@QPaysTaxes please just stop now, its all over

I'll be asleep by the (hopefully) but please don't make it more complicated than it already is..
So at the end of the day we have a huge bunch of users somewhere between scared and disgruntled because we regulars and ROs couldn't be bothered to educate new users

We all know what we need to do now, lets just go from here
It will be interesting to see new users here and see what they have to say about code review

Question... do we use the post Mast wrote as a semi-official post-mortems place?

Fresh ideas are always welcomed

And can we get the rules into the room description as a link to the meta faq post?

Q: Register/Login and authentication through terminal

NickA registration and login program I made in python that runs through the terminal. I am new to programming so I didn't have any actual use for this, I simply made it for practice. If anyone could give me tips on minimizing code and making things shorter, and also point out any bad programming prac...

Q: Re factoring Duplicated For Loop in PHP Method

Kyle AdamsDisclaimer: I understand the code may not work 100%, as I see issues already, but the core thing I am looking for help with is moving the duplicated for loop out of the function and into its own, while still keeping the general flow. So I have a method that, for does what I want it to do, it sea...

Q: Python: Bayesian monophyly testing from MrBayes and BEAST posterior tree samples

ColomboI wrote script that test monophyly by computing Bayes Factor on sample of tree from Bayesian MCMC analysis from MrBayes and BEAST posterior tree sample files. This is natural way how I write code, but I am looking for improvement. I am trying to read some theoretical articles and other code, but ...

A: How much idle chatter do we tolerate in The 2nd Monitor?

rolflThis seems to be about the right place to post a response to what happened in the chat room today, and in the past 6 weeks or so. Since various names have come up, and people have posted here too, I won't make it all anonymous, but will use concrete examples instead. I also want to stress that ...

@Mehrad You missed the chaos this morning about what's on and off-topic in The 2nd Monitor.

Q: text justification--code challenge

Fihop Given an array of words and a length L, format the text such that each line has exactly L characters and is fully (left and right) justified. You should pack your words in a greedy approach; that is, pack as many words as you can in each line. Pad extra spaces ' ' when necessary so ...

@EthanBierlein I can see @Quill said don't make it personal and that shouts off-topic...
damn... I missed the hot topic morning

@Mehrad That's probably... a good thing.

Nobody uses Vimperator here by any chance?
@mjolka might have if he was around. He is a Vim fan club member :) and a mac guy

What are your values in a, b, x, y, also, in I'd add () to make things a bit clearer: a>= x && a <= (x + videoScale). It's a personal choice thing, but if it came to me in a code review you'd be adding the ()'s ;-) — John3136 49 secs ago

Hey @Hosch250, hey @spyr03

Hey, I'm just lurking

Hi.

Man... I gonna man up and learn some serious Python syntax

@Mehrad I'm not sure what's so hard about Python's syntax.

11:19 PM
@EthanBierlein Nothing really. it just need some leg work to remember the basics :P Doing some Sage atm and forgetting more Python than Fourier transformation
@SirPython that is one hell of a three pager answer
@QPaysTaxes quick answer. maybe :)

@QPaysTaxes No. I don't think so. It does reek of hypothetical code though...

I would say it isn't that great of a question.

Thanks santas.

@rolfl Thanks for the explanation.
I can easily see your point from watching the chat counter go up so fast last night.

Hello @NiallC.
@QPaysTaxes Well, you can come on over to The Nth... Maybe?

A: How much idle chatter do we tolerate in The 2nd Monitor?

QuillBefore you read ... Personally, I follow @TimPost's ideology: My 'razor' for such things (well, actually most things) "When in doubt, don't." I would even say I've deleted or stopped writing what I was going to post more times than I've actually posted. As @rolfl pointed out, I've been of...

@Quill You're an idle chatter advocate of the day Quill :)

Q: Improving the execution time of this python code

LynobI have a csv 5+ million rows I want to filter it. with open("test1.csv") as csv_file: writer =csv.writer(outputfile, delimiter=',') for row in csv.reader(csv_file, delimiter=','): row = [int(x) for x in row] for i in range (1,11): if add_i (row) == True: ...

@CaptainObvious I don't think it includes all the code

@Quill Close as hypothetical or stub code?

> I have many functions, the simplest one is add_i
I can't see add_i

Yup. VTC'ed as stub code/hypothetical code.

@Lynob, for future reference, databases are not solely for websites and can be used locally — Quill 7 secs ago

Oh, sorry. Did I accidentally ping you again?
Yup.
