the local beer store with my brother, you could mix and match ones that were all the same brand sold in bulk.
That must've been how my dad conned us in to helping bring back the deposit recyclables
Waah what's wrong with these people! Don't they know it's supposed to come in cans?
Wait. Phew. False alarm. The website says it still comes in cans, they just don't have any pictures.

8:50 PM
:D
the cans are shy

Yeah, they don't have any clothes on.

scandalous!

Haha.
@MattЭллен Did you guys have Surge over there?

The tabloids are going to be all over this one.

@aediaλ not that I'm aware of. We didn't have crystal pepsi either, I was just playing along
@Mahnax eugh, what about the cans' rights to privacy? can't they be naked in peace?

8:57 PM
Not in this day and age, I'm afraid.

It's all "in the public interest" this and "freedom of information" that. Well enough, I tell you!
@aediaλ wow. that looks appetising :D

hey guise
did anyone else have shasta?
glad to see Surge was brought up

Surge is practically an iconic representation of middle-high school for me

same, plus PC repair

I don't really have Shasta as a memory even though I'm sure it was sold in my area, because Adirondack Beverages was the only generic brand of soda we had in the house when I was a kid. We would have that and like one box of Coca-Cola, which I didn't drink except when I was sick, because my mom would kill you if you drank the last of it.

9:07 PM
0_0
did you have Vess?

Пушка.

Never heard of it

可口可乐
Vess Soda is a brand of soft drink manufactured and distributed primarily in the St. Louis, Missouri, USA, metropolitan area. The company was founded in 1916. At the height of its popularity, Vess had bottling plants in several locations including Asheville, Lafayette, Anderson and Cincinnati. It is now owned by Cott Beverages. Sylvester Jones was the principal founder, who developed the VESS trademark from his nickname. Whistle Orange Soda was introduced in 1925, with the Vess logo on the other soda flavors. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 left the company in bad financial shape. The ...

Q: Difference between using "a" and "an"

Ola Possible Duplicate: When should I use “a” vs “an”? I just want to ask. What is the difference between using "a" or "an" before words, and when do we use it? Thanks.

Is this some sort of joke?
I don't find it funny.
