Apparently there's no officialy policy along the lines Denis mentioned
But maybe it's an informal rule widely observed
One issue is that chat moderation is network-wide
So if there's a flag, it's responded to by a moderator from an arbitrary SE site
But if your link was removed due to response to a flag then that's still weird
I dunno who would have flagged it.
May need to poke around some more
I suppose it's not pressing

word on the street is this
There is no formal policy against outside links in chat, pinned or not, nor against outside links in room descriptions
Moreover, the usual mod guidance is to tread lightly on other sites' chats
So it seems whoever removed the pin was being a bit overenthusiastic (there have been problems with outside links in some chats in the past)
So @JonathanBeardsley you should feel free to include hyperlinks, including a link for the discord server, in comments, pinned or not, and in the room description
And if something like that gets removed again, I can try to make it widely known among the mods that your links here are fully supported by the MO moderators.
I'm also told it's unlikely the link was flagged by any kind of automated system thingy
So there's still the mystery of how it got to this overenthusiastic mod's attention
oh well
Oh one more thing -- pins expire after two weeks
My understanding is that this pin disappeared much quicker than that
anyway whatever
