@David It's just missing an accretion disk
I actually tried making one for it back then but I wasn't happy with it

@gandalf3 still is awesome.
@gandalf3 what is making the jagged edged around the bottom of the blackhole's shadow?

@David That's the problem, it's due to the limited number of iterations on the screw modifier
Right there it's especially visible as that's where the light bending is most intense
I can crank the screw modifier up a bunch, but the render times go insane
@GiantCowFilms o/

Q: Blender game recording at the wrong time

Aiden StoreyI have a simple animation for a midterm project; someone walks up and pushes dominoes over. I can set something with physics to knock the dominoes over at frame 125, then play the engine and he will walk up and push the dominoes up easy enough. When I record though, the animation will still show ...

IM NOT DED

@X-27thefluffyunicorn whoa!

its only been 16 months....

12:44 AM
dont get too crazy now...
you do not want to "burn out" by posting too much :)

Some of my old gifs were neat

Nice XD

@David ehh... don't think that will be a problem.
but I'll be careful

(btw, could you UV the question so he'll have enough rep to upvote mine?) XD

12:48 AM
@gandalf3 That looks awesome, despite the artifacts.
I wish that was part of the answer, there are several things I want to know about the creation of that image from looking at it.
@gandalf3 \o

@GiantCowFilms how is/was the BE rewrite coming?

@David Its basically done.
Its just have to finish implementing the data migration.

nice! do you have it running anywhere? (so we could take a peak)

Which I've been putting off since all the bugs require massive datasets to reproduce, which is a pain.
@David I could deploy a copy that points to a fresh DB maybe.....

@GiantCowFilms yah anything, so you can have a few other bug checkers/producers look at it.

12:56 AM
@David Definitely.
Also, I need code review. I suspect a fair amount of dead code to exist, also, I want someone to give the token a system a rundown and make sure I didn't screw anything up.

@GiantCowFilms probably can get my brother to look at it. He is a coder IRL.

@David That would be great.

Is it in a public repo somewhere?

there is always Code Review

@GiantCowFilms Now seems like an opportune moment to revisit it at any rate, I'll see what I can do

1:00 AM
@David I'm sure I will get oodles of upvotes. Hey guys!, here is a few thousand lines of PHP code. Plz fix.

lol

@GiantCowFilms not quite what I had in mind... yet its not a homework question, so you have that going for you.

I still can't believe I used PHP again for the re-write.....

haha

@GiantCowFilms its not that bad.

1:03 AM
I could have used something cool and modern like Java.

ew no!

compared to php that is a fitting description.

Have people started doing server side rust yet?

Yes, its a thing.
I was trying to re-do the planet game with rust/wasm
But the borrow checker defeated me.

asp is out of the question. so you have ruby, node, python, and cf.

1:06 AM
@GiantCowFilms the what?

@gandalf3 The thing in rust that prevents you from having multiple multiple references to a value.

Ah, I haven't actually used rust yet

It makes reference based data structures a royal pain.
This is an example someone created intending to prove that double linked lists are "easy to write" with the borrow checker: play.rust-lang.org/…

@GiantCowFilms Hm, I'm not sure the problem is obvious to me
Looks pretty much like the C++ implementation I wrote in datastructures as far as I can tell?

Its cheating though, by using an array to store the stuff instead of the heap.
As a result, splicing is O(N) instead of O(1).

1:13 AM
Yeah that's not right :P

Let me see if I can actually find a correct implementation.

@iKlsR How is your question different then one of the default questions:
> A diamond will be attached to everything you say and have said in the past, including questions, answers and comments. Everything you will do will be seen under a different light. How do you feel about that?
vs yours:
> What action(s) (inclusive of voting, commenting or anything public facing) have you taken on the site in the past that you aren't exactly proud of and what could you have done better? How would you have handled said situation as a moderator?
they both get at the same thing, but I rather like the default's wording better.
in either case we need to make sure only one ends up in the question list.

I don't see how those are at all the same?

@David Well, sort of related maybe, but to me the latter is asking for a reflection on how they could think they could've acted better in a particular situation, and the former is asking how they feel about being perceived as an authority or otherwise "different" from a normal user
@GiantCowFilms Is it moving the data instead of changing the references..?

1:28 AM
Yeah.
So that solution also sucks.

@David I did not read that. Heh.

1:59 AM
whoa this chat is alive

2:36 AM
Hey dudes! I know this is random, but I need maybe some guidance finding a specific question
So basically
It was about how to like fill an objects volume with densely packed curves/splines, like is used occasionally in C4D for mograph
I can't find it >.>
Suggestions?

3:22 AM
Some tricks I sometimes try:

* If you happen to remember some piece of exact wording from anywhere in the question or answers, SE search is often pretty good for finding that (even if it has nothing to do with the subject of the question)
* Start asking the question over again; the little search there seems to use a different algorithm than the main site search, and sometimes I find what I'm looking for that way when the main search didn't turn it up.
* Search using google/your search engine of choice with "site:blender.stackexchange.com"
