This makes it easy to see that a checking algorithm optimally searches region first because there will always be less cells to check than orthogonally.

Hi, just a quick question: why was this Question and all the answers converted to wiki posts by Mod? mathoverflow.net/q/317256/105150
I am frequent at SO, not here, there might be some "MO rules" I don't know about, just curious.

@zx8754 That is probably question more easily answered by the moderator in question, but I§d guess that the answer here and some of the discussions linked there might shed some light on this" Why was my non-big-list question made community wiki?
> Questions that are typically or at least often made CW include
Career advice questions,
Questions regarding style (e.g., in writing papers),
Big-list questions, especially if they quantify over all mathematical fields.

@MartinSleziak To clarify, to avoid getting million similar answers (for reps), to discourage Mod can just change it to CW?

I am not sure that would really discourage posting answers. However, it seems that MO is different in using CW from the rest of network. (Or at least from the official recommendations given on Meta Stack Exchange and Stack Exchange blog.)
But you are right that CW works effectively as a reputation denial mechanism.

@MartinSleziak Great, yes, from reading linked posts, now I see it is used in a different way here. Thank you for clarification and links.
