7:00 PM
nope
i've actually never been out of the country

like, i don't understand whats so great about sitting on a boat and drinking for 6weeks straight

the farthest i've been is a few states out

@CharlesL :O
wow

@VincentScalia lol

i've been to... um, almost every state
i don't think i've been in montana or texas, but thats about it

7:02 PM
@VincentScalia lol, i've been to VA, OH, NY, NJ and maryland
(and i live in PA)

nice
i used to live in VA

nice, it's warm there :P

well, more like DC, but it was pretty close
@CharlesL :/ not really

warmer than PA

i was little, but i remember that the weather was really cold and wet
@CharlesL I'm in CO right now
XD

7:04 PM
yeah, that is far away :P
i've always been in PA, but I hope to move to NY eventually

everyone in NY seems like they want to kill you and steal your keys

LOL
i'm used to that because a lot of people near where I live work in NY

scary place
same way in chicago

@VincentScalia are you in high school or college?
@VincentScalia i'm sure. chicago actually probably would freak me out more

CLASSIFIED

7:09 PM
your profile says you're 17
;)

yep, so you can guess.
but i'm not going to go around spewing info... GCF, NID, and David all know where i live and what school i go to

lol
internet stalkage

yeah, it's super creepy

i'm in a weird school situation, so it's unlikely people would ever guess it's me :P
oh wait
if you google my name, you find out some of it.
meh...
they'll never guess the whole thing ;)

but i know where NID lives, have some pretty good guesses about GCF, and David info is everywhere for the taking
Charlie Little

7:11 PM
nope
guess again

Lauren

no.
the "L" is for Leo (which is not my last name)

uh, Lamborghini?

i wish

@CharlesL oh

7:12 PM
man, i really wish

@CharlesL that would be so cool

that would be the best last name ever
free lamborghini rides for life
(i would think)
maybe i'll legally change my last name to Lamborghini and see if I can pass myself off as a italian

lol
maybe , as long as it ends with "I"

your name is unique though which probably made it easier to google
"scalia" isn't exactly as common as "smith"

good thing it's not my real name

7:14 PM
oooohhhhh, you have a secret identity!

plot twist!

dun dun dunnnnnn
i used to hide my identity as well: github.com/charles-l

Once on vacation, i had every call me vince and i talked in an Italian accent, so thats where that comes from.

but at this point, i don't really care. I have a Linkedin profile now, so it's pretty easy to find me :P

and everyone who didn't know me believed it

7:16 PM
@VincentScalia lol, that's awesome

@CharlesL same

@VincentScalia best secret identity origin story ever
and as long as i don't do stupid things online, i'm ok with people seeing what I've posted
so i'm careful not to do stupid things :P

@CharlesL :D :D :D :D i got tons of laughs out of that

(mostly)
@VincentScalia hey, there's more story behind your username than "Jason Bourne"

@CharlesL lol

7:25 PM

@gandalf3 ayyyyyy i really like that one

@GiantCowFilms ^^
:D

minimal text makes it so much better
/me applauds @gandalf3

:D :D

:) :) :) :D :D :D :) :) :)
^^ distress signal with smiley faces :)

7:26 PM
o.O I had three renderfarms open D:
lol

@gandalf3 DANG IT CHROME
(OR FIREFOX)

FF
>>>> chrome

ick

because reasons

can't stand ff
firefox just feels bloated

7:27 PM
no?
huh.. I always felt like chrome was bloated..

i use chromium for the most part on Arch
and I use chrome os x the other part of the time
chrome sux
chromium sux a little less
and ff sux the most

:P

when i'm feeling especially l33thax0r-ish, i use w3m in the terminal

\o/

/o/
\o\
/o\

7:29 PM
That's even better than elinks

agreed
and have you used w3m-image?
that's pretty freaking cool

:O no

yeah, images in a terminal cool
(not ascii, full on rendered images with pixels)

Dynamic ascii-art rendering? oh
whoa

^^
it can be used by external apps too, so you can preview images in the terminal with ranger

7:33 PM
Now just need a terminal-based image viewer/sorter

you could probably whip up a simple bash one with imagemagick thumbnail generation

yup

which distro are you on?

arch :)

oohhh
yeah :D
which terminal do you use?

7:35 PM
konsole, but not really because I like it

i think that supports it

More like because I haven't found one I like :P

i use urxvt because it's super minimal
i don't need tabs, etc, because I use tmux
my setup:
i bounce between i3 and bspwm (for my window manager), but they both essentially do the same thing
bspwm just allows for more customization, i3 has better out of the box support

Those are both tiling wms right?

yep
but they both have floating modes

7:38 PM
Never got used to the whole tiling thing..

I prefer it
no need for alt-tabbing :P

:D

i have mine set up to work like vim window management

I find myself with too many too-small windows

yeah that does sometimes happen :P

7:39 PM
Like blender :P

then i just move it to a different workspace
#lifeofablenderuser
this is one of my favorite subreddits: reddit.com/r/unixporn

ooh if only you could move editors to other screens in blender

got some awesome setups, dotfiles/configs

It would be just like having multiple desktops

@gandalf3 you can
oh, not internally to blender

7:40 PM
?

but you can pop it out as a separate window and move it to a different desktop/monitor

oh, yeah..

shift-drag the corner

I was thinking of internal blender "screens"

ehhh, would get way too confusing
we already have different workspaces

7:41 PM
You'd literally have a fully functional filing wm in blender \o/

lolz

Maybe I ought to give a tiling wm another go
The only one I've tried is awesomewm

do it! i'd recommend i3 for starting out
and it has lua scripting which is nice
oh, awesome's pretty good too
bspwm can be bash scripted, though which is pretty cool (but it takes like 3 hours to get it set up)
plus you have to writing the bindings yourself with an x keybinding daemon

o.o
Never used lua before

WHHAAAAAAAAAA
LUA is amazing!
my favorite language next to C!

7:44 PM
:O

i write all my 2D games in it
lol
it's a bit like Ruby, but much lighter weight and loads faster
Luajit is the fastest interpreted language (other than Perl in some cases)

wow

ooh, and it's easy to do C calls in lua and lua calls in C, because of the lua C api

o.o

sadly it's not that popular :'(

7:51 PM
I associate LUA with WoW addon development, which is a painful morass.

@MutantBob i'm sure it is, but that's because it's bound to a giant C++ project

I'm also spoiled by IntelliJ IDEA's refactoring menu for java. It's not safe to do refactoring in dynamic languages.

that's like saying C is messy because of GNU projects.

Lua also has no "continue" statement, which makes it harder to short-circuit a loop.

@MutantBob yeah... i hate IDEs in general, so that's not too much of an issue for me :P
@MutantBob you can always restructure it

7:53 PM
bspwm has a stupid wikipedia page.. :P

or put it in a function and return
@gandalf3 pfff it didn't even get a full paragraph!

D:

true. I just wish I could edit my LUA in emacs and then have it loaded into WoW as quickly as I can load python into a blender text buffer (red ring button = win)

archwiki to the rescue

@gandalf3 #archwikiforpresident

7:55 PM
:D

@David with two monkeys, your system doesn't work. one of them stops moving but the other keeps spinning around the marker.

arch wiki is love, arch wiki is life
@MutantBob does WoW require a restart or something?

way off topic : both Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate and the smuggler from the Knights of the Old Republic trailer had super-wide-brim hats. I have not seen any similar hats for sale in the real world.

@MutantBob wannabe cowboys
and yes, those brims are disproportionate

@CharlesL I am pretty sure WoW requires a restart if you change out an addon. I use the ArbitraryCommands addon which lets you edit LUA in an in-game editor, but it's clumsy and not emacs.

7:57 PM
@MutantBob ick. They should just point at a file in tmp that you can edit and autoreload.

I suspect that would run afoul of sandboxing or something.
Remember, WoW is a target of hackers. People steal imaginary gold and sell it to people for $$.

oh my. \o\/\o/\/o must installez nowww

@gandalf3 YEAH!!! ANOTHER BSPWM CONVERT!
@gandalf3 just a heads up, make sure to grab someone elses dotfiles to start, otherwise it's hard to cover everything

Though I must say lua scripting sounds nicer than bash scripting

and I'd recommennd sxhkd for the hotkey daemon
@gandalf3 yeah, but lua can shell out ;)

8:00 PM
true
@CharlesL I'll see.. That's the fun part :)

Well, LUA has better variable scoping than bash, but I don't know LUA's API for spawning subprocesses.

Bash has really unusual syntax

that file's a little out of date, but you get the idea. You call bspc with a command, and sxhkd will bind a key combation to the command
@MutantBob yeah... but you don't really need to do too much of that with bspwm
it's just one off commands

hm

8:03 PM
depends on how much time you have/how much customization you want
bspwm is a little lighter weight

So should be no problem to implement my nice dmenu shortcut

and easier to tie in with other utilities (it's more unix-ish)

more unixish than..?

@gandalf3 awesome

oh
@CharlesL But that's two keystorkes!

8:04 PM
awesome comes with batteries but is less easy to integrate with other things

Can't have that, that takes nearly 100ms to press D:
@CharlesL I like customizing stuffs :)

super
   dmenu_run

:O That works, without interfering with other super-shortcuts?
(like super RMB for e.g?)

yeah, i think so
it's on key-release not key-press

\o/
I wished openbox did that

8:06 PM
that's just sxhkd, bspwm doesn't handle keypress. just layout :)

I see
More unix like :)

i'll have to test it later, but i think that works crosses fingers
@gandalf3 exactly
if not, you could easily include xcape

^^

just add it to .xinit

BTW what display manager do you use/recommend?

8:08 PM
i've been using i3 for the last few days, but i'm going to be switching to bspwm again soon \o/
oh, what do you mean by display manager?

(they have their own display managers?)

like with multiple monitors?

ah, gotcha
i personally just log into a tty and startx
but i've used slim in the past
and wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Qingy is interesting since it doesn't depend on X11

ah

8:10 PM
but i think slim's pretty good

I've been using lightdm. slim sounded interesting, but apparenty it's been abandoned :/

oh no!
that sucks... :(
lightdm is probably ok then
i just have a general hate of freedesktop projects
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXDM might be good because lxde is a nice lightweight wm
they write some pretty good stuff

Perhaps I'll give qingy a go too (while I'm switching wms, might as well switch dms :P)
Or lxdm

ok, just a heads up with qingy
it uses directfb instead of X, which means it might have some permissions issues
(i tried to use it a few days ago and it didn't work)
but my arch setup is wonky (steam crashes all the time, etc)

I'll try it

8:16 PM
ok, lemme know how it goes :)

:D
Hmm directfb is down o.o

uh... that's not a good sign..
archwiki?

They just have an external link T_T
Ah well, I'll see if it works :P

lol, they copped out
TESTING IN PRODUCTION
JUST DOO ITTT

\o/

8:19 PM
my gosh, why does this room throttle me. I'm a freaking owner!!

lol ikr
it does that to me too
How dare it.

ugggg
we're not the spammers here!!!

@CharlesL What could possibly go wrong™?

#livinglifeontheedge

#thatshouldbeanarchlinuxmotto
#whyamiusinghashtagsihatehashtags
#:p

8:21 PM

XD

@gandalf3 #sotrue

Well this is worrying.. It was removed from the AUR
o.o

:O

8:26 PM
this site is too much fun: memegen.link

Ah well, it's still in the mirror!

lol
merging from develop is the best part of my day ¬.¬
merge conflicts are such fun...

lol
urg.. g2g, I'll see if I still have a login manager after I get back :P

this latest PR had so much weird magic, because Rails is opinionated
so yeah... i hope i don't get into too much trouble

o.O
???

8:30 PM
my work stuff :P
have you used Ruby/Rails at all?
@gandalf3 k hope it works :)

9:06 PM
@gandalf3 You get a prize!
One thing though, shouldn't we use the blend file icon from the site?
@gandalf3 You keep on out designing me! Ahhh D:
Can you add the gimp/psd (if you can save a psd from gimp) file to the repo: github.com/GiantCowFilms/Blend-Exchange/tree/master/designFiles/…
Also, last thing, save it at double res (440 x 500) SE will accept it and its higher quality for 4K displays.
@gandalf3 Important! Can you change it to long term intstead of permanent. (If we use permanent we need fine print) I don't like to use it since it is misleading
BE is not permanent, not in the legal sense. Through some odd means I may have to shut it down, and there is no guarantee that the files will stay forever.
Also the font could be thicker... its hard to read.
Nice one though, definitely going to adopt it.

2 hours later…
11:00 PM
whoOOaooaaaa..
SAY CAN YOU SEE?

what? what happened?

ByyyYyyY the DAWNS EARLY LIGHT!!!!
WHAT SO PROUDLY WE HAILED
at the twighlights last
GLEAMING!!!
bum bum bum....

11:38 PM
@GiantCowFilms You can, but it's an SVG

@gandalf3 SVG works

@GiantCowFilms Meh, I thought about it but I'm personally not a huge fan of the blendfile icon used on the site.. (Is it actually used anywhere?)
@GiantCowFilms Kewl
@GiantCowFilms Done

Oh I see
Looks better when it's big like that

That is how it is mean't to be

11:42 PM
I see, nevermind me then :P

So are you going to update it?

yup
Can we change the directory name to 'ads' though?
:P

@gandalf3 Why?

Because that's how it's spelled..

Right...

11:45 PM
Noun: ads
  1. plural of ad

something was bugging me
I feel rather stupid

(c) 2015

XD
(wrong clipboard™)
@GiantCowFilms Also s/commuinty/community/g

Rats
I'm having a bad spelling day

@GiantCowFilms how can i make my game load another .blend like you did with the zombies?

11:47 PM
Or should I say a regular game
@VincentScalia Look at the file...
:P
Its an actuator, someting like load .blend.

thats pretty vague... hmm...

@gandalf3 Are you going to do a pull request
?

yes.. gimme a second (cleaning up the file a bit)

Fixed the dir names... you can just overide it if you like

Perfect, just pulled
(and got new names)

11:56 PM
Found it, it's a game actuator

@VincentScalia Okay, good :D
couldn't remember the name
