Q: jQuery to JavaScript

Jackson JacobFirstly I would like to apologise if this is off topic. I am unsure if it is, as the code written works fine. Just wondering how I might convert this to JavaScript from JQuery? What have you tried? SO isn't really intended as a "do it for me" site. What HTML/ CSS do you have now and in what way is it not working? If you're looking for "the best" way, SO isn't the place to ask - there's a separate site for code reviewDACrosby 15 secs ago
@DACrosby please see a guide to CR for SO users. Code Review requires code that's already implemented, and working as intended. — Mat's Mug 9 secs ago

I'm going to reinstall Windows in a few minutes.
Anyone have any final words to say to me?

Yes.
ಠ_ಠ

What?

12:19 AM
Don't.

Why not?

What other OS do you have?

None.

What are you using to type this?

I need Office for school, and Google docs doesn't cut it.
IceDragon on Windows 10.
Oh, and I need VS and C# for my open source stuff.
I really should go back to Windows 9.

12:20 AM
So you already have Windows.

@Hosch250 Choose linux

Or mac.

@Quill I just told you why I can't.

@Hosch250 you can install both operating systems, anyway, it's best to be familiar with both

@Hosch250 there never was a Windows 9

@AlienHerbNite Thank you for your username.

In fact, I used Macs for years, and they are getting worse by the release (or at least, iWorks and the photo app are.

and ^^^^
@Hosch250 why would you use those
I use TextWrangler for friggin essays.

12:22 AM
@Mat'sMug It was the magic, bug-free, perfectly customizable OS that only the select few got access to ;)

And Office runs on Mac.

uh-huh

@Hosch250 You mean Linux?

Yeah, I know, but I won't be able to finish my Rubberduck Source Control on a Mac.

hmmph

12:22 AM
And I can't afford it anyway.

@EasterlyIrk lol nope

@EasterlyIrk Nah, Linux is buggy.

So Linux+Mac-Windows?

12:23 AM
In fact, it has more security holes than Windows, just fewer attacks.
And attacks are rapidly rising because of all the Linux servers that can be breached to the tune of millions of dollars.

@EasterlyIrk For some values of "run".

Q: ECMA6 Budget Calculator

Alpha G33kI never get to use ECMA6 in production/work so I am hoping you all can help me write better code by reviewing my finished sample: (function() { 'use strict'; class BudgCalc { constructor(personFullName, yearlyAfterTaxIncome) { this.name = personFullName; ...

I'm seriously considering going back to Windows 8.1--oh wait, I canceled my 8.1 license by upgrading to 10.

12:38 AM
what's wrong with Win10?
@Duga lol

It is annoyingly unstable compared to 8.1.

@Mat'sMug haha, nice joke

Nothing big, just little things here and there.

...I've no issue with Win10.. what am I doing wrong?

The File Explorer is the biggest culprit, with periodic crashes.
I don't know, maybe I messed my registry up or picked up a virus.

12:40 AM
besides the privacy concerns
@Hosch250 maybe your hardware's old? is it?

I've also had problems with Defender spontaneously turning itself off and saying I had another AV on my system.
@Quill Well, I bought it 3.5 years ago, and it was one of the last ones available...

oh, that's not too bad

I don't think that counts as old.

Hey @Mat'sMug can you mods remove users, or is that a CM/staff thing?

IIRC mods can do this
mergers are a CM thing

I thought they could only suspend

also cross-site user-nukes are also staff things

@Quill Are you plotting to remove me?

@Hosch250 No. Of course not
A user was removed and I lost some rep

12:43 AM
Did I forget to use the sarcasm font?
@Quill Huh, I did too, at 11:54.

I thought that was a taboo thing to physically delete a user, and have the reputation butterfly effects ripple across the stack exchange chasm

I've had that happen a few times recently.

@Quill only for really really big users

A user being removed is probably something that has to be kept private by the moderators, but I was just wondering whether you guys had a hand in that

12:45 AM
Normal users can request that they be removed.

also IIUC spammer accounts are regularly nuked by mods on SO

@Quill I don't think I've ever nuked anyone you know :)

In other words, you can nuke people.

and with that, I'm not confirming nor refuting the existence of a hypothetical nuke button which may or may not exist.

Ah, that is classified?

12:46 AM
Is it mod-only?

I invoke the Government in the Sunshine law.

Those damn booleans failing isNaN() lol

wait, a number can be not _quite_ NaN??

I don't understand the need for this: if (n === true || n === false)
oh nevermind, duck-typed

PhrancisI'm learning some JavaScript and ran into a quirk and was wondering if anyone knew a way to override this behavior. Essentially, It's just me remaking a previous project with it since I find that to be a great way to pick up new things. The two relevant files: https://gist.github.com/Javaliant/29ca389742c230f88229 are the two relevant files.
The relevant functions are on line 32 in index.js and 39 on app.html

> $('#messages').append($('<li> Registered Users: ').text(list));
that works?

So, I think the issue is that this line socket.emit('user list', getUserList(), username); isn't getting through.

3:57 AM
Well that doesn't since it doesn't even seem like the function gets reached, I put the console.log there to test and it never gets printed.

If you have a specific question regarding a specific problem this is the place to ask it. Asking what is essentially, "How's it look?" does not fit that bill. The codereview site is far better matched for that task. — WhozCraig 26 secs ago

@paddy "belongs on Code Review" is not a valid on-topic reason. Use the "not a specific question" close reason in future instead. — Quill 17 secs ago

does it reach isValidUser?

Yes, all that is fine.
Everything else, I'm fairly certain works. I'm wondering if it's something about me using emit right after an emit that causes a redirect?

can you emit three parameters?
oh
I think it's because you haven't really declared users yet
functions that aren't vars can be accessed before their definition, but vars can't
so in getUserList when it tries to get an undefined list, it probably throws an error
try declaring the io.on after the function declarations down the bottom

That's not it either.

there's a bunch of reasons why post scores are low, and most of them sound like small things, but when combined together they make one big thing

ok, I was just curious as I've been a bit more often on the site recently... thanks :)

no problem :)

@bilbo_pingouin You got 7 upvotes on your first question. Do you consider that conservative upvoting?

@200_success no my question was well received to some extend... but the two answers got only one upvote apart from mine
(actually it was more than I'd hoped for for my question :))
But that question: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/122917/… got 4 answers and they share 5 upvotes, two of which are on the question itself...
and those answers do not look so bad to me. But since I am not used to the place, I considered asking :)

Q: Java NIO server Selector loop

bot_botI have a server that uses Java NIO in non-blocking mode. Right now I'm using a single thread for the selector, and four worker threads to process the bytes after the selector reads them in. I'm going to switch to a thread pool soon enough. Anyway, that's not why I'm here. Take a look at the co...

For all future readers: Look at the Answer from Lutz Horn for a Pythonic solution. My Answer only aims at answering the question without giving code advice (which should be done at Code Review SE ;). — Mailerdaimon just now

I can see the code review with both "Requested" and "Closed" status in CodeLens indicator, so I don't think status will matter the behavior. Try refresh CodeLens Indicator. And make sure the Code Request work item is linked to the code, and you have permissions to open linked work items. — Cece - MSFT 13 secs ago

Q: Easy Game of Life project

TreckI've developed easy Game of Life project. I'd highly appreciate any feedback and possibilities to improve my code, both in efficiency and style. It works on list and it's terminal program. I decided not to show you interfaces, it's waste of space, you can figure them out. Cell.java public class...

So, Excel worksheets sheets have a codename (really a global object reference). But, do they call it that? noooo. Worksheets have a "Name" property (user-facing) and a "(Name)" property (codename).
Why, VBA, just why.

@Kaz it doesn't excel at being a great language to work with

@Pimgd he removed the title, if the code is broken the code is broken
Removing the titlle doesn't automatically make the code not broken
