@RegDwight Got a question. A guy who was very high on rep, is now on "This account is temporarily suspended for voting irregularities." and he has "1 rep"... The page about the Penalty box says that the reputation will be restored after the penalty time, but: then what is the purpose of locking the rep at 1?

@z7sg that could be good or bad, depending on what you remove. I think there is a timeout on when you delete answers, so old answers with up votes can't be removed.
ShreevatsaR leads by average answer score; Robusto leads by average rep per day; Dusty is the least downvoted; mmyers needs the least keystrokes per rep point; nohat is leading by passive rep; etc.
There is that dialect of German in which a woman is referred to as an it. The funny thing is that German has grammatical gender, so the word woman itself is female, grammatically.

@GraceNote — Being male is a process of differentiation. All fetuses begin as female, and boy babies grow up in a world of women. At some point we have to start breaking things and doing gross stuff merely to emphasize that we are XY and not XX.
BTW, the stuff that got left off that little missing arm of our Y chromosome includes all the governors on all the throttles. Basically, that's about it.
You can sculpt your vision of my sex as you see fit. I tell people to use whatever pronoun they want because I tired of people telling me who I was. In both directions.

@MrHen The connection between the military housing and the part of town sense. If the military were housed in a town quarter, I can see how this might give that progression. I don't know if that's clear. I have to let my brain rest a little first.

@MrHen Then the connection here "a ship’s officer whose duties included stowing of the hold" to "an officer in charge of quarters and rations for troops" is missing for me.
@Kit So, a quartermaster was responsible for tracking the provisions and such for a specific location (via French quartier-maître) and the location that a quartermaster was master of became known as a quarter.
This quarter talk got me thinking about the clause of no quarter in conflict:
The term originates from an order by the commander of a victorious army that they "will not quarter (house)" captured enemy soldiers. Therefore, none can be taken prisoner and all enemy combatants must be killed
