Somebody is casting a lot of LCC votes lately, without leaving comments and in situations of which I have my doubts.
Sure, they could use more context and this would improve the question, but the rules as-written don't disallow them.

@Vogel612 I assume Robert said something inappropriate?

@410_Gone that's what it looks like.

@Vogel612 But Robert didn't post that
Isn't holding him up as somehow un-suspendable the very epitome of elitism that many people hold as the reason they don't go near SO?

from what I can tell (and what I personally also do), mods (and CMs) leave quite some leeway on what people can say without being suspended around this change

12:09 PM
I have seen that myself

it's not going to be productive to moderate grey-area stuff that would be fine to moderate otherwise
because that will just result in more people grabbing pitchforks and throwing more gasoline on the fire

@AGirlHasNoName There's a lot of mud slinging going on by so many parties...

@Mast yea, but this and that are different

If the code is running but you feel there can be an improvement, then consider posting it on Code Review instead. It's of topic on here. — JvdV 46 secs ago

If I do something suspendable on any site, I should be suspended
and the same applies for any other mod

12:12 PM
@Vogel612 that's already happening. The witch hunt for the flag brigasde that is responible is forming

IMO this is a private matter that should be discussed between SE and Robert, not on MSE.
Especially not while he's suspended.
It's 7 days, not the end of the world.

@Mast it's not even clear that a CM suspended him, actually
it could have been one of the MSE mods.

@Vogel612 Somebody did.

@Mast Boils down to the general "entitlement" I mentioned when this mess began. The person asking feels owed something.

Don't think it really matters who.
Their problem.
@410_Gone Yea, that has been going around a bit lately.

12:14 PM
A lot of the SE users feel entitled to a lot of things these days, it seems.

@AGirlHasNoName yea, I saw gnat's post, but gnat is always like that.

true ^^

"You owe us an explanation!"

it's never going to happen. If SE releases flagging information on any significant number of flags to anyone I'll quit right then and there

@Vogel612 But he has support and it isn't the first post. I'm at the center of it and I am terrified it is going to escalate.

12:15 PM
I'm just glad we still have a platform without having to pay for it.
2

SE doesn't have to do anything for the witch hunt to escalate. People take matters into their own hands all the time.

@AGirlHasNoName Huh? Unless you're one of the people that flagged his comments, this isn't about you. If you are one of the people, I'd friendly reccomend you not to confirm it. Might just make some people mad without anything constructive getting done.

@AGirlHasNoName witch hunts should be quite easily justiciable with suspensions

Flags are anonymous. Keep it that way.

@AGirlHasNoName +32/-14 isn't really what I'd call "support"

12:17 PM
@Vogel612 Yup. Witch hunts are going against so many of the rules that it's suspension worthy to say the least.

it's very much not in SEs interest to allow any with hunts on their sites and if push comes to shove and the moderators that should deal with it don't, then SE most likely will

gahh
@FrédéricHamidi I agree the users that participate in these mobs are the core issue here. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/335375/…dfhwze 2 hours ago
@Vogel612 but it has been happening

It's one of the few things I'm still sure about. This isn't going to escalate as much as people think it will.
@AGirlHasNoName I've seen that comment, note who wrote a comment below it.

That post linked above targeted me specifically. It was later edited out but everyone has access to the edit history and many people saw the accusations before it was editted.
Since the user that wrote that comment has made accusations of flag abuse toward me directly
Many other people have as well.

You're not asking for additional moderator scrutiny. You are asking for things to be made public that are best kept private. It really comes down to whether or not you trust the mods. And, seeing as none of us trust SE anymore, so there is nobody to escalate to, if you don't trust the mods either, then there's even less point in asking for this. You would have no reason to believe anything they say. So I just can't see any point to asking for data you wouldn't believe anyway. — terdon 3 hours ago

12:21 PM
On top of that there are probably hundreds of comments alluding to flag brigades
It already is a witch hunt
@Mast yes there are many level-headed people. Your comment was a good rational response as well. The pitchfork wielders are the ones I'm referring to.

One more VTC please.

I know that the flag queue on MSE is extremely full and I know that the appointed mods have decided to abstain from dealing with most of the mess around the CoC to not get caught between the fronts

@410_Gone big reason why I've kept off of MSE for the most part

@Mast For me I can normally agree with you, but this subject is very personal to me and I react very emotionally to it at times.
Yeah I shoulda stayed away too.
But too many good voices were staying away. So only the ugly ones got to speak.

12:40 PM
FWIW it feels incredibly complicated to handle the flags on CR around this that aren't "no need to think at all"
I'm weirdly glad that we're getting flags around this on CR, though

@Vogel612 I was about to comment on that, yea.
Haven't seen much flag-worthy things going on out of the ordinary.
Last I check we were missing the storm.
Trolls go elsewhere, nobody has been complaining.
We lost a mod and a user, perhaps a couple more users, but nothing major going on right?

@410_Gone ughh stay out of jail. you are more effective as a free person.

But it is what it is. I have no regrets.
@AGirlHasNoName Police dropped the changes (because of the situation) so at this point it's a civil matter and I'll get 30 days, max.

@410_Gone ohh word. Then it was totally worth it.

But, in order for that to happen they have to prove that the beating was unwarranted, and to do that he has to repeat what he said in open court...I don't think he'll do that.
@AGirlHasNoName We'll see. They're trying to figure out how to hear the case, I know every civil and criminal judge in the area, they're all friends of mine.

@410_Gone If the case becomes civil, it is about money and not jail time. Are you sure the police dropped the A&B because it is a felony. If they case actually goes to court there isn't a lot knowing the judges can do for you because it is a trial by your peers.

If you know all the judges in the area, the attorneys will move it to a different venue.
@410_Gone ^^

@pacmaninbw Yeah. They dropped A/B, left "Disorderly Conduct" on the table, but it's contingent on the outcome of the civil suit (that's where the jail time comes in). Because I know every judge personally, they're still establishing how it should be heard. (What court, what district, etc.)

@410_Gone Hope you got a decent trial lawyer.

1:51 PM
@Duga Rolled back.
Welcome @thesecret

@pacmaninbw Basically: police are refusing to deal with it, so they're attaching it to the civil suit. The civil suit can't be heard in Michigan, so that further complicates matters because I know every judge in my county and the neighboring ones. (For this reason.) And, the guy might be dropping it because both lawyers advised him the only way he is going to win is to repeat the conversation that happened, because there are no security cameras. ;)

@410_Gone Could he try lying his way out of it?

@Mast I have 6 witnesses on my side, so not likely.

lol

1:53 PM
Good news about U.S. civil suits is it is not about "reasonable doubt", it's about a preponderance of evidence. He has to have more evidence it was an unwarranted whooping than I have evidence that it was warranted.

They might smack you on the fingers a bit then, but I don't expect anything serious.
If even that.

I'm getting a $250 fine for the disorderly regardless.

Welcome anytime, of-course.

@Mast I donate more than that to charity monthly. /shrug

@410_Gone That's you, what if this happened to someone less fortunate?

1:58 PM
@Mast Agreed. It's unfortunate, but it's the privilege of being not poor. :/

@Mast "Disorderly" is a misdemeanor no long term jail sentence often applied to drunks. A criminal trial requires 12 peers in the US, a Civil Suit can be much less than that. There is no Guilty in a Civil Suit, but there can be hundreds of thousands of dollars involved.
The loser in a Civil suit ends up paying both sides lawyers.

Are education level and job (or career) satisfaction related?

What are the pros and cons of remote work?

Are people in tech overworked? Specifically who, and how much?

Apr 9 at 13:40, by Feeds
Julia Silge on April 09, 2019

Python, the fastest-growing major programming language, has risen in the ranks of programming languages in our survey yet again, edging out Java this year and standing as the second most loved language (behind Rust).

Over half of respondents had written their first line of code by the time they were sixteen, although this experience varies by country and by gender.

We asked respondents to think about the last time they solved coding problems with and without our site. The data indicates that Stack Overflow saves a developer 30 to 90 minutes of time per week! …

As Principal Web Developer at Stack Overflow and a long time Tech Lead, I learnt that accurate estimates were essential in order for a company to be healthy and productive. Over the years I have spent a good deal of time developing my theories for why estimates and breakdowns are so important, and crafting my own methodology for how best to go about doing them.

Below, I attempt to distill the lessons I’ve learned so that others can experiment with and improve upon my techniques. Now, I should be clear, the advice below is what works for me. I’m sure there are different approaches that might work better for others. Feel free to share your favorite approach in the comments. …

I originally asked this question but it's closed now so I can't add an answer. I came across the following chart in "Best Kept Secrets of Peer Code Review" page 123 from a study at IBM. Phase - Cost to fix Requirements - $0 Design - $45 Development - $275 QA/Test - $33,000 Customer - $141,000 — Matt McCormick 37 secs ago

That works if you know you only EVER want to check for True. You may however decide later to find the other path, in which case substituting True for a variable would instantly make this more flexible. I like explicit for this reason in this scenario for code review later. — eatmeimadanish 52 secs ago

Q: Python 3 code to generate simple crossword puzzles from a list of words/anagrams

Michael AThis code takes a list of words that all (pairwise) share at least one letter, e.g. words = ["forget", "fret", "for", "tort", "forge", "fore", "frog", "fort", "forte", "ogre"] and creates what I'm calling a "sparse crossword" puzzle that looks like this. -------FORT ----------O ------F-FOR --...

madpropsI've been creating some mappings to control my linux system with my Launchkey midi controller. It works pretty well. Q: Create a structuringselement in the form of a line with a certain degree and length

HJA24Within Matlab there exist a function to create a structuringselement in the form of a line. if you post on Code Review please read the help center pages like How do I ask a good question? - in its current form this post would be considered off-topic because there is little context about what the code does and how the function is used, plus the title is about CR goals instead of describing what the code does — Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ 29 secs ago
