@Duga Thought I recognized that name.

interesting. start handling a flag at 00:00Z minus a few minutes, clear the flag at 00:02Z, you get a messed-up summary showing 0 flags, average handling time N/A, and a mod that handled 1 flag. @rolfl

@Phrancis thanks!

@Mat'sMug heh.... way to go, breaking things, now, why did it take you that long to handle the flag?

I don't even know how long it took!
I was busy with the kids
and then I saw the flag on my phone

14 minutes ;-)

12:05 AM
thought oh crap it's too complicated for phone handling

All you had to do was delete the answer, right?
Too complicated?
Mods these days .... sheesh

I like understanding why I'm doing stuff like nuking answers -before- I do that

That's right, mods need to read ;-)

I thought my message was pretty clear.... link and all ;-)

Hey look people have stars again

Hmmm... I am not even half-way to marshall... I need to up my pace.
Oh, I saw activity from ChrisWue recently.... yee-haa

ChrisWho?

12:11 AM
penny drops

Jerry Coffin was also active recently

Down to three lines, and -1 citations left.
DONE!

WOOHOO!
what are we celebrating again?

Didn't I just figure out the ingredients to NK's drug that can cure AIDS because they didn't use two-factor authentication, or something?

well, now we can charge $1 for it now, force them out of the market
oh lol
So
I'm watching TV, and there's this commercial for antivirus software called PCMatic

Just wrote a page on that too.
Not PCMatic, though.

and their claim to fame is that "they're made in the USA"
The person in the commercial appears to know nothing about malware in the first place

12:37 AM
USA made is the best.

they referred to all malware as a whole as "originating in russia"

But, Symantec is USA made too.

and knowwhere else

Kaspersky is Russian, and they are at the top too.

@EthanBierlein meh, missing "with pride"

12:38 AM
LOL, a lot comes through Russian servers., but definitely not all.
Just, don't buy them. I've never heard of them, and that means they are a nobody, and nobodies aren't good enough.

And here you go, look at this: bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/523305/…
the verdict? absolute shit

I told you not to buy it.

I didn't

I didn't think you did.

I've just been reading online reviews
Like the one I just linked

@kdopen Safeways rat poison, however, isn't sold in the baby food isle with and advertised with a little teddy bear claiming to provide all the necessary nutrients your baby needs. Caution is required at GitHub. — Abhi Beckert 24 mins ago

I was looking for an edit button on that forum post so I could fix some typos.

lol
Shall we take a look at what PCMatic does that it shouldn't?

There

That's it?

12:53 AM
@EthanBierlein does it rearrange the circuits on the SSD? Doesn't make sense indeed

I was expecting a couple fork bombs too.

@Hosch250 Just go look at the list at the bottom of this page: pcmatic.com
Just don't click any download buttons

You missed some.

mm, like?

> Fixes software vulnerabilities

12:54 AM
@EthanBierlein Does it remove itself as a result?

lol if only

> Optimizes broadband

ooh
nope nope nope nope nope

> Accelerates downloads in FF and IE
LOL, what B*.
LOL, what if they read this :)

12:56 AM
@Hosch250 But not in Google Chrnull?

Google what?

@Phrancis Apparently not. Probably developed by Google on the sly to get people to use Chromebooks.
I suppose they figure if the trash Windows hard enough...

@Hosch250 That, or Google specifically sandboxes that app from accessing it?

Both.

@EthanBierlein lol

12:58 AM
(I'm not serious about Google developing it, JTLYK.)

Okay, now look at this
They're claiming that security software made in other countries are "bad"

What the ...wat?

LOL.

And they claim that that software, software like kapersky, or norton antivirus, are "inferior" to PCMatic.

But, Norton is made in the US!

1:02 AM
Exactly
They're making false claims

They have a top-secret lab with all sorts of viruses locked in a super-vault.

Which is punishable by law
US law

And only the workers know where it is.
@EthanBierlein Let's start a class-action lawsuit.

Agreed

I'm looking for software lawyers.

1:03 AM
What's with all the tanks and solders and shit. I guess PCMatic is more patriotic too? Or are rednecks from Texas (and other places) really that stupid?

Some are, some aren't.
And rednecks are not stupider than the liberal liberals, I have to say.
You see, there is a median, and the farther you get on either side, the stupider you get.
</politics>

Yeah I agree. But, yes, </politics>

On a different note, Office 2016 was released today.

Got enough of that on damn Facebook already XD

Hmm
I could drop an email to our "friendly" US government about this

1:06 AM
@Hosch250 How broken good is it??

The preview was very stable.
Excel has the most changes, it sounds like.
Anyone use Angular or Node JS?

UX changes or backend changes mostly?

Or Rails?

@Hosch250 yes, both
Por qué?

They have chatrooms on GitHub.

1:08 AM
We use Angular for Cardshifter web client. But I don't know much about it myself

It seems I broke every test in Roslyn with my simple PR.

I don't think that's the intended result

I still can't build the bloody thing, and the web build doesn't give any details.

Or maybe it is

No, I didn't intend to do it.

1:11 AM
No, maybe they did?
Or maybe XY Problem

Well, maybe, but my two tests failed too.
You can see for yourself here: github.com/dotnet/roslyn/pull/5385

I have no idea who, or where I can submit a form, or something

Have they provided documentation on making PRs?

Oh wow, I just got a comment on it!
> Can one of the admins approve this PR test or whitelist this user?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because this type of question belongs on codereview.stackexchange.comCaptain Obvlious 55 secs ago

It sounds like they are considering merging it!

@Duga STAHP

Grr, I cannot find a place to file a complaint about false advertising

Oh nice Ethan got it
@EthanBierlein BBB
Better Business Bureau

It is one size smaller than a BB.

well nevermind then

> PC Matic commercials are complete lies. Damaged 2 of my computers.
> Commercials state this product is written and supported in the U.S. when I called for support I reached a company called **** which is in India.
> The call was from a *** area code stating there were errors on my computer and that they were contracted by Microsoft to monitor licensed software.
> A lady with a heavy Indian accent named ***** stated that my computer was giving numerous errors.

That crew phone me more often than my parents do

Funny the file on the BBB is in Iowa, while the video @EthanBierlein posted shows a star in Florida

Always amusing to hear from "Microsoft support", given that there hasn't been a windows-encumbered computer in my home since the 20th century

1:25 AM
Anyways, that product/company is apparently bunk, and apparently they also don't respond to BBB complaints

Well f*k them

> 2nd or 3rd time taking money from my paypal account unauthorized.

I'm gonna send a forkbomb their way
every day
for any amount of years

Introduce them to Java futures

@Phrancis They respond. They said they stand behind their adverts.

1:26 AM
which are false
in every frickin' way

Just don't lose sleep over it.

True.
Eh, anyone got something more fun to talk about?

I'm gonna try and find PCMatic on twitter and just kill them
anyways
I'm done ranting

I do.
I was told by an MS employee that using the generator is mandatory.
So, I won't be writing those classes out manually.
They said they have to use it to make it easy to add new classes.
Nodes in the XML file, that is.

What's the generator? (sorry I only know about the song by that name, and actual generators)

1:30 AM
It is a code generator that reads an XML files and pumps out copy/pasta code.
VB is in the RedNodes/GreenNodes folders here: github.com/dotnet/roslyn/tree/master/src/Tools/Source/…

I thought we were back to roslyn ;)

But... why?

(Other files as well, but those were the specific ones.)
@itsbruce (;

@Phrancis Because their libraries lack decent parsing

        If childrenCount <> 1 Then
            _writer.WriteLine("            Select case i")

            For i = 0 To childrenCount - 1
                _writer.WriteLine("                Case {0}", i)
                _writer.WriteLine("                    Return Me.{0}", ChildVarName(children(i)))
            Next

1:32 AM
Because they say they want to just have all the definitions in the XML file, and everything else buried in partially hard-coded strings, partially derived from the XML nodes.

Wow this whole thing is stuff like that... wow

Yeah, can you imagine the trouble I had finding that, much less editing it?

As code smells go, that's like the thing the Scandiwegians do where they bury a rotting shark for months, then dig it up again and eat it

LOL, @SimonForsberg?

Next time someone says crap about dynamic SQL, I'm sending them a link to those files

1:36 AM
And they are just, just, shudder
R# was complaining left and right about the code in there.

LOL

In the VB one, I found empty methods, If True blocks....

lel
do they actually review code changes in PRs?
If they did, things like that wouldn't get in.

In C#, they were using for instead of foreach (this is only called at Roslyn compile time, so no big deal about performance), ...

Is there any MS Access code there? I'd be curious if they actually added dynamic SQL in their dynamically generated crap
That would be the Inception of escape characters

1:38 AM
I'm scared to even clean the thing up.

I hate animated gifs in chat lol

@Mat'sMug Bet she'd love that

Oh.

Yep, I busted a bunch of tests :(

Roslyn, again.
Sorry.

I'm having a weird feeling... wrote some code on Saturday... coming back to it now... I don't remember what problem I was trying to solve

let's play a game

oh no let's don't

Let's play FizzBuzz in chat.
We each take turns doing a number.

@JeroenVannevel i sense a non-saw person

1:45 AM
We can see how fast we can do it.

No

hides

That's my queue to leave. Because someone has a booty call through Tinder to get to.
Hint: it's me

@JeroenVannevel Do you mean "cue"?

I would say I'm humblebragging, but I'm not. I'm full on bragmode

Q: Java Max-Stack implementation to return maximum value in the stack

here4learnI have written the below program to write a Java stack implementation, I have added a method which returns the maximum value in the stack, The implementation for this is based on max heap sort, I have little doubt on the time complexity analysis. public class Stack { int top = -1; int[]...

why -1. Please let me know what's wrong with this question. — here4learn 7 mins ago

that was me
I accidentally hit "down" and didn't realize it

I wonder - if they were working on Roslyn generator I just linked: workplace.stackexchange.com/q/54862

@EthanBierlein feel free to reassure poor confused OP ;-)

1:49 AM
^^

@EthanBierlein accidentally hit "close", too? ;-)
2

I hit close before I edited it
reason: "unclear"
Retracted now

saw that

The all-seeing eye mug
oh wow, I just realized I was trying to drink from an un-opened soda can
Thanks @Phrancis :-)

@EthanBierlein Perhaps you need some sleep?

1:53 AM
^
@EthanBierlein saw that

I think we are all feeling really silly right now.

Out of curiosity, this is new to me int top = -1; in that latest question

gosh

I've seen the number -1 used in other code before
Any particular reason for it, as opposed to say -2 or -42

I have, no idea
In Python -1 would be the index of the last element in a list
but I don't think that works in Java

1:57 AM
I'd go with "non-zero invalid value defaults are usually set to -1, by unwritten convention"
hence, -42 would break POLS

POLS?

Principle Of Least Surprise

-_-"

-1 is surprising, but less so than -42

Well, I think -42 is still a little less surprising than ' -- - '

1:58 AM
Fair enough, makes sense with that in mind. I was just wondering if I had missed out on some unwritten magical convention (which apparently I have)

@EthanBierlein that looks like a validation fail

Well, you can ask @Phrancis about it for that story. ;-)

@Mat'sMug Gee uthink? ;)
