Hwoops déjà dit.
@MattE.Эллен Past Charon.
@crl All Western European languages do. It's just that English has no rrule against stranding like Romance has.
@Mr_Green Actually, you have a question, maybe even a concern. But not a doubt. Doubt is a mistranslation (really a mistaken calque) typical of the Indian subcontinent. Native speakers might have their doubts (PLURAL!) about ghosts or gods or reincarnation, but they only have questions about things they want answers to. If you never again say "I have a doubt" in English, then you will have improved. Honest!!! :)

@tchrist is it a more formal 'bullshit' :))?
yes ok, right, French also have a lot of prepositions, but it's more strict I feel, less natural/flexible than English (where you could even make your own verb + preposition sometimes)

@crl If we consider the tab as the control, then it's just the little rectangle. This also better matches the physical equivalent than calling the whole physical folder the tab.

Can I say " She exchanged farwells with him"?
or She said farewell to him?

@JustynaNogala Perhaps exchanged farewells, though said their goodbyes is far more common.

11:58 AM
I don't understand, what the is is the meaning of "close"? Sometimes it means "exit" and sometimes else it means "near" ..! Two completely different mean, So which one is correct?

@Shafizadeh They're actually different words (with different pronunciations).

interesting

Though, "exit" would be an unusual interpretation of close.

@TRiG yes, but in this context: "pretty close", "close" means "near" ...!

12:10 PM
@TRiG Ah I see. Thx
Are these two sentence correct?
- Happiness is found on the way not at the end of the road. Be happy today.
- How can I be ? :-( My girl friend broked up with me .. I'm at the end of the road !! :-((

@Shafizadeh In some languages (such as Irish), plural markers are not needed directly after a number. English is not such a language, so you need to say Are these two sentences correct?
> Happiness is found on the way, not at the end of the road. Be happy today.
^ I added a comma. I think that's necessary. It certainly aids comprehension.

Ah .. good point :-)

Sorry about your breakup.

And how about second sentence? Is that correct?
@TRiG Thx :-(

They are!
You can ask any question in chat here.
Unless it is about how to murder someone.

@Cerberus Was thinking of you:
I’m not sure which sort of passport you were looking at, given that occupacion is a spelling peculiar to Old French and Middle English. That word is now spelled occupation in present-day French and English; ocupação in Portuguese; ocupación in various “Spanish” languages including Castilian, Asturian, Galician, and Aragonese; ocupació in Catalan; occupazione in Italian; and ocupație in Romanian. All derive from the Latin occupātio, occupātiōnis. — tchrist ♦ 1 hour ago

Hah.
I would hardly notice if you swapped any of those spellings.

The Romanian one I would notice.

5:12 PM
@freebird That's so rude!!

It's also interesting the way Middle English aligns with Old French.

They're late to the game

It raises the obvious question of which Romance tongue corresponds temporally with Old English; Tadpole French, perhaps?

user204373
@Mitch Yep!

@Cerberus You can ask if that's the right way to say it.

user204373
5:15 PM
@Mitch Once someone asked there "How do I make sure the girl I love never leaves me?" One of the highest voted answer was like this "Go near her while having a dinner at your favorite restaurant and say these three magic words: I am armed. She will be yours and will never leave you".

user204373

user204373
No, you can ask that question too.

user204373
You will definitely get upvotes. But pick the right website.

I don't think so, because the answer to it would be enabling someone to ask it, which itself would be a bad thing.

@freebird Yeah, it's basically "In the name of God"

@freebird More likely uncloseted linens.
@PhMgBr The Lord of the Flies no botulism needs.

@freebird The only way I know of it is through the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
@PhMgBr google translate is great for really common translation pairs, but not so great for uncommon pairs. I've heard the Welsh-Tamil translation just can't get tenses right.

user204373
@tchrist "tendention" was one word from yesterday's chat. I had heard the word but wasn't exactly sure what it meant. It was pretty clear form the context though still confirmed by checking the dictionary.

6:10 PM
@Mitch For quite some of the Persian/Arabic translations, it even fails that.

@freebird that's a word? I thought I made it up.

user204373
@Mitch Hah yeah your word exactly :)

@Mitch Why would something you made up not be a word?
I suppose it might be your face instead, but I find this unlikely.

@PhMgBr it's amazing how good it really is given that no rule based grammar is used, just (well, not 'just') ngrams

Mmm, I believe unfair ngrams have also been used.

6:17 PM
@tchrist If I made up my face, it'd be the kind where you could't tell I had make up. It's the 'natural' look.

I hate it when people make up faces to save story.

@tchrist just because I made something up doesn't necessarily make it a thing. thing-like maybe.

@Cerberus I actually was serious. I have an iPhone and heard that they cannot be rooted so I never bothered. Entirely colored by childhood experiences with curiosity in taking apart an old television set, after having physically ripped out parts of it (instead of unscrewing, I got to the bottom of it and found a vacuum that had fallen out of its socket. True story.
@PhMgBr I could answer that, but it would only hurt you.

Also, those South Asian scripts are crazee. It's so obvious one guy invented one alphabet, and a guy in the next state saw it briefly and thought they'd make up one too -totally- independently. worries about going to the dentist
also mowing the lawn. early spring has its dowsides
waking up in the morning is a drag
There that's what I really think.
Ooh forgot one.

@Mitch Then kick off your high heels and shed that old frock before you hit the hay.

finite numbers, like 'three' and 'seventeen' are operationally existent just like other attributes like 'red' or 'door, making mathematical concepts platonic realities as much as sensations
well, neo-platonic. Plato was kind of an jerk/authoritarian
So there, those are my thoughts.. See? you didn't want to know them.
well, the dentist thing is kinda useful.

@Mitch Blow no trumpet of numberless infinities lest so many souls to their scattered bodies go.

Waking the dead. Unless by scattered you imply that individual bodies are not in together piece. then that's kinda gross

> At the round earth's imagin'd corners, blow
Your trumpets, angels, and arise, arise
From death, you numberless infinities
Of souls, and to your scatter'd bodies go;
All whom the flood did, and fire shall o'erthrow,
All whom war, dearth, age, agues, tyrannies,
Despair, law, chance hath slain, and you whose eyes
Shall behold God and never taste death's woe.
But let them sleep, Lord, and me mourn a space,
For if above all these my sins abound,
'Tis late to ask abundance of thy grace
When we are there; here on this lowly ground
'T is not too late to seek a newer world
Push off
and sitting well in order
smite.
I was feeling ok this morning until I got verse.

@Shafizadeh That means that she's telling him she's cutting him off from any more of something, probably alcohol but maybe sex.

I see

My guess is booze.
Could be other types of drugs, or anything really.

yeah I guess you are right

11:26 PM
in other words, if you cut something off you remove it from what it had a connection with, so saying you're "cut off" means no more for you
get lost

Good explanation.
