@HodofHod How come sometimes the script will sometimes write the name and number of my cited source, but other times will just transform into a link, making me put it inside a bracket and parentheses set so that it looks normal?
(I like it better when all I have to write is the script ;-)
Never mind, I just figured out what l does :)
I just have to say it again -- this script is AWESOME!!!
Are m and l exclusive, when used for tanach links?

1:02 AM
L is for everything, m is only tanach
Oh, I'm sorry, no - you can combine them.

I just tried it -- [t genesis 22 22 l m] and [t genesis 22 22 m l] both turned red on me.

2 hours later…
2:35 AM
@HodofHod @MonicaCellio I just used the [h] feature of the script (and just found out that it works in chat too!) .....I have to say, it's a great idea, and well implemented. Well done :-)
@HodofHod Feature request: Hebrewbooks Rambam, because they have click-on-me nosei keilim under every halacha linked to.
(if I retained any of the javascript I learned in high school I'd try to do it myself :P)

@Shokhet @HodofHod did all the work; I just asked for a pony feature. :-)

@MonicaCellio It's still your idea ;-)

@Shokhet ok, but I still got the easy part. :-)

2:50 AM
@MonicaCellio :)

@Shokhet (I don't actually know what that means, but I starred it because it's a feature request and that might help HodofHod see it when he gets here later.)

@MonicaCellio nosei keilim (נושאי כלים) are the commentary sefarim that explain halacha sefarim.

@Shokhet lose the space between l and m. Flags don't need one.

Mishna Berura is among the most commonly used נושאי כלים on SA OC
@HodofHod Thanks!
It works :)

@Shokhet so do they have a standard reference scheme? e.g. if I say B'rachot 2a or Sh'mot 20:1 everybody knows exactly what I mean; is that true for nosei kelim too?

2:53 AM
@MonicaCellio You'd probably say "Mishna Berura 22:3" or "Siman 22, seif katan 3"

@Shokhet ah! I know MB but didn't know the general category term.
@Shokhet right, that makes sense to me. It sounded like you were saying there was a higher-level citable thing, and I wasn't grokking that.

We've discussed doing a Hebrew books Rambam before. I don't remember the details. I'll have to take a look at the feasibility when I get to a computer.

3:41 AM
@HodofHod Ok, thanks.
@MonicaCellio Ah.
I'ts my personal theory that the term "nosei keilim" is a continuation of the "Shulchan Aruch" "Set Table" terminology -- Shulchan Aruch = Set Table, Mapah (Rama) = Tablecloth, Nosei Keilim = utensils .....if so, it might not be correct to refer to the Kesef Mishna and the Lechem Mishnah as "nosei keilim" ;-)

YeZ
@HodofHod am I missing something of how to use the [h] feature? Because it isn't working for me.
@HodofHod feature request for vikitext shas? (he.wikitext)

@YeZ We already have shas....wabt mishna?

YeZ
And is there an easy way I (as a programming illiterate) can help to add features? I'd be happy to help add something if it just takes me 5-10 minutes a day and little technical knowhow (i.e. just busy work)
@Shokhet as the saying goes, different shas for different folks.

@YeZ You meant mishnayos when you wrote "shas"? .....I haven't seen that so often.

YeZ
@Shokhet No I meant Talmud Bavli Gemara. But I like the he.wikitext setup.

3:48 AM
Even though it really makes more sense -- there are 6 sedarim of mishna, but not of gemara

YeZ
but it wouldn't be the first additional shas.

@YeZ Ah....I prefer צורת הדף, when I can get it.

YeZ
Or maybe it would. But it wouldn't be the first redundant material.

@YeZ That's true.....
1 hour ago, by Shokhet
(if I retained any of the javascript I learned in high school I'd try to do it myself :P)
Maybe I should try to recover that lost knowledge.....

YeZ
@Shokhet I learned C++ - that's probably even less useful for this.

3:52 AM
@YeZ I've dabbled in C++, but don't remember any of that either.

YeZ
4:28 AM
@Shokhet how does the help pop-up work?
@HodofHod is there a list of "under way" projects? Because Shulchan Aruch would be a good one to add.

4:56 AM
@YeZ Write [h] and a bar comes out at you from the right of the screen.
it works in chat also -- it just showed up for me :)

@YeZ There isn't really list, just what people tell me. :)
(Though if you'd like, you're welcome to open feature requests/issues on the GitHub page.
@YeZ Sometimes, especially when adding a new site for the references. For example, in order to add hebrewbooks, I need to know the sefer number and subsection number for each section.
For example: Hilchos Maaser is hebrewbooks.org/rambam.aspx?sefer=7&hilchos=37

@HodofHod @YeZ I might do that also -- tell me where to put that info!

5:15 AM
I'm gonna do some more looking into exactly what I need and how I need it, but I'll let you know. Thank you for offering to help! :D So much of this Referencer is only from the communities work on things like this.

I'm glad to help -- there's no reason that one person should do all the work himself :-)
(even if that person knows how to write scripts ;-)

6:05 AM
I think I may've figured out a way to do it programatically.

@Shokhet The original meaning of nose kelim is I think "armsbearer". (It appears in Ⅰ Sh'muel with that meaning IIRC.) How and why that became the term used for commentaries I don't know, but I think it applies to Rambam also.
Beginning in the Middle Ages, a squire was the shield- or armour-bearer of a knight. At times, squires acted as a knight's errand runner or servant. Use of the term evolved over time. Initially, squires were a knight's trainees/apprentices. Later, a village leader or a lord of the manor might be called a squire, and still later, the term applied to key public figures such as justices of the peace or members of Parliament. In contemporary American usage, squire is the title given to justices of the peace or similar local dignitaries. Squire is a shortened version of the word 'esquire', from the...
Ooh, I've just learned a new word:
Noun: armiger (plural armigers)
  1. (heraldry) A person entitled to bear a coat of arms.
Adjective: armiger m (feminine armigera, neuter armigerum); first/second declension
  1. Carrying weapons or armor/armour; armed; warlike.
Oy, the oneboxing for Wikt is terrible. There are two En noun defs and three La adj defs, and it shows one of each with no indication as to language. Sheesh.

1 hour later…
8:05 AM
@Shokhet Does that mean you were in high school 15 years ago?
(or less)

3 hours later…
10:38 AM
@Scimonster Amazing! How do I contact a mod? (They seem as inaccessible as everybody else here.)

11:33 AM
@DannySchoemann You can flag something for mod attention with a custom flag. Or you can just post in meta or chat.

5 hours later…
4:07 PM
@DannySchoemann we don't mean to be inaccessible. But speaking only for myself, I'm more likely to notice something in chat if (a) it's in the main room or (b) you ping me explicitly ("@" + user name).
But all that said, if the problem is with a specific post or comment, the best thing to do is flag. That way we'll all see it and we don't have to rely on seeing it in the inbox.

5:03 PM
Don't mind me anyone, I'm just going to be testing the new HB Rambam.
[mt siddur 1 lh], [mt haggadah 1 lh]
(Good, those shouldn't work because HB doesn't include either of those)

1 hour later…
I used the h tag!

I haven't pushed the changes to GitHub yet :)

Ah :)

What do you think about linking to the tzuras hadaf version?

6:14 PM
I didn't know that there was one online
@msh210 Cool, thanks!

Part of the HB beta: beta.hebrewbooks.org/…

@msh210 Nice word :)
@HodofHod Oh. Cool!
What about SA tzuras hadaf? Is that doable?
@HodofHod I probably would rather use HB text Rambam, but I would understand if some people would use the tzuras hadaf Rambam.
@Scimonster In high school 2 years ago, but the computer class was two years before that.

Yes, that one
I've been linking to it manually, when it's come up
(same way I've been manually linking everything since I've come to MY ;)

It's doable, but it doesn't look like there's a method to their url id scheme, which means a lot of manual labor.

6:19 PM
Hm....
I could do some "busy work"
@HodofHod Would it be possible to write a script that would follow the path here down to a specific siman?

Wait! I think I've figure out a better way (again ;D)
Heh heh.
Ok, so it's still a server call per sefer, section, and then siman, but that might be workable

6:35 PM
@DannySchoemann (I'm not sure if you noticed, but this is not the main site chat room; it is a specific one for Hod's scripts. The regular room where most people can be pung is chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/468/vdibarta-bam)

~1805 server calls.

7:14 PM
@Shokhet Wow, i thought you needed to be older for your job. ;)

@Scimonster Nope, 18. And I'm not doing it as a job ;-)

@Shokhet Without giving too much away, where are you learning/practicing? Yeshiva? Shlachthois? Backyard?

YeZ
@HodofHod back alleyway?

@YeZ back handed?

YeZ
?

7:29 PM
back in the old country?

Backwards?

YeZ
I wasn't trying to build on back.. I was just trying to add another location. Yeesh.
I take it back.

@YeZ backgammon?

YeZ
@HodofHod backlog?

back..
teria?

7:34 PM
Hallal place nearby, backyard, basement of shul where classes take place....right now, anywhere where I have someone willing to watch my shechita.

YeZ
@Shokhet including back alleyways?
and back-teria?

@YeZ Haven't done that one yet
@YeZ Nor that one
(I hope)

@MonicaCellio @DannySchoemann Me too.
@MonicaCellio @DannySchoemann And I concur.

YeZ
still no [h] function for poor old YeZ.

@YeZ Wait a second after writing it? It doesn't show up immediately....

7:49 PM
@YeZ Perhaps your script isn't auto-updating?

Alternatively, try clicking on the Tampermonkey logo in the top right corner, and click on the "update" button

Just tested [h], it's pretty cool.

It works in chat also, which surprised me when I first wrote about it :)
17 hours ago, by Shokhet
@HodofHod @MonicaCellio I just used the [h] feature of the script (and just found out that it works in chat too!) .....I have to say, it's a great idea, and well implemented. Well done :-)

YeZ
@Scimonster just rub it in, just rub it in.

@YeZ Personally, i'd really like to rub some vaseline in my hands, does that count? My eczema is acting up now...

YeZ
7:56 PM
My update thingy says no updates found. It also says no scripts are running. However, I just tested to make sure the referencer is running.

@YeZ Try reinstalling the referencer?

YeZ
What does it mean to "import" a userscript?
in my tampermonkey dashboard, it has the option to "import" the "MY Referencer"

@YeZ Where? I don't see that.

YeZ
@Scimonster right next to the trashcan icon in the installed scripts list.

@YeZ I don't see that. What does the last updated column say?
Mine is 16 minutes ago.

YeZ
8:00 PM
@Scimonster it's blank.
what version do you have (of tampermonkey)? are you using chrome?

@YeZ Try pressing import then.
Yeah, using Chrome.
Tampermonkey 3.9

YeZ
hmm. me too.

@YeZ Does importing do anything?

YeZ
ok when you press the little domino looking icon in your corner, then open the dashboard, what do you see?
@Scimonster it didn't let me import.

@YeZ How often is it set to check for updates? Go into settings.

YeZ
8:04 PM
set to every day. Just changed to every hour.

@YeZ So i guess see if you get your [help] in an hour. ;)

YeZ
@Scimonster on my list of installed scripts, there is first a row with MY Referencer, then below that it says "no script is installed"

@YeZ That's weird. Try reinstalling the script?

YeZ
OK I figured it out. I had followed the old instructions for installing. Now I did it the new way.
but [h] still isn't working!!!!!!!!!!1!!! eleven!
now it was updated 2 minutes ago.
[h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h] [h]
I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!! ok just kidding.

@YeZ if you're trying it in chat, reload the tab.
(After the script updated, I mean.)

YeZ
8:16 PM
@MonicaCellio DUDE! EURIKA!
or dudette, as the case may be.

I don't know if that's a factor in Chrome, but I'm using Firefox and that made the difference for me.

YeZ
@MonicaCellio worked like a charm. Thanks.

@YeZ I was gonna say -- is that aspect of my identity really so obscure? :-)
@YeZ you're welcome! (And now I know that you need to do that in Chrome too.)

YeZ
But how did you know I was a woman??? — Double AA ♦ Feb 22 '13 at 4:11

@HodofHod Has @MonicaCellio ever asserted that (s)he is female?

8:20 PM
@YeZ That's step 4!
Anywho, so I've gotten all the SA ids for HebrewBooks. It's like 20-30kb.

Cool! When can that be added in?
You, @HodofHod, are awesome.

I can do that pretty soon. The script is going to blow up a bit (it's at 53ish right now), but hopefully no one will notice.

@HodofHod Big! Maybe AJAX it on demand?
Like, as soon as they type the [sa opener, load the IDs?

Q: What's the youngest that a shochet could be?

ShokhetIs there a lower age limit to be able to shecht (slaughter animals in a kosher manner)? If so, what is it? Related question: Is age a disqualification for Shechita? (upper age limit)

I meant to post that one for a while...thanks @Scimonster for reminding me to do it :)

9:26 PM
@Shokhet Thanks :D
@Scimonster Hm. That's a bit more work, since I don't have any caching functionality yet.
Ok, I've managed to cut down the size to 8kb, so I think I'll just add it in.

10:19 PM
@Shokhet I'm pretty sure there aren't that many seifim in yd 45
You can't link directly to a se'if, btw, and by extension, I can't validate seif numbers

@HodofHod The link goes to 47, in any event

Also, all of those links go to wrong places right now.
Exactly

lmk when it's functional and updated in your github repo, I'll update my version of the script
Thanks again! :-)

I will :P

Thanks :)

10:39 PM
@Shokhet Changes have been committed.
Version 4.0.0 released: Shulchan Aruch (HB) added, new HB source for Rambam added.
3
Syntax is [sa oc 45:4] [sa Orach Chaim 4]

@HodofHod Cool, thanks!
[sa yd 19]
[sa yd 1]
?
I updated the script and refreshed the page....
@HodofHod I just said that ^^^^
;-)

Sorry :D

I'll try closing and reopening my browser -- brb
I also tried it in questions -- this is great!! Thanks @HodofHod!! :D

There you go. Apparently, Tampermonkey has issues. Maybe it's caching issue that takes a bit to clear.

Could be.

10:52 PM
@Shokhet My pleasure! Now for documentation....
Ughh

Good luck :)

11:11 PM
@HodofHod, is it a problem if "shechitah" links to שאלה ופקדון? ^^^

11:28 PM
Um, yes.

(same thing happens with the mechon mamre links.....)
