@PolyGeo (and other mods/users interested in the subject), are these (gis.stackexchange.com/tags/…) not merged synonym tags? Should we merge them? I think we should. This is my opinion/explanatation why: stats.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2790/…. Tks.

@AndreSilva I'm inclined to agree but I think we should discuss with the community on our Meta first. One consideration is whether such merges should keep/drop the synonym - I think you are saying to merge without ticking the checkbox to keep the synonym.

One consideration is whether such merges should keep/drop the synonym. @PolyGeo, tks. I did not know there was more than one type of merge. What does it mean to merge a tag and dropping the synonym? Or maybe I wanted to ask the other way (with 'keep'). What are the differences in practice?

@AndreSilva The interface to that mod tool is in the image below. If we merge arcpy-mapping into arcpy without keeping the synonym then arcpy-mapping no longer exists. That means if someone types arcpy-mapping in as a tag then the tag gets re-made rather than re-mapped to arcpy.

Got it, tks.
@PolyGeo So, I think the default option should be to keep the synonym, after merging. If it was a synonym once, and it is a stable synonym, why should not it be kept? Just wondering, not 100% sure...

@AndreSilva I think the default should normally be to keep the synonym (unless a spelling mistake or some other reason is noticed to make that undesitable). The screenshot below shows what happens when I say to keep the arcpy-mapping synonym when merging it into arcpy (which I proceeded to do).
There should now ne no questions with both and (just the former).

@PolyGeo, that is what I also think. Thanks for taking the time explaining how the merge process works.
