@Shadur Well any increase of representation certainly is "coming from their pie". Whether or not they were entitled to that pie is a different question. But more importantly democrats describing whole swathes of people as being like "Dudley Dursley" is IMO one of the main reasons Trump won.

@DRF 1) Except that even that's wrong because it ignores that the "pie" is not actually a finite size and it was never a zero-sum game to begin with, so they were literally complaining that someone who wasn't them got something.
@DRF 2) If you're implying that a lot of people voted for someone who can accurately be described as the embodiment of the lowest common denominator out of spite because the actual adults in the room were insufficiently considerate of their feelings then if anything the comparison is unkind to Dudley Dursley.

@Shadur The pie is very much a finite size. It's bounded by the amount of money the producers can make. You can argue that the producers increased the size of the "pie" by getting more viewers but I don't think that claim will hold up under scrutiny.

@DRF The success of the Wonder Woman and Black Panther movies very much suggests that it will. More generally, producers clearly think it does because they keep making more diverse shows and movies.

@Shadur And yet again you're obviously the adult while the rest of the people are children that have to be cared after. Do you not see the bias? I'm not a fan of Trump or rural America much either, but I don't see how claiming they are not adults helps. All it does is make sure to alienate them and make sure they won't listen to anything you have to say.
@Shadur Of course they do, because from the point of view of sales it works great. I wonder if you looked at the median income of Trump supporters what you would find. If they really are mostly rural America I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they don't have the largest consumer power.
@Shadur The fact that producers are making more money off of the diverse shows vs. the rural shows doesn't mean there is more pie to be had. It just means some parts of the pie are better in sales/costs.
