@Mast probably
looking for Malachi showed me a few things in chat...
I just want to apologize for being scarce the last year (probably more). Moving back to Minnesota and getting settled into a job that was appreciative by words and not actions landed me in a bad work/life balance situation. while I was semi active on Twitter and doing other things I didn't have much time if any to give good assistance here.
but I have since quit that job and landed an opportunity to become a valued member of the team at a new place of employment where the culture is better and the work/life balance will be more conducive to jumping onto CodeReview during work and not during work. you all should see an increase in my activity here, and it should be consistent if not constant

@CaptainObvious Asking on CR rather than SO is the first thing you are doing wrong.

@DerKommissar yes they are

PSA: Both Vogel612 and Mathieu Guindon are stepping down. Election date April 12th.

@pacmaninbw Working, learning piano, and fixing my house. Been keeping busy with the panny.

@Malachi So, we'll be seeing more of you in the foreseeable future?

indubitably

1:49 PM
@DerKommissar Psychological Association of Northeastern New York?

I don't even know if that word means what I think it means

@Mast In the USA April first may have been the wrong day to post that. It's April fools day when many people play practical jokes.

@Mast Colloquial term for "COVID pandemic", something my girlfriend says lol

@pacmaninbw shrug
It happened to be that day.
I didn't even realize it was April 1st.
Did anyone think it was a joke?

I can't reply to my own message apparently, but it means more so what I thought it meant

1:50 PM
@Malachi I might still have that code around here somewhere.

@DerKommissar Are you a concert pianist yet? Learning an instrument is always good.

That would've been unfortunate.

@DerKommissar won't it be in the Data site somewhere

@Malachi You can, just manually insert the comment ID.

@pacmaninbw No, but I've passed the "beginner" level, have been working on a variety of pop and such songs

1:51 PM
@Mast Like this @Malachi

@Malachi Chat wasn't in the Data site, I had to scrape all the chat pages.
I had a script that walked every chat page and pulled the message into a SQL database so I could run queries

@Mast No.

I've been playing Horizon Zero Dawn lately too so you'll have to do way better to outpace me
And by "lately" I mean I bought it Monday night and have 7.4 hours already

I got hooked on Subnautica and No Man's Sky

@DerKommissar That's what I meant. In hindsight my explanation wasn't clear at all.

HZD is really fun so far. Definitely my type of RPG -- good, mysterious storyline, open-world with focused quests, and combat is well varied.
@Mast #ItBeLikeThatSometimes
Anyway someone should probably run to fill Mat and Vogel's shoes

@DerKommissar I might have to check that one out in the future. I have my hands full with Minecraft/Subnautica/NMS

I am trying to finish Subnautica so I can start Sub Zero for the first time at launch

I've been told they're comparable

@Malachi Ark has less cybernetics and less RPG, I think.

HZD feels like Breath of the Wild meets Dinosaurs minus Shrines.

2:00 PM
Ark is another one that I was trying to get into, but my personal Machine is old and can't keep up... I did a thing though and have a new one coming

Combat was a bit rough in Ark.

I've never played Ark but I'll say combat in HZD is pretty decent, occasional oddities / exploitability but not too much
I was able to water-dodge some sawtooth's, for example.

@Mast it's like Minecraft mixed with Dinosaurs... at least as far as I have gotten.... LOL which isn't very far.
I have been getting into Metal Melting lately so I have been sticking to a rough schedule for playing video games, I don't want to lose all my time to games

@Vogel612 Factorio held my interest for quite a while, but the repetitiveness of it wore off.
Same with Oxygen Not Included, RimWorld, etc.

you never got into the deep end of mods, I take it?

2:27 PM
I mean I had all the Bob's Mods at one point

ohh, that's the deep-ish end
Simon and me are both uploading videos to youtube for our respective playthroughs

he's doing pyblock and I'm doing seablock

What are those?

seablock is basically bob's and angels, but you can only get ores from a very slow and energy-intensive refinement process
pyblock is the whole of pyanodon's cranked up to eleven
both of them basically have the premise that you crashland on an ocean-planet and need to make all the land you build machines on yourself

2:30 PM
Ah, interesting
Landfill was one of my favorite mods

the whole idea of seablock is basically that you're constrained through energy and space instead of by defenses and logistics
and pyblock is similar, but ten times worse
It took Simon something like 30 hours to automate the first science pack

Dang
Usually takes me 4-5 hours to get science pack one automated lol
Because I spend a TON of time planning and trying to design fully-modular systems, so when I go from a 2x2 furnace to a 3x3 I can just drop it in

I have found my patterns for that and usually tear down my starting base when I get to a proper rail system

I build my base on the premise of a rail system.

that allows me to get red science initially automated in around an hour

2:34 PM
Usually I do a lab, assembler, and one miner and smelter for each iron and copper and hand-jam everything until I get a decent amount of automation

@DerKommissar have you looked into LTN?

Yeah but I'm not patient enough to figure it out

I'm so glad Simon used it for krastorio2 and seablock on the server we had as the room
that meant I could mess up a working system :D

Haha
I think my "base building" phase is mostly over now, I'm having more fun with adventure and exploration these-days.
I've been replaying Breath of the Wild (trying to get EVERY shrine), and now Horizon Zero Dawn as well, and Mass Effect (1-3 + Andromeda).
And Destiny 2, but I haven't played that in a bit

@Malachi I hadn't heard/seen that one, but mostly familiar with "I see, said the blind man to the deaf girl as he picked up his hammer and saw."
P.S. Monking

2:42 PM
I have talked to several of you about Factorio before.... I might have to have cave and finally try it.... maybe I will stream for a Bonus stream....
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I always thought it went, "I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he peed into the wind, it's all coming back to me now."
so when I saw all the other renditions I was a little confused

apparently there is a lack of regulation on such sayings/variations

does anyone do 3D printing? or the Metal Equivalent?

@Malachi I debated streaming HZD but I'm not good at it so I'll pass lol

if someone makes me a Code Review Logo I will make an Aluminum version of it and record the process
@DerKommissar that's why most people watch streamers... LOL

@Malachi Step file? How big?

I don't have a Printer.... never done the 3D print thing (yet)
let me grab a cup of coffee and my tape measure.

3:07 PM
@Malachi I've had a printer for about a year. When I find a model I like it gets printed.

@Mast I am thinking like 4 inches diameter by 2 inches thick?
if I do it in copper it will be heavy though.... maybe a smaller one.... idk? what does it cost you to print one?
@IvenBach my old QA Director was making all sorts of things for his house during the last year

An inch thick should be sufficient, shouldn't it?
Did I just pin that? Chat on mobile is awful...

LUL
@Mast I fixed it....
that was awkward though (unpinning)

3:22 PM
That's not my star on it either...

it's mine
I can't get chat to work on my Mobile device for some reason, I haven't for a long time

You starred your own message? Huh

That's because SE only ever half-builds things then dumps them

it won't sign in or something, keeps trying to open in browser or something iirc

Mobile chat has been broken since I've been here, so...what, 6 or 7 years at least?
I've been on CR for 5 years and 10 months, so yeah...quite some time

3:25 PM
