I believe I have seen also this question in the HNQ not too long ago: Why should I care about the Jones polynomial?
BTW it seems that meta is more active than usually - thee questions appearing in community bulletin.
And thanks to recent answers by Todd Trimble, there is a bit more presence of moderators on meta - I certainly appreciate that.

@domotorp I am not sure what you mean by parent site. MathOverflow runs on Stack Exchange platform. The Stack Exchange software does not have a "standing bounty" feature. Yes, I've meant the platform. So do I understand it well that on the major stackoverflow site this feature is unwanted and that's why they don't implement it, although other, smaller sites, would welcome this feature? If this is the case, what can we do about it? — domotorp 54 mins ago

I have somewhat sketchy internet connection now, but let's hope I'll be able to come online when needed.
Maybe people who know more about this will correct me, but I do no think that this is the fair characterization of the question: "the major stackoverflow site this feature is unwanted and that's why they don't implement it".
Stack Exchange is the name of the network consisting of many Q & A sites. Stack Overflow is the best known of those sites.
Stack Exchange also develops the underlying software.
People from the whole network can propose feature requests, discuss them, vote on them etc. This is done mainly on Meta Stack Exchange.
So I am not sure how we could know that "other, smaller sites, would welcome this feature".
The feature request I linked to has score -10 (+4/-14). But we do not know whether the votes on that feature request came from MO users, from SO users, from users of other sites...

I have neither upvoted nor downvoted the feature request.
I still think that having a list of such questions somewhere could serve as a reasonable replacement and is possible within the current limitations of the software.

So then the situation is that the MO community cannot have a feature without SE implementing it. For SE to implement it, it must have a positive feedback on the meta SE, which mainly includes people from other sites, such as SO, where they are against it. Maybe then this workflow should be changed, though I'm not sure how. Can I propose something on meta SE asking only MO users to vote?
(Wow, I've got 18.2k points here! It's my first time here, but knowing this, I'll come more often to see my precious points ;)
