Funny.
Yeah, benzine.
The title is wrong, though.
@Cerberus How Gasoline is called?
What petrol is called.
@Xanne *benzene but ding.
@Xanne What essence is called then.
12:31 AM
And what do we call diesel?
I wonder why Iberia says gasoline.
I mean, it is not a gas, where is the logic in that?
Is benzene diesel?
I think diesel is probably a type of diesel?
@Cerberus They say gasolina.
But why?
12:32 AM
@Cerberus I would go for that!
In practice, we differentiate between bezine and diesel as two types of combustive car fuel.
@Xanne Err oops!
*diesel is probably a type of benzine
@Cerberus Why not. We call diesel gazole in French, and Diesel is the kind of engine that uses it.
Can someone teach me how to type properly?
@jlliagre Hmm why gazole?
It's a frenchified gas-oil.
@jlliagre I always assumed diesel was from a proper name.
12:34 AM
i once used diezel instead of benzene—it worked fine.
@jlliagre But why gas?
@Cerberus It is, the name of the guy who created the eponymous engine.
@Cerberus Because it is volatile?
and flammable like a gas?
But it's not that volatile?
Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel (English: , German: [ˈdiːzl̩] ; 18 March 1858 – 29 September 1913) was a German inventor and mechanical engineer who is famous for having invented the Diesel engine, which burns Diesel fuel; both are named after him. == Early life and education == Diesel was born at 38 Rue Notre Dame de Nazareth in Paris, France, in 1858 the second of three children of Elise (née Strobel) and Theodor Diesel. His parents were Bavarian immigrants living in Paris. Theodor Diesel, a bookbinder by trade, left his home town of Augsburg, Bavaria, in 1848. He met his wife, a daughter ...
And many things solid and liquid are highly flammable?
1:00 AM
@Cerberus Maybe not gas after all but Cazeline.
but a comment states: I find this Cazolene/gasolene connection dubious, since John Cassell was English and, as far as I can tell, never sold his oil in the US, but rather imported it into the UK. As you say, John Boyd was Irish and selling his similarly named oil in Ireland. Both England and Ireland use the term 'petrol', so why would Americans decide they have to use the term Gazolene or gasolene to avoid any trade mark enfringement, for a product not sold in the US?
Oh, it's all about America.
I wouldn't expect Spain to use a brand name from Ireland either.
Meanwhile, I think I am still in Wednesday's game.
Oh, the game switched to another day when I input my guess.
@Cerberus Etymonline says: from gas (n.1) in its then-popular loose sense of "compound of gases used for illuminating and heating purposes;"
I was wondering about Spain.
@Cerberus I guess they just spanishified(?) gasoline.
@Cerberus Set your timezone to Honolulu and you'll have plenty of time to complete it.
Why?
1:14 AM
Because WhenTaken uses your local time to switch from one day to the next one.
@Cerberus Assuming the why was replying to my second sentence.
This was about Wednesday's game.
I restarted the game, and now in the 4th one the map doesn't work.
Oh, I overlook you wrote Wednesday.
Ah, OK.
I tried to pick the same things I picked Wednesday, for the first three photos.
And now the map is not working any more.
@Cerberus Try that.
Not sure what you mean, but that is of course the URL I am already at.
1:23 AM
Sometimes the map fails to load or is incomplete when I have connection issues.
Good to know.
Ha ha, I just replayed Wednesday game and I scored axactly the same that when I played it the first time. Different errors though, but they exactly compensate each other.

I was proud to locate #3.
Which one was that?
@Cerberus West New Guinea protest.
Right.
I remember walking around in the most obvious place, not finding the location.
Then decided it must be in a different place, also considering the language.
You were close but not there. Which place did you pick?

@jlliagre Hmm what was in 3?
Still a good score.
It seems I got my years really close, but I don't remember at all what most were about.
@Cerberus Wisconsin's Capitol.
I think one was in front of the Rijksmuseum for a very specific demonstration.
@jlliagre Ah, yes.
But I think the name Wisconsin was in the photo?
Yes, I just don't know what random city each American state has chosen as capital.
Ahh OK.
Wasn't it the biggest city?
If you search long enough, you may be able to find the capitol building on the map.
@Cerberus I picked Milwaukee, looks bigger on the map.
7:19 PM
Ah, OK.
Not sure if you played that one, sorry for spoiling.
I didn't see it.
I have just zoomed in on the map of Milwaukee, couldn't find a capitol building.
In Madison, it is very easily found.
Yes, I could have spend more time on that one.
7:25 PM
But it may not be as easy to find in all cities.

Is that^ a valid correction?

Both.

@jlliagre It's not totally random. You can almost always rule out the biggest, most well-known city in each state except Boston and Atlanta...and maybe some other exceptions that I can't remember because yeah it's pretty random.
Why do the humans get top billing in the Olympics Equestrian events?

The horse is doing all the work and has all the talent.

The rider is just... there for the ride.
And what is with the names of horses at the Olympics (and I presume at other competitions)?
Glamourdale
Sertorius De Rima Z
Jagerbomb
Winsome Andante
Baloubet du Rouet
Don't disrespect the horses by giving them outlandish 1930's burlesque stage names.
OK Fine, give the riders goofball names too like
