11 hours later…
7:44 PM
I remember looking at that one a long time ago and wishing they'd make it open source
:D

@gandalf3 Instancing seems cool

Hi

But other than that, it doesn't seem better than Cycles..
@stacker Hi

What do you (and gandalf3) think about integrating leap motion (leapmotion.com) into blender and control it by gestures one hand could control the upcoming pie-menus and the other one trigger actions or transformations?

It has built in camera simulation
@someonewithpc Cycles has instancing too (duplis), but it's a kinda weird setup

7:55 PM
@gandalf3 Isn't it instancing like VRay has?

@stacker Idk.. I only ever used one once for a short time, idk what it would be like to use it for longer times

@gandalf3 It seems to be much more accurate than a kinect.

@someonewithpc What do you mean? I think I'm missing something..
@stacker I meant Nox (the render engine) has camera simulation.. :P

@gandalf3 How did it feel? Mouse replacement or some toy demo?

@gandalf3 I heard VRay had something about instancing like trees and stuff and it wouldn't increase render times or something like that

7:58 PM
@stacker It was a little hard to tell.. It was controlling a rather low resolution realtime smoke simulation and sometimes you had to try a couple times to move bits of smoke around. But that could be the simulation or just getting used to it.
@someonewithpc You can do that with cycles too.

@stacker I don't think it's a good replacement for a mouse, it could be inacurate, and after a while you probably get tired

@gandalf3 This sounds like a toy which cannot replace mouse and keyboard. I was also disappointed by Wacom tablets.

Probably

@gandalf3 You can? :D

I've never used a tablet, but lots of people have told me how great they are.. I was thinking of getting one
@someonewithpc Yep :) see the links

8:02 PM
Seeing them

@someonewithpc I see, Oculus was promising, now they have full hd and by next (2015) x-mas 4k resolution from samsung and consumer ready.

Not to replace my mouse, but just for drawing/sculpting

@stacker The Occulus Rift do seem interesting

@gandalf3 I suck with sculpting and gimp but this could improve

@gandalf3 Maybe, but as I have never used one, I don't know if it would be of much use

8:04 PM
@someonewithpc It was hard to get it to work in the game engine, but I will hang on.

yeah.. I don't think gimp is really designed for painting, mostly photo manipulation. I've heard these are good: krita.org blender.org/features code.google.com/p/gps-gimp-paint-studio mypaint.intilinux.com/?page_id=6

@someonewithpc It good for drawing and sculpting because it is sensitive to pressure and speed which adds another dimensions e.g thicker lines, deeper graving etc.
It seems iKlsR is back from vacation should we involve him in meta.blender.stackexchange.com/questions/410/…

Oh yeah
I forgot about that one
:P
@iKlsR ^^

@stacker Maybe, but a 3D Mouse does that as well

@someonewithpc I'm looking for a device that allows experiments in VR (with Oculus) and some thing that could be useful for common use as an alternative interface for blender (or other applications).

8:14 PM
@stacker Razer Hydras?

Tetris could be implemented by an average programmer over the weekend (without sound ;-)) Can someone imagine such an addictive experience which is only possible in VR?
@someonewithpc razor store: clearance, this seems to be a dead end. last weekend I throw away my first data glove from 2005 (I guess).
@someonewithpc Sorry, I got it the wrong way. Bookmarked!
o/

o/

o/
Why did we do that?
Is this question a bug report? blender.stackexchange.com/questions/8282/…

8:42 PM
More of a feature request I think
Though only the title is phrased that way, the question itself seems fine
I think

@gandalf3 Then what is Sticky mode supposed to do?

hmm
@someonewithpc It's.. supposed to keep what's happening from happening
But it does that in the 3D view too

Then it is a bug

Might as well report it I guess
I have a feeling it's a known effect of proportional editing, but I could be wrong

Might be

8:46 PM
Maybe we should report it, then handle the question based on the reply from the devs?

Do you want to report it? Or should I?

You should, my internet is being derpy right now

Okay
Hm..

@gandalf3 What?

8:56 PM
On second thought, maybe it's not a bug

@gandalf3 Explain

Sticky selection mode just makes it so that when you click on a vertex, it selects all the vertices in the same place
Whether it's in the same place in the 3D view or the UV editor

@gandalf3 ohhh........... You might be right...

Proportional editing is supposed to move vertices around the selection according to certain falloffs

Then add it as a feature request, maybe?

8:59 PM
Proportional editing is doing what it's supposed to.
Yes, it would be a nice feature.. I've tried to use proportional editing like this before

I haven't, but you never know when will you need it...

The only thing is, it would use the selection mode to define something else
Idk if that's okay

Not really; But a new option could be added
Do what this answer says, and then use random proportional edition; It gives a kinda cool effect while moving the mouse
If you zoom to where the triangles are

1 hour later…
10:14 PM
@stacker @gandalf3 Yeah, go for it. I like Alenanno's suggestion. Just one long post.
