1:02 AM
Yooo.

2 hours later…
2:44 AM
I was writing a facebook message, and I couldn't work out how to phrase part of my message:

"Not trying to be rude, an honest question: Do you post here more than on your actual page? I am not sure to what extent that I can see your page's content."

Should it be "...I am not sure to what extent of which I can see your page's content." Or what is above, or neither?

Neither.
Just remove that from your first sentence.

"Not trying to be rude, an honest question: Do you post here more than on your actual page? I am not sure to what extent I can see your page's content."?
Thanks Cerberus
Is that Colon good?

It looks fine to me.
You normally wouldn't use a capital after a colon, though.

Really? I thought that was only the case for semicolons?
Oh it is true, thank you!

Only a full stop, a question mark, and an exclamation mark end a sentence.

2:57 AM
Weirdly enough, for some reason, I though that the bottom of the colon/semicolon worked exactly as they would without it being a [type]colon. E.g. I would continue on from a semicolon, as if it was a comma.

Haha I see.
But there is a dot in a comma: it just has a little tail...

@Cerberus Maybe I should come by here more often, so I can study the language use of the members here :).

3:38 AM
@Cerberus Meeee.

1 hour later…
4:57 AM
I just know they are going to laugh at my analphabetics.

7 hours later…
11:29 AM
@Robusto not one but four.
And Cerb is Dutch so it does not apply to him.

No. As I stated, it applies to meeee.

11:58 AM
Yes, that is at least two Es too few for Dutch.

12:44 PM
Actually, I believe @Cerb is Hollandaise, not Dutch. He's a saucy doggy.
I mean, who ever heard of a Dutch sauce?

Q: Translate this Old English sentence

user3267915I read the following sentence over here, but fail to understand what it means: "Foam Irwin walk etc. Flaked jamming arm shin but. Quakerish aves Fibel wobei checks sudden Bush genau." "Fibel", "wobei" and "genau" apparently mean "primer", "whereby" and "exactly" in Contemporary English, but I'...

You might be interested to know that "Fibel, wobei and genau apparently mean primer."
Also that they are Old English.
I'm just happy we are speaking New English now.

1:59 PM
In New Englandish, no one sounds happy.

Not today. Shitty weather.

4 hours later…
6:24 PM
This chat is dead.
Jasper, come on back. I know you're reading this.

C'mon, man, it just ain't the same without you.

6:44 PM
Jasper, you will be well someday. Do not lose heart. Rob is right, it isn't the same without you. Keep trying.
I expect you will be back someday, hopefully when you're well. I'll keep an eye on this chat until that happens.

Potatoes are filled up with starch The energy helps you to march So eat them up good Then fill up on pud Drink water to or you’ll parch

Pud = pudenda? I'm confused by that limerick, @MattЭллен.

pud is short for pudding

Oh.
That makes more sense.

My universe is growing so slowly these days.

7:56 PM
I've reset it again
onto my third universe

I was thinking I might do the same.
I've got a half hour before my next meeting. I could probably make Planetary by then.

probably

How far did you get on the entire universe this time?

I think all the things up to massive up to 1000
what is your meeting about?

It's the dev launch for the big project.

7:59 PM
!!
exciting

Sort of.
It will likely be similar to the crazy meeting I had this morning.
Where we started off agreeing to the solution and then when I re-iterated it at the end, one person suddenly started talking all crazy.
"Let;s do this really simple thing, and that will solve all of our stuff."
"Yes!"
"So in sum, this really simple thing will solve all of our stuff."
"No!"
"What?"

gah! people shouldn't be allowed to talk

"Hyperlinks to everything!"
"BUT WHY?"
"Because that's how we do it now! Otherwise how will people find things?"
"Didn't we just finish saying how directing them to the search application is how we want them to find things?"
Sometimes I wonder if I'm on drugs without realizing it.

:D
so they're not letting the devs release the product yet?

That's a whole nother can of worms.
This is for the uberproject.

8:03 PM
ah

We have 1000 or so lists of things.
literally

that's a lot

So I'm trying to push them toward directing all of that stuff to the search application, which provides 1) a list in 2) a standard format that can be 3) refined as desired according to robust functionality.
And 4) doesn't require customizing every list with search filters, etc.
Because why do we need 1000 lists anyway?

because lists are sexy

And at the beginning, everyone saw the remarkable simplicity and beauty of this solution.

8:05 PM
It wouldn't be so bad if the lists were automatically generated, and in a standard format, with a single underlying code base, etc.

And then at the end, the one person couldn't figure out how we'd have the vastly long hyperlinked list of research hierarchies on a single page. How was that going to work?

...and then made a list of lists to combine all the lists in a single data structure...

And the suggestion that we neither needed nor wanted nor found useful such a thing was met with bafflement.

anyone know if someone just got banned from the math room for mentioning a word?

8:07 PM
And we'll call it 'Hypercard'

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I could look if you were more specific.

I just mentioned a word. Is that a bad thing?

At the end of the day, people who interpreted PE as "Physical Education" and "Pus Eaters" are merely observers of @Huy's comment. The real meaning is with the observer.
That message was flagged

I saw a flag, but it was a mention, not a use
yeah, that

Physical Education...if it has to have 'education' added to it, its not education.

8:08 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Nope.

yeah it still appears in the room

I think "The real meaning is with the observer" was meant to hurt.

frickin' flags

8:19 PM
It's too bad Jasper's not here to see that I have a new avatar.

doughnut and coffee(?)

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Looks just like you.

@MattЭллен yeah specifically I updated the coffee cup
@KitFox That's what I'm going for

I figured only Jasper would notice

8:21 PM
I'm trying to decide if I should get a hotel tonight or brave the roads. Stupid late meeting.

@KitFox bad weather?

Ice and sleet.
Over about 25 miles of my 50-odd mile commute.
The meeting hasn't started yet either.
I should probably get myself some coffee though.

50 miles, that's not a short commute

Nope.
I got my snows on, but that's not going to help on an ice bridge 70-feet over a river.

If it's a dangerous commute, you should consider staying where you are.

8:33 PM
yeah

And even if you're under control, it's other people to worry about too.

9:21 PM
Yeah, I'm staying.
bbl

9:36 PM
Yo.
Is Jasper on another hiatus?
@Mr_Green Sounds like an excellent name!
