This is good too: winbeta.org/news/…
Microsoft should post that on their Twitter.
But, the anti-Semitic people might throw a fit.

Q: Program crashes while freeing dynamically allocated memory

user66730I'm representing a graph using an adjacency list here. Here is the code: // A program to check the reachability between two nodes within a specified number of steps using an adjacency list /***************************************************************************/ #include <iostream> #include <

@mjolka Remember when we were discussing RichTextBlockOverflow?

@Hosch250 yes

I just looked into that, and it will almost work.
However, because I allow different font sizes, it will not work.
Some of the text will be pushed off the screen.
I think I will need to manually figure out the layout.

@Hosch250 ah, that's so frustrating when something is almost but not quite a solution

10:09 PM
Yes.
What I have is a Page that is being displayed in a Frame in another Page
The first Pages layout is one column currently, but I would like it to dynamically resize into two columns for display.
If I could do that in the Frame, that would be optimal, but I think I will need to adjust the layout.
However, because I need to re-write most of the tutorials, I might as well set the layout too.
This will not be optimal for updates, though.

yeah, that sounds like a real pain for updates
@Hosch250 have you seen this post? stackoverflow.com/questions/10162125/…

No.
I was looking everywhere.
Will read.

Q: Converting byte to binary function

GenisMy implementation of binary to bits converting function as follows: #include <stdio.h> #include <limits.h> unsigned char *return_byte (unsigned char source) { static unsigned char byte[CHAR_BIT]; unsigned char *p = byte, i; for(i = 0; i < CHAR_BIT; i++) p[i] = '0' + ((source &

Q: Gas cost calculator beginner

RobDelI am refreshing my university knowledge on C++ due to a job interview and I am trying to understand everything in depth. Is there any reason for me to use pointers and dynamic memory features of C++ in this example ? It's not that clear to me when should I use these features. #include <iostream>

@CaptainObvious using namespace std;

Morning peeps

@Phrancis write a bot that checks new questions for using namespace std;, post generic answer, gain all the rep
morning @Mehrad

@Mehrad Morning!

@mjolka not that it's a priority but I had an idea in mind for a bot to be used here.
Do you guys know or can refer me to somewhere to get it started?
Not sure if I need a certain amount of reps or even being a mod or something

10:37 PM

WOW... did we have an API ?!! and I didn't know about it :))) Cheers @mjolka

np :)

I knew we had one, but never checked it out.

Q: Efficient Static Compile Time Directed Graph

GabrielDuring my research in Rigid Body Dynamics, (where Contact Graphs are used to solve the contact problem) I came across the question if it is possible to define at compile time a directed graph (class) where each Node has a NodaDataType and each Edge has a EdgeDataType. The graph should have the ...

Uh oh, I have a problem.

@Mehrad You don't need to be a mod.
@MannyMeng What's up?

Um, I exceeded the character limit for my question...
Too much code...
Should I break it up into two?

Yes.
Or maybe even more.

11:04 PM
Ok...

the more i read about async/await, the more i realise i don't understand it

It is essentially computer-handled multithreading, I think.
And therefore, it does not not consecutively with the other code in the method.
Once that point is hit, it runs in a new thread, and the code below it starts running immediately.
I use it a few times in my app.

@Hosch250 but then i read things like this "The async and await keywords don't cause additional threads to be created. Async methods don't require multithreading because an async method doesn't run on its own thread. The method runs on the current synchronization context and uses time on the thread only when the method is active." msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh191443.aspx#BKMK_Threads

Oh, cool.
So it just waits until there is no other work being done, and then runs?

afaict yes but i need to read a lot more

Guess my source(s) was/were wrong.

My rep is a palindrome again! :D

Q: Simple Chess Game, Part 1: The Board

Manny MengI am currently creating a chess game, and have so far done the board. The board is pretty much a two-dimensional array, where Pieces are stored in their positions. For example, board[0][0] will be the position A1, which at the beginning of the game, is a White Rook. The board has some useful me...

Q: Simple Chess Game, Part 2: The Pieces

Manny MengAs I was writing my first part of my Chess question, I realised that I couldn't fit all my code into one question (I exceeded the character limit), so I will continue here. The pieces all share the same structure, and I had to have a way of storing them together, so I created the Piece interface...

@CaptainObvious That's what I just posted.
Yay! I have exactly 2015 reputation!
(And it's the year 2015)

You'd have 2,200, but I DVLR'ed on your post.
I'm leaving in a sec, so I won't write an answer.
But, don't use so many comments.

Q: Find the Biggest Traveler

chavaThis is from one of those online test sites, so the result had to be contained in a single class. The problem was stated as follows: Your java method will be given a 2-D array trip[n][2] of strings, representing a travel log for a group of people. For each 'n', trip[n][0] is the name of...

Q: query using cross join or inner join

TanPlease consider the following three tables that I am playing with in the image below: I want to come up with a SQL Query which shows first_name, last_name, and the total amount of all orders for customer_id 12345 Here is what I have come up with: SELECT C.first_name , C.last_name, SUM...

@CaptainObvious CROSS JOIN ORLY?

YA RLY

NO WAI?

OIC

?

> Chances are, if you think you need a cross join, you don't need a cross join.

@Phrancis Not always true...

No, just most of the time :)

True.

Anyone here with some background on the SE data explorer? :)

11:40 PM
I have pretty decent background on it

awesome!
Any idea how I can see the amount of upvotes/downvotes an answer gets

You can't (by design)

Yeah, get some rep.

its score field only takes the sum, right?

Yes the score only shows total. Only mods/SE staff can see # of upvotes and downvotes

11:41 PM
Then, just click the score, and it shows you.
Programmatically, I'm not sure.

@Hosch250 how you mean?
@Phrancis and what does the Votes table hold
 2 - UpMod - the post was moderated up. That's good.
3 - DownMod - the post was moderated down. That's bad.
that's not related to upvotes/downvotes?

Try this:
select * from VoteTypes
@DJanssens Actually hold on, forgive me I told you wrong

It still confuses me
Upmod and downmod sounds like upvotes and downvotes

You can see upvotes and downvotes. UpMod and DownMod are indeed, that
You just can't see who cast the votes

that sounds reasonable :)
let me double check it

11:49 PM
select top 30 *
from Votes
inner join Posts
  on Votes.PostId = Posts.Id
order by Posts.Id desc
Oh sweet, SEDE just refreshed a little bit ago

cool

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

I'm just terrible at creating queries :D

Anything specific you're looking to find out?
Or just tinkering around for fun?

I have a query to perform for an analysis. I believe I'm almost there :D
