looks like it works in oK, too, since oK's arithmetic ops have always operated on floats

imo the purpose-built golfing languages already ruined most of the fun of participating

@JohnE i'm not sure. technically answers in the same language are supposed to compete only among themselves.

and judging by the number of votes various languages get, the existence of jelly doesn't at all ruin the fun people have with python (for instance)

what ruins the fun for me is the lack of enough people golfing

we lost a lot of great golfers from all languages after the monica scandals a couple of years ago

as for k, unfortunately most k gurus are too busy and/or prefer hiding from such public places

@ngn i had been thinking of something similar too, too few golfers for the high rate of new challenges that we have, the effect of which is more apparent in unpopular languages like sed, f.x, there's a huge disparity in the quality of sed golfing between ppcg and anagol. an ideal golfing site would try to rate limit that, maybe having only the highest voted sandbox submission at the end of every week or so posted to main. that's why i've started your habit of bountying interesting problems

there was always a meaningful aspect of competition to displaying not just one's own skill but also showcasing your favorite language. I guess what I was alluding to is that it doesn't surprise me that the people who are still around are fine with post-hoc language tweaking, since the people who were turned off by huffman-encoded golf languages just quietly stopped participating
