@M.A.R. I hope your treatment works for you. Do you need to look for a kidney transplant? Again, I think you are being very brave. Talk to you later.

Q: Would I have any relation to parent's ex-step children?

QuestingMy parent was previously married and during that marriage had two step-children. Has since divorced that person, but we refer to those "ex" step-children as my step-brothers since we do still see them. Inaccurate? Better phrasing?

Q: I'm looking for a word that means both sad and proud

anonThe sentence goes- "Yes. Yes, it is," she replied ______. The blank being where the word would go.

I composed a birthday greeting for a friend
> I love to hear your cheerful chat, my dear,
So let your birthday be awash with cheer!
Warm greetings on this day, and let your eyes
From lavish gifts grow bigger in their size.

Q: Duplicates on meta sites - sum the votes

AdelinDuplicates are there mostly to tell us that a question was already asked and, in some cases, it also has an answer and to link to this question. While this is great for main sites, on meta it's a bit trickier. We know that on meta we: discuss various topics propose various features ask for su...

Q: A word for "good state of the world"

Ohad Dan Having multiple theories is not necessarily a good state of the world. (naively, one might have thought that abundance of theories is good; but in reality, multiple theories means it is not clear which one is appropriate to apply in case of need) Is there a single word or phrase that coul...

Per my original question, I wrote the following:
> First, note that few things in India can be relied on. Unfortunately
cell phone networks is not one of those things.
But "cell phone networks" is plural, not singular, so that looks wrong. Maybe this is fatigue, but I don't immediately see how to correct this.

For some reason, today in the pharmacy, I either sold cotton swabs, or condoms. O.o
@FaheemMitha what about gerund? Networking
Oh hmmm, hold on.
Not a good idea
@FaheemMitha Hey, what about "relied on, which is unfortunately more than I can say for cell phone networks"?

Q: What is the English term for "assume the least dangerous body pose when falling"?

CowperKettleIn Russian, there is the term сгруппироваться ("to group yourself together"), which means "fold your body, bend your legs and arms". This action is believed to be helpful when falling, since it helps one minimize injury. I looked up translations for сгруппироваться in Multitran and found these:...

Q: Do the lower part of underwear (panties, boxers, etc.) have a name?

alexThe term "lower part of panties" is common according to Google. Is that how it's commonly referred? Or the part under an underwear has a name?

Q: Verb meaning 'to use as a starting point for, opportunistically' or 'use as a pretext for'?

user46212I'm looking for a verb whose meaning is approximately "use as a starting point for, opportunistically" or "use as a pretext for". For example, She's using her safety presentation to [             ] her campaign to increase employee wages. Meaning: She's exploiting her presentation to launch...

@M.A.R. I suppose that's a workable workaround. But could one fix the original sentence?
Maybe "Indian phone network infrastructure" or "Indian phone network system"?

3:21 PM
Should it be "mobile network" or "cell phone network"?

4:31 PM
That's insane

@FaheemMitha how about "cell phone network coverage is not one of those things"?

5:04 PM
Hmm, is not one of those works but are not some of those doesn't.
It sucks. Or it's interesting. I have to make up my mind.
.
Spotify doesn't work. I tried many remedies, but to no avail. Mildly vexing.

5:38 PM
@terdon That might work too.

5:50 PM
Mornin.

6:28 PM
@MetaEd You're late
You just missed it

@Mitch What's insane?

6:46 PM
@FaheemMitha All of it
If it's not one thing, it's another

@Mitch Sounds like my timing was perfect.

Perfect is a bit strong
Kind of a high standard to meet

@Mitch That's a mite non-specific.

@FaheemMitha Also as sensitive as you can get
But for the record, mites are very specific

7:39 PM
@Mitch These are my favorite:

8:12 PM
@MetaEd It's lousy of me to pick a nit, but that's a tick, not a mite.

8:39 PM
Such lovely animals.

@Mitch It's a chigger, which is a type of mite.

So is their mouth really that long?
And why isn't it coloured red?

@Cerberus Their body is in red. Their saliva dissolves your skin making a well from which they suck your blood.

Okay, and the well is apparently called a mouth.
Interesting.

8:57 PM
@MetaEd Chiggers can't be boozers

@Færd it interestingly sucks
@FaheemMitha I kept thinking why you don't use things like "mobile network coverage" but I just refrained from changing your words. Just the grammar.
@MetaEd who knew vampires didn't look like gentlemen?
@CowperKettle Hi. Welcome to our site. Please don't misuse the chat section to post answers, and post an answer instead. Chat's sole purpose is rants about the world.
And lame puns.

@M.A.R. Whoa whoa whoa dude. Back it up. Hold your roll. Check yourself.
All puns are lame. Singling some out is uncool man

All puns are lame, but some are lamer than the others.

That's lame

Q: "Cislunar" for arbitrary planetary systems?

GarrickWIt appears the term cislunar specifically refers to the space between Earth and the Moon's orbit. Is there a generic term to describe the space between any planet and the orbits of its natural satellites, or between any body and its satellites? For example, one that could equally describe the sp...

What do you call these?
Not a wheelbarrow, nor a cart, I guess.
Maybe a truck (sense 1.2), but I suspect that's uncommon now?
Trolley could work too, I guess? But not in AmE.

@Færd images
Wheelcart
Or yeah, trolley

Q: What is a gender neutral word for the title 'Mr International'?

11:23 PM
@Færd I'd be perfectly comfortable calling it a handtruck.
But a cart also, yes.

11:39 PM
@M.A.R. Thanks!
@MetaEd Thanks!
