@tchrist Good. So he does age.
@MetaEd Perhaps use a better camera for taking selfies? ;)

@MetaEd Yes. I like the diamond. Give me some diamonds for free, lol.
I am trying to record another masterpiece but the sun is not out, so I will need to wait till tomorrow.

Hi guys,
trivial question
is there any good web site, or dictionary in general, that could be a good reference for looking up pharsal verbs?
but indexing "by verb"
for example I was trying to find out all the phrasal verbs that use "stick" as a verb

YOU
Miracles does really happens at nashville
OR
Miracles do really happen at nashville

Which is correct?

@YOU Neither
'Miracles really do happen in Nashville'
the word 'miracles' is plural so use the plural verb 'do'
'really' comes before the verb 'do'
'happen' with 'do/does'
'in' a city not 'at

YOU
1:40 PM
What if Nashville is a place not city?
Miracles Really Do Happen at Nashville!

1:56 PM
@YOU it depends. for a city or county or place like that, it is 'in'.
'Miracles happen in Russia'
but for a flat location, like a sports field, it is 'on'
'Miracles happen on the basketball court'
But what about a particular arena, like Soldier Field in Chicago?
Or the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville?
'Miracles happen at the Grand Ol' Opry'
('at' or 'on' will work for Soldier Field and similar things)

A: What are the review queues, and how do they work?

ManishearthWhat is a "review queue"? Review queues (also known as review tasks) contain posts that possibly need community attention, as determined by the system or other community users. You are shown these posts, one at a time, and you "review" them. Like flagging, there are badges for this. So, what co...

The length of the bat signal count keeps bumping from 2 to 3, and will eventually settle there. Please fix that.
It means that the community are not attending to the review queues in a sufficiently assiduous manner to keep the queues short.

3:44 PM
@tchrist assiduated
the review queues got long real fast in the past couple days. I don't think that is a lack of reviewing but the first assiduous getting-on-the-queue. which is the first VTC, right?

4:06 PM
@Mitch Hi!
@tchrist I would like to ask you if there is a strict rule that word requests must be answered with an explicit dictionary quote. I don't think there is one and I don't think it is necessary to have this rule either. What is the current status?
@Mitch Mariah says there can be miracles when you believe.

4:30 PM
@JasperLoy Oh, I forgot that case. 'Miracles happen with Mariah'
'Syphilis' is just like the salad dressing of ketchup mixed with mayonnaise. In the US, it is known as French dressing, and in France it is known as la sauce américaine. — Mitch 1 min ago
You're all welcome.

5:03 PM
@Mitch And then there's Dutch elm disease, which is American elm disease.
But that sounds like some tasty sauce.

5:19 PM
@MetaEd There's no accounting for taste. I for one would prefer not to put Dutch or American elm disease on my salad.

Strange that both Matt and Kit are not here today.
When clothes take a long time to dry indoors, why is there a bad smell even though they are clean?
I uninstalled the Lenovo Companion, Lenovo Utility, Lenovo System Interface Foundation, and Lenovo Customer Engagement that came with my Lenovo laptop.
I also uninstalled the Intel Trusted Execution Engine and Intel Security Assist because Windows Defender is sufficient for security purposes, I think, and too many programs slow the computer down.
So far, in about three months of use, I have gotten BSOD three times, but it fixed itself. I just manually updated all the drivers using the Windows Driver Manager.

6:15 PM
@Færd Hmm, well, upon referencing Mr. Noah Webster's definition of Comprise I would have to agree that it's malformed, since apparently comprise is closer to comprehend or contain, when what people mean by "comprised of" is closer to made from. I think the problem is that people confused the word "comprise" with "compose" since they're similar in pronunciation and spelling.

6:31 PM
@Tonepoet Maybe it is Ms Noah Webster and not Mr? lol
I wanted to watch 'Don't knock twice' but it was too scary so I turned it off. I'm a wuss, lol

6:43 PM
@Tonepoet Maybe the problem was that. The tide has turned in the recent decades: goo.gl/kHuOvh .
You might even come across be comprised of in official UN documents now, if they rely on Oxford dictionaries as the authority on English.
Maybe stylistically inadvisable still, yes.

I'd be surprised if they weren't doing that already to be honest.

Language is always changing. It is not meant to be logical or fixed over time.
We cannot treat language like 1+1=2. This is what I learnt.
@Tonepoet What have you been up to?

@JasperLoy If I may contest that a little, I think all words are meant to have a fixed signification. That's what makes them decipherable. People just aren't very reliable.

@Tonepoet But the meanings of words change over time, like hopefully.
Old English changed to Middle English changed to Modern English QED

@JasperLoy The rule runs: "We're looking for long answers that provide some explanation and context. Don't just give a one-line answer; explain why your answer is right, ideally with citations. Answers that don't include explanations may be removed."
